This study aimed to characterize the expression the GPRC5D gene in the skin of the Liaoning Cashmere goat. Initially, the GPRC5D gene sequence was subjected to bioinformatics analysis. Second, semiquantitative RT-PCR was used to detect GPRC5D gene expression in the tissues. Third, in situ hybridization was used to locate GPRC5D gene expression in the primary and secondary hair follicles. Functional site analysis showed that GPRC5D has 7 transmembrane domains. The present study was conducted to investigate the effects of gamma irradiation on Ichthyophthirius multifiliis trophonts and to determine the effects of exposure on inactivated parasites in rainbow trout. In the first trial, fish were treated with irradiated Ichthyophthirius multifiliis trophonts for 21 days. Results showed that irradiation at doses of 150 Gy and higher was required to inactivate Ichthyophthirius multifiliis trophonts. The LD50 value obtained was 52.2 Gy. This study evaluated the effect of low-grade Eimeria tenella infections in broiler chicks of Cobb (C) and Marshal (M) breeds. Birds from the experimental group of each breed were orally infected with 3000 sporulated oocysts of E. tenella and examined for weight gain, feed conversion ratio (FCR), packed cell volume (PCV), total leukocyte count (WBC), total plasma protein (TP), gross lesion scores, and histopathological changes 10 days after infection. Ninety-two umbilical pathologies were surgically treated in Holstein, Aberdeen Angus, and Polled Hereford calves, both males and females, whose ages ranged between 2 and 8 months. The pathology diagnosis was performed considering the main anatomical elements involved in the umbilical cord, the inflammation progression, and the macroscopic characteristics of injuries. The umbilical cord pathologies were related to calving characteristics. The proportion of affected umbilical cords in calves born via assisted calving (77%) was significantly higher than that observed in calves born from normal parturition. The objective of this study was to identify selected blood immunological and biochemical parameters in horses infected with Cyathostominae before and after treatment with ivermectin. Fecal samples were collected before ivermectin treatment and on days 1, 2, 3, 4, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, and 75 after drug administration. Blood was sampled on the same days to determine levels of total protein, \gamma-globulin, ceruloplasmin, and lysozyme activity. Isolation and identification of Avibacterium paragallinarum, the causative agent of infectious coryza, is considered a challenging task in laboratories with limited specialties. In the present study, 14 commercial layer fowls showing the typical symptoms of infectious coryza were subjected to primary isolation followed by polymerase chain reaction confirmation of suspect colonies (culture-PCR). Direct PCR assays on infraorbital sinus swab samples were also carried out. Non-invasive measures for assessing long-term stress in free ranging mammals are an increasingly important approach for understanding physiological responses to landscape conditions. Using a spatially and temporally expansive dataset of hair cortisol concentrations (HCC) generated from a threatened grizzly bear (Ursus arctos) population in Alberta, Canada, we quantified how variables representing habitat conditions and anthropogenic disturbance impact long-term stress in grizzly bears. We characterized spatial variability in male and female HCC point data using kernel density estimation and quantified variable influence on spatial patterns of male and female HCC stress surfaces using random forests. Improved understanding of longevity represents a significant welfare opportunity for the domestic dog, given its unparalleled morphological diversity. Epidemiological research using electronic patient records (EPRs) collected from primary veterinary practices overcomes many inherent limitations of referral clinic, owner questionnaire and pet insurance data. Clinical health data from 102,609 owned dogs attending first opinion veterinary practices (n = 86) in central and southeast England were analysed, focusing on 5095 confirmed deaths.

Of deceased dogs with information available, 3961 (77.9%) were purebred, 2386 (47.0%) were female, 2528 (49.8%) were neutered and 1105 (21.7%) were insured. The overall median longevity was 12.0 years …

Bacterial isolates from different cases of respiratory infections in small and large ruminants were evaluated using bacterial culture and semi-nested PCR and identification was confirmed by DNA sequencing. Universal primers targeting the bacterial 16S rRNA for bacteria were used. Other sets of primers that were specific for Gram-positive bacteria and combinations of primers specific for Gram-negative organisms were used in the second PCR. The current research aimed to further study the delayed post-ovulatory progesterone (P4) rise in Thai-Holstein dairy heifers in the points of an association with endocrine events around oestrus (experiment 1), effects on conception rate and possibility for P4 supplement post-insemination (experiment 2). In experiment 1, the P4 levels in the delayed P4 heifers reached 1 ng/ml later than in the normal ones (6.8±0.4 vs 3.3±1.5 days after oestrus, resp.) (p = 0.053). Therefore, we aimed to investigate pathological changes of the genital tracts of culled boars with testicular atrophy. The aim of this study was to characterize the antimicrobial susceptibility, resistance genes and the in vivo testing of antimicrobial susceptibility in chickens. Eighteen A. paragallinarum isolated in Thailand were tested for antimicrobial susceptibility by broth microdilution method. A high prevalence of resistance MIC pattern to oxytetracycline, doxycycline, streptomycin, ciprofloxacin, erythromycin and sulfamethoxazole-trimethoprim was found. This study aimed to investigate chemical quality of animal drinking used in livestock farms in Thailand. Samples and information from 68 pig farms, 35 chicken farms and 9 duckling farms were collected during March to August 2011. Water quality data were analyzed and compared with standard levels using the Mann-Whitney U and Wilcoxon Signed Rank Tests. Virusnip™ is one of the commercial potassium peroxymonosulfate disinfectants widely used in swine farms. This disinfectant is well studied and proves to be excellent in antimicrobial activity previously. However, there is no information about its efficacy under field condition.
