A Study On The Decrease Lambing Interval Of Karacabey Merino Sheep Under Semi-Intensive Conditions, E. Seval Batmaz, Hasan Başpinar

In this study, it is aimed to decrease lambing interval of Karacabey Merino sheep. For this reason,in June and March, sheep were mated in the interval of 8 month. Fertility traits such as oestrus, pregnancy, parturition, lambing rate and that of twinning and litter size were 99.35, 90.25, 88.96, 1327.01, 52.55 % and 1.54 respectively in June. The values of same fertility traits were 95.17, 82.75, 78.62, 105.51, 34.21 % and 1.34 respectively in March. In this study, the kinetic, structural and functional changes of the ventriculus in dogs with myocardial infarction introduced experimentally were examined using M-Mode and two dimensional (2-D) echocardiography. 21 healthy, mixed-breed dogs of both genders (16 females and 5 males) and of various ages were used in this study. This study was caried out to determine the effects of weighing, after 0 or 18 hours of starvation period of chicks and at intervals of 1 or 2 week or at the end of starter and finisher period on the live weight and feed convertion rate of broilers. In conclusion, weighing at intervals 2 weeks of broilers which fed continously to the slaughter resulted the greatest live weight and also feed convertion rate.

A study was carried out on morphology and seasonal distribution of myiasis flies in Elazığ and its districts (Sivrice, Kovancılar, Baskil and Salkaya) in 1994-1995. Putrified meat, liver and spleen pieces were used as baits to attract and congregate myiasis flies. In addition the baits were treated with Golden Malrin to kill the attracted flies for collection. Thus a total of 10440 myiasis flies were collected from the study sites. This investigation was carried out to observe the effects of single dose of cyclophosphamide on blood cells and whether these could be prevented by mesna or not. In this study, 24 albino male guinea pigs weighing 250-300 g were equally diveded into 4 groups. This research was conducted to determine the effect of different feeds on the growth rate of mullet juveniles (M. auratus R. 1810). Juveniles with a initial mean weight of 14.15 g and 14.71 g were feed a semi-moist diet (%50 trout viscera + %25 soybean meal + %25 high quality wheat bran) and carp pellets for a period of 60 days in marine cages. In this study, a total of 160 one day old broiler chicks were devided into two groups consisting of 60 chicks in control group and 100 chicks in treatment group. The birds in treatment group received 50 ppm, 25 ppm, 37.5 ppm and 50 ppm danofloxacin via drinking water between the days during 0-7, 8-21, 22-35 and 36-42 respectively. In this study, S.enteritidis PT1, 4 and 7 strains isolated from chickens were used. Suspensions containing 10^9 bacteria were inoculated orally to 45 quails. Pathological lesions were examined and bacterial isolation were performed during about 30 days. In 3^{rd} days of experiment, one quail died in PT1 group. In macroscopic examinations, hyperemia and change of colour in liver and slight enlargement in spleen were observed. In microscopic examinations, degeneration, necrose and typhoid nodes were seen in liver. During 1997-1998, a serological survey of equine infectious diseases in Thailand was undertaken. Blood, sera and blood smears were taken from 400 horses, donkeys and mules out of an equine population of 8,600. Tests were carried out at the National Institute of Animal Health, Bangkok, Thailand, and at the USDA laboratories, USA, for 10 diseases. There was no evidence of the presence of African Horse Sickness, Glanders, Dourine, Surra and Equine Viral Arteritis. There was one reactor to Babesia caballi and 62 to Babesia equi. ศึกษาความสัมพันธ์ของฮอร์โมนโปรเจสเตอโรน (P4) เอสตราไดออล (E2) และคอร์ติซอล (C) ที่มี ต่อความสมบูรณ์พันธุ์ในโคนมพันธุ์ผสม 10 ตัว ด้วย Analysis of Variance และ Duncan's New Multiple Range Test จากผลการตรวจการตั้งท้องโดยการคลําผ่านทวารหนัก แบ่งโคออกได้เป็น 2 กลุ่ม ๆ ละ 5 ตัวคือ กลุ่ม ผสมติดและกลุ่มผสมไม่ติด วิเคราะห์ระดับโปรเจสเตอโรน เอลตราไดออล และคอร์ติซอลในซีรั่มของโคทั้ง สองกลุ่มในวันที่ 0 (วันที่ผสมเทียม), 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 25 และ 41 หลังการผสมโดยวิธีเรดิโออิมมิวโนเอสเสย์ พบว่าโคกลุ่มที่ผสมติดมีระดับของโปรเจสเตอโรน และคอร์ติซอลสูงกว่าโคกลุ่มที่ผสมไม่ติด (P<0.05) โคทั้ง สองกลุ่มมีระดับโปรเจสเตอโรน ตำสุดในวันที่ 0 (P<0.05) ไม่พบว่ามีความแตกต่างของระดับเอสตราไดออล ระหว่างกลุ่มและในวันต่าง ๆ ที่ทําการศึกษา

