Twenty-six osteoarthritic cats concurrent with chronic kidney disease (CKD) enrolled in this study. All cats were divided randomly into 2 groups; control group (n=12) received placebo and treatment group (n=14) received PCSO-524 for 60 days. Cats had verified stable CKD stage II and had treated and followed up for CKD more than 3 months were included in our study. Before starting the study (day 0), all cats were taken the coxofemoral joint radiographic imaging. Only cats with the radiographic osteoarthritic lesion(s) were recruited. Fifty stifles from Pomeranians and Chihuahuas with over five years old were enrolled in this study, which are 8 normal stifles and 42 medial patellar luxation (MPL) stifles. All MPL stifles were assigned randomly into 2 groups, including control and treatment groups. The control group was received placebo daily for 16 weeks, while treatment group was fed with PCSO-524 for 16 weeks. Lameness score, ultrasonographic findings, radiographic OA score and owner questionnaire (cBPI) were assessed at pre-treatment (D0) and post-treatment at week 2, 4, 8, 12 and 16. Brachycephalic airway obstruction syndromes (BAOS) are the most common respiratory problems in brachycephalic dogs. Surgical treatment which are staphylectomy and alaplasty is commonly used for correction primary lesions of BAOS. The purpose of this study is to compare clinical outcome of post staphylectomy using ultrasonic scalpel and bipolar sealing devices. Twenty brachycephalic dogs were included for staphylectomy and randomly separated into two groups. Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) is highly limited to only cell subsets that express PRRSV receptors. Reproductive organ revealing the typical signs of PRRSV infection may be the critical site of problem syndromes. Persistent PRRSV producing re-infection via horizontal or vertical transmission could not be eradicated from herds. This research examined the possibility of porcine endometrium to be a PRRSV permissive cell and serves as the primary cause of the persistent PRRSV. ผลของการเสริมกากชาต่อสมรรถภาพการผลิต การย่อยได้ปรากฏ และ การผลิตก๊าซมีเทนของแพะนมลูกผสม, รพีพัฒน์ สันโดษ

งานวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาผลของการใช้กากชา ต่อประสิทธิภาพการใช้อาหาร การย่อยได้ปรากฏ การเปลี่ยนแปลงของเมทาโบไลท์ในเลือด และการผลิตก๊าซมีเทน ในอาหารที่ใช้เลี้ยงแพะนมลูกผสม วางแผนการวิจัยแบบสลับ (3 x 3 crossover design) โดยใช้แพะนมลูกผสมพันธุ์ซาแนนจำนวน 9 ตัว น้ำหนักเฉลี่ย 30 ± 3.50 กิโลกรัม เป็นแม่แพะที่ผ่านการคลอดมาแล้ว (multiparous) และอยู่ในช่วงให้ผลผลิตน้ำนมหลังคลอด (lactation) การทดลองแบ่งออกเป็น 2 ช่วง โดยในช่วง 14 วันแรกจะเป็นช่วงของการปรับตัว ช่วงที่เหลืออีก 7 วันจะเป็นช่วงของการเก็บตัวอย่างและข้อมูล แพะแต่ละตัวได้รับอาหารทั้งสามสูตรที่มีการเสริมกากชาลงในสัดส่วนที่ 0 5 และ 10 เปอร์เซ็นต์น้ำหนักแห้งในรูปของอาหารผสมเสร็จ (Total mixed ration; TMR) (กลุ่มที่ 1 2 และ 3 ตามลำดับ) มีการคำนวณระดับโปรตีนและพลังงานเท่ากันทุกสูตร (isonitrogenous and isocaloric diets) ทำการเก็บตัวอย่าง ได้แก่ อาหาร เลือด ปัสสาวะ มูล น้ำนม และของเหลวจากกระเพาะรูเมน เพื่อที่จะประเมินค่าพารามิเตอร์ที่สังเกตหลายชนิด ผลการศึกษาพบว่า ไม่มีความแตกต่างกันทางสถิติในกลุ่มทดลองของปริมาณการกินได้ ผลผลิตน้ำนม ค่าเมทาโบไลท์ในเลือด (กลูโคส ไตรกลีเซอไรด์ โปรตีนรวม) ค่าพีเอชในกระเพาะรูเมน กรดไขมันระเหย (volatile fatty acids; VFAs) ค่าอัลลานโทอิน (allantoin) ค่าสมดุลไนโตรเจนและผลผลิตก๊าซมีเทน ส่วนประกอบของโปรตีนในน้ำนมในกลุ่มที่ 3 มีความแตกต่างกันทางสถิติ (p<0.05) เมื่อเปรียบเทียบกับกลุ่มที่ 1 และ 2 ค่าการย่อยได้ของวัตถุแห้งในกลุ่มที่ 3 สูงกว่าในกลุ่มที่ 2 อย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ (p<0.05) แต่ไม่แตกต่างจากกลุ่มที่ 1 ส่วนกลุ่มที่ 2 มีค่าการย่อยได้ของสารอินทรีย์ โปรตีนและ NDF ต่ำที่สุดในทุกกลุ่ม อย่างไรก็ตาม กลุ่มที่ 3 มีค่าการย่อยได้ของ NDF และ ADF สูงที่สุดเมื่อเปรียบเทียบกับกลุ่มอื่น จากผลการศึกษาสรุปได้ว่า สามารถใช้กากชาได้ถึงระดับ 10 เปอร์เซ็นต์น้ำหนักแห้งในสูตรอาหาร เพื่อเป็นแหล่งโปรตีนในอาหารที่ใช้เลี้ยงแพะนมลูกผสมผสมซาเนนได้ โดยไม่ก่อให้เกิดผลเสียต่อปริมาณการให้ผลผลิตและนิเวศวิทยาในกระเพาะรูเมน อย่างไรก็ตาม การเสริมกากชาที่ระดับ 5 และ 10 เปอร์เซ็นต์น้ำหนักแห้งในสูตรอาหารไม่ส่งผลต่อการผลิตก๊าซมีเทน