การทดลองนี้ มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาผลการแช่แข็งตัวอ่อนกระบือปลักไทย ที่เก็บจากแม่กระบือ ปลักพันธุ์ดีที่ถูกคัดออกจากฝูง โดยทําการแช่แข็งตัวอ่อนกระบือปลักจำนวน 29 ตัวอ่อน ด้วยวิธีมาตรฐาน ใช้อัตราการลดอุณหภูมิ 0.5°c ต่อนาที จากอุณหภูมิ -6.5°c ถึง -30 °c ก่อนนำลงแช่ในไนโตรเจนเหลว น้ํายา แช่แข็งตัวอ่อนที่ประกอบด้วย 10% (v/v) กลีเซอรอล + 0.1 M ซูโครส ในสารละลาย Dulbecco's modified phosphate buffered saline (D-PBS) หลังเก็บไว้นานประมาณ 1 ปี ละลายตัวอ่อนและดึงสารป้องกันการเกิด ผลึกน้ำแข็งออกจากตัวอ่อนแบบ 3 ขั้นตอนในน้ำยาสำหรับละลายตัวอ่อน โดยค่อย ๆ ลดความเข้มข้นของ กลีเซอรอลจาก 5% (v/v) ไปยัง 2.5% และ 0% ตามลำดับ อย่างละ 5 นาที พบว่ามีตัวอ่อนกระบือ จำนวน 25 ตัวอ่อน (86.2%, 25/29) ที่มีคุณภาพและลักษณะสามารถนำไปใช้ย้ายฝากได้ แบ่งเป็นระยะมอรูล่า 15 ตัวอ่อน (83.3%, 15/18) มอรูล่าระยะรวมตัวแน่น (compact morula) จำนวน 4 ตัวอ่อน (100%, 4/4) เป็นตัวอ่อน ระยะบลาสโตซีสระยะแรก (early blastocyst) 2 ตัวอ่อน (100%, 2/2) และ ระยะบลาสโตซิส (blastocyst) 4 ตัวอ่อน (100%, 4/4) ย้ายฝากตัวอ่อนจำนวน 21 ตัวอ่อนให้กระบือตัวรับ 10 ตัว ตัวรับตั้งท้อง 1 ตัว (10%, 1/10) จากผลการศึกษานี้ …

ค่า bioavailability ของโภชนะ คือ ปริมาณเปอร์เซ็นต์ของโภชนะที่สัตว์ดูดซึมได้จริง ๆ จากอาหารที่กิน และเป็นส่วนที่นำไปใช้ในขบวนการเมตาบอลิซึม ค่านี้แสดงให้เห็นถึงคุณค่าของโภชนะโดยเปรียบเทียบ ระหว่างสารอาหาร 2 ชนิด การหาค่า bioavailability มีหลายวิธี คือ slope-ratio assay, parallel lines assay, three-point assay และ standard curve assay แต่ละวิธีก็จะมีข้อกำหนด และความเหมาะสมของการใช้ งานแตกต่างกันไป วิธีที่ดีสุดนั้นย่อมเป็นวิธีที่เหมาะสมกับข้อกำหนดมากที่สุด ในการทดลองหาค่า bioavailability ของสารอาหารนั้น slope-ratio assay เป็นวิธีที่นิยมกันที่สุด มีข้อกำหนดอยู่ 2 ข้อ คือ การตอบสนองของ สัตว์จะมีค่าเท่ากันเมื่อไม่ได้เติมโภชนะที่ต้องการเปรียบเทียบทั้งสองชนิดในอาหาร (intersection) และความ สัมพันธ์ระหว่างการตอบสนองและปริมาณโภชนะที่ทดลองต้องเป็นเส้นตรง (linearity)

Cytokines are protein mediators produced by the immune and nonimmune cells that are involved in the regulation of inflammation and immune responses. The availability of several recombinant bovine cytokines have led to the investigation of the potential of cytokines as prophylactic or therapeutic strategies in the control of bovine mastitis, the most expensive disease affecting the dairy industry. The main goals of cytokine therapy are to enhance the immune response in the mammary gland against pathogenic bacteria, to increase the efficacy of antibiotic treatment, and to enhance the specific immunity of mastitis vaccines. Pigs infected with hemolytic F4+ strains of enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli often develop septicemia secondary to intestinal infection. We tested the hypothesis that inactivation of hemolysin would reduce the ability of F4+ enterotoxigenic E. coli to cause septicemia in swine following oral inoculation. Inactivation of the hemolysin structural gene (hlyA) did not decrease the incidence of septicemia in the gnotobiotic piglet model.

Despite productive viral gene expression in the peripheral nervous system during acute infection, the bovine herpesvirus 1 (BHV-1) infection cycle is blocked in sensory ganglionic neurons and consequently latency is established. The only abundant viral transcript expressed during latency is the latency-related (LR) RNA. LR gene products inhibit S-phase entry, and binding of the LR protein (LRP) to cyclin A was hypothesized to block cell cycle progression. This study demonstrates LRP is a nuclear protein which is expressed in neurons of latently infected cattle. Alternative Splicing Of The Latency-Related Transcript Of Bovine Herpesvirus 1 Yields Rnas Containing Unique Open Reading Frames, Laxminarayana R. Devireddy, Clinton J. Jones

The latency-related transcript (LRT) of bovine herpesvirus 1 (BHV-1) is the only abundant viral RNA detected during latency. A previous study (A. Hossain, L. M. Schang, and C. Jones, J. Virol. 69:5345–5352, 1995) concluded that splicing of polyadenylated [poly(A) +] and splicing of nonpolyadenylated [poly(A) -] LRT are different. In this study, splice junction sites of LRT were identified. In trigeminal ganglia of acutely infected calves (1, 7, or 15 days postinfection [p.i.]) or in latently infected calves (60 days p.i.), alternative splicing of poly(A) + LRT occurred. Paradujadinia Halicoris (Owen, 1833), A Nematode From The Stomach Of A Sea Cow In The Gulf Of Thailand, Jitra Waikagul, Suwat Thonghom, Wanna Maipanich

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

Twenty-seven male and 26 female roundworms were recovered from the stomach of Dugong dugon from Trang Province, Southern Thailand. The worms were kept in 70% alcohol and transported to the Department of Helminthology for study. The worm has three lips with interlabia, intestinal caecum and ventriculus. The male worm presents two spicules alate in the middle shaft, four pairs of precloacal papillae, two pairs of paracloacals and two pairs of postcloacal papillae. After comparison with specimens borrowed from Queensland Museum, the nematode was ascertained to be Paradujardinia halicoris.

โรคความดันโลหิตสูงในสุนัข หมายถึง ภาวะที่สุนัขมีความดันโลหิตสูงกว่าปกติ โดยอาจจำแนกความ ดันโลหิตสูงตามความรุนแรงของค่าความดันที่เพิ่มขึ้น ความสำคัญของโรคนี้ในสุนัขยังไม่เป็นที่แน่ชัด แต่ พบว่าสุนัขที่มีความดันโลหิตสูงอย่างรุนแรง มักจะเกิดความผิดปกติของการมองเห็น วิธีการวัดความดัน โลหิตในสุนัขมีอยู่หลายวิธี ซึ่งแต่ละวิธีให้ความแม่นยำและความถูกต้องแตกต่างกันไป ประกอบกับลักษณะ ทางกายวิภาคของขาสุนัข เป็นอุปสรรคที่สำคัญในการวัดความดันโลหิตในทางคลินิก นอกจากนี้พบว่าความ ดันโลหิตยังมีความเปลี่ยนแปลงขึ้น-ลงได้ในแต่ละนาทีนอกเหนือจากการเปลี่ยนแปลงขึ้น-ลงตามปกติในช่วงเวลาของวัน ดังนั้นค่าเฉลี่ยการวัดความดันอย่างต่อเนื่องตลอด 24 ชั่วโมง จึงให้ผลถูกต้องสูงสุดในการวัดความดันโลหิต บทความนี้ได้รวบรวมนำเสนอสถานภาพปัจจุบันของการเกิดความดันโลหิตสูงในสุนัข ความหมาย และชนิดของความดันโลหิตสูง วิธีการวัดความดันโลหิต ปัจจัยที่มีผลต่อความดันโลหิตในสุนัข รวมถึงพยาธิสรีรวิทยาของการเกิดภาวะความดันโลหิตสูงและกลไกการควบคุมความดันโลหิตโดยอาศัยระบบประสาทและไต

จุดประสงค์ของการศึกษานี้ เพื่อศึกษาถึงอิทธิพลของฮอร์โมน recombinant bovine somatotropin (rBST) ต่อการตอบสนองการกระตุ้นเพิ่มการตกไข่ด้วยฮอร์โมน follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) ใน กระบือปลัก กระบือทั้งหมด 16 ตัว ถูกเหนี่ยวนำการเป็นสัดด้วยการสอดแท่งซิลิโคนที่เคลือบด้วยโปรเจส เตอโรน และ estradiol benzoate ชนิดแคปซูล (CIDR-B) เข้าทางช่องคลอด หลังจากนั้นแบ่งกระบือออกเป็น 2 กลุ่ม กลุ่มละ 8 ตัว โดย กระบือในกลุ่มที่หนึ่งได้รับ FBST ชนิดที่ซึมเข้าสู่กระแสเลือดอย่างช้า ๆ ในวันที่ 4 หลังการใส่ฮอร์โมน CIDR-B กระบือกลุ่มที่สองไม่ได้รับ FBST การกระตุ้นเพิ่มการตกไข่กระทําโดยการฉีด FSH แบบลดโต๊ส ปริมาณทั้งหมด 260 มิลลิกรัม เช้า-เย็น เป็นเวลา 3.5 วัน โดยเริ่มจากวันที่ 9-11 หลัง การให้ฮอร์โมน CIDR-B ในวันที่ 3 ของการให้ FSH ฉีดพรอสตาแกลนดินขนาด 500 ไมโครกรัม พร้อมทั้งดึง CIDR-B ออก เมื่อกระบือแสดงอาการเป็นสัด ผสมพันธุ์โดยใช้พ่อกระบือคุมฝูง ทำการเก็บตัวอ่อนในวันที่ 6 หลังจากที่กระบือแสดงอาการเป็นสัด ผลการศึกษาพบว่า ค่าเฉลี่ยของจำนวนคอร์ปัส ลูเทียม ของกระบือ ในกลุ่มที่หนึ่ง และสอง เท่ากับ 6.0±2.2 และ 4.3±1.1 ตามลำดับ จำนวนตัวอ่อนที่เก็บได้ และตัวอ่อนที่มี คุณภาพดีของกระบือกลุ่มที่หนึ่ง และ สอง เท่ากับ 4.5±1.6 และ 3.0±1.0 และ 2.3+1.0 และ 0.8±0.3 ตามลำดับ จำนวนตัวอ่อนที่มีคุณภาพดีที่เก็บได้จากกระบือที่ได้รับ FBST มีมากกว่ากลุ่มที่ไม่ได้รับ rBST …

Spinal neurones in the thoracolumbar intermediolateral column (IML) of the rat were double-labelled for nitric oxide synthase (NOS) and neurokinin 1 receptor (NK1r) using a double indirect immunofluorescent technique. Immunostaining revealed a colocalisation of NOS and NK1r in a number of the IML neurones, particularly those that had relatively large but scattered cell bodies, and the area closed to lamina X. Neurones that expressed NK1r were more likely to co-express NOS whereas only small number of NOS-expressing neurones were NK1r immunoreactive. ความชุกของโรคภูมิคุ้มกันบกพร่องในแมวที่แสดงอาการทางคลินิกของโรคเรื้อรัง+, รสมา ภู่สุนทรธรรม, คณิศักดิ์ อรวีระกุล, ภาวนา อุทัยโชติวรรณ, กาญจน์ เชื้อศิริ

ทำการศึกษาในแมว 28 ราย ที่เข้ามารับการรักษา ณ โรงพยาบาลสัตว์เล็ก คณะสัตวแพทยศาสตร์ จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย ระหว่างเดือนมิถุนายน ถึง ตุลาคม 2540 และได้รับการวินิจฉัยเบื้องต้นจาก สัตวแพทย์ประจำโรงพยาบาลว่าเป็นโรคติดเชื้ออย่างเรื้อรังของระบบทางเดินหายใจ ระบบทางเดินอาหาร และ/หรือ ระบบขับถ่ายปัสสาวะเกินกว่า 2 สัปดาห์ ตรวจพบหลักฐานการปรากฏแอนติบอดี้บ่งชี้การติด เชื้อโรคภูมิคุ้มกันบกพร่องในแมว (FIV) 32.0% พบการติดเชื้อในแมวเพศผู้ (77.8%) มากกว่าแมวเพศเมีย (22.2%) อย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ (P< 0.05) อายุเฉลี่ยของแมวที่ติดเชื้อเท่ากับ 5.44 ± 2.51 ปี โดยพบ มากที่สุดในแมวที่มีช่วงอายุ 5-7 ปี (55.6%) รองลงมาคือช่วงอายุน้อยกว่า 4 ปี (22.2%) และช่วงอายุมากกว่า 7 ปี (22.2%) เมื่อพิจารณาตามลักษณะของที่อยู่อาศัย พบว่าเป็นในแมวที่เลี้ยงในตึกแถวมาก ที่สุด(77.8%)รองลงมาจะพบในแมวที่เลี้ยงในบ้านเดี่ยว (11.1%) และห้องเช่า (11.1%) จากการตรวจพบ แอนติบอดี้บ่งชี้การติดเชื้อในแมวที่แสดงอาการของการติดเชื้อที่ระบบขับถ่ายปัสสาวะเรื้อรังมากที่สุด (55.6%) ระบบทางเดินอาหาร (22.2%) ระบบทางเดินหายใจร่วมกับทางเดินอาหาร (11.1%) ระบบทางเดินอาหารร่วม กับระบบปัสสาวะ (11.1%) และพบว่าแมวที่กินอาหารเจ้าของปรุงให้เอง (88.9%) มีการติดเชื้อมากกว่าใน แมวที่กินอาหารสำเร็จรูป (11.1%) นอกจากนี้พบการติดเชื้อสูงในแมวที่เลี้ยงแบบปล่อย (100%) และเป็น แมวไม่เคยได้รับวัคซีนใด ๆ (88.9%) สำหรับค่าทางโลหิตวิทยาในแมวที่มีการติดเชื้อ FIV นั้น พบว่ามีค่า ทางโลหิตวิทยาอยู่ในช่วงปกติ ค่าเคมีคลินิกเปลี่ยนแปลงตามอาการทางคลินิกของโรคเรื้อรังที่เกิดขึ้น