The aim was to investigate behaviors and stress responses of rams and ewes in an intensive fattening period. Out-of-breeding rams (Hemsin = 10, Karakul = 10) and ewes (Hemsin = 8, Karakul = 10) were used in the study. Sheep and rams belonging to each breed were placed into four different pens. Behavioral observations (individual, feeding, abnormal self-grooming behaviors) were performed 2 days a week for two groups a day for 1 h. In order to evaluate rumen microbial activity, the effects of two nitrogen sources (organic and inorganic) were analyzed in vitro by inoculating dairy cow rumen fluid and using citrus byproduct (CBP) and milk thistle (Silybum marianum, MT) as energy source substrates. This study aimed to identify the expression levels of some candidate genes for mastitis resistance (LTF and BRCA1), milk yield (POU1F1 and IGF-1), and milk quality (PPARγ and CSN2) in different feeding systems (pen- and pasture-based) used for Damascus goats. Milk samples were taken from all goats in both pen and pasture groups at 4 times, at the 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 7th months of the study. The size of salivary glands, acinar structure, and secretion particularities differ from one species to another and are influenced by diet and environment. In order to investigate whether there are histological or histochemical differences in the salivary glands of animals from the same species, bred in identical conditions of environment and diet, we assessed two laboratory rat strains. The aim of this study was to investigate the preference of side and standing in relationship with milking characteristics of crossbred cows in a double-sided herringbone milking parlour. Seventy-two crossbred cows were milked in an 8 × 2 low-line automated herringbone milking parlour having automatic cluster removal settings for 45 milking sessions. There was considerable variation among individuals in the consistency of side choice (χ$^{2}$ = 1.414, P = 0.234). Plant-derived polysaccharides have been reported for diverse biological response modification (BRM) and immunotherapeutic (IT) activities in animals by activating their defense systems to perform better immunogenically against invading pathogens. Keeping this in view, this study was conducted to assess the BRM and IT activities of barley (Hordeum vulgare L.)-derived arabinoxylans (AXs) against coccidiosis in broilers. Significantly enhanced (P < 0.05) in vivo and in vitro lymphoproliferative responses to T-cell mitogens were revealed in broilers administered barley AXs when compared to the control group. Humoral immune response in terms of antibody titers against sheep erythrocytes was also found higher (P < 0.05) in AX-administered chickens. Furthermore, AX-administered chickens also showed higher weekly weight gains and improved feed conversion ratios as compared to controls. Results of the challenge experiment showed that the percentage of protection and daily weight gains were statistically higher (P < 0.05) whereas mean oocysts per gram of droppings and lesion scores were significantly lower (P < 0.05) in the chickens administered barley AXs as compared to controls. In conclusion, barley-derived AXs led to better growth performance and elicited humoral and cellular immune responses in commercial broilers that persisted against coccidial infection in broiler chickens.

This study was conducted to detect ectoparasites of hares (Lepus europaeus Pallas) between the years of 2003 and 2015 in Konya Province, Turkey. In this period, 75 hares shot by hunters were examined for ectoparasites macroscopically. Ectoparasites detected on the hares were collected with pliers and stored in tubes containing 70% ethanol. The ticks were identified under a stereo zoom microscope. Other parasites were cleared in 10% KOH, rinsed in distilled water, and transferred to 70%, 80%, and 99% ethanol, respectively, and mounted on slides in Canada balsam. The effects of diminazene aceturate (DA), levamisole, and/or vitamin A on hematological and clinical parameters of West African dwarf sheep experimentally infected with Trypanosoma brucei were studied. The treatment of reproductive disorders is based on the use of the available antibiotics or antiseptic agents. Prolonged or inadequate antibiotic treatment contributes to the development of antimicrobial resistances, while the use of antiseptics, particularly in high concentrations, leads to endometrial lesions and prolonging of the service period. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence and seroprevalence of hypodermosis and to calculate the economic loss associated with hide damage in the cattle on the Kars Plateau, Turkey. A total of 6563 randomly selected cattle were examined by skin palpation from 1 April to 31 May 2014. A subset of 465 serum samples was collected from October to November in 2014 and analyzed using a commercial ELISA kit. Cysticercosis/taeniasis is one of the neglected parasitic zoonoses in developing countries like India. A study was conducted for a period of 7 years from 2010 to 2017 during which 13,596 pig and 1238 human samples were screened to learn the exact scenario of cysticercosis/taeniasis in the different regions of Maharashtra State. Prevalence of cysticercosis/taeniasis in pigs and humans was recorded using various diagnostic methods such as meat inspection and serological methods involving ELISA. Potassium tellurite ( K2TeO3) is an effective selective agent for O157:H7 Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC), whereas tellurite resistance in non-O157 STEC is variable with information on O45 minimal. High-level K2TeO3 resistance in STEC is attributable to the ter gene cluster with terD an indicator of the cluster’s presence. Polymerase chain reactions for terD and K2TeO3 minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) determinations in broth cultures were conducted on 70 STEC and 40 non-STEC control organisms. Sarcoplasmic/endoplasmic reticulum Ca2+ adenosine triphosphatase (SERCA)2a, a critical regulator of calcium homeostasis, is known to be decreased in heart failure. Patients with myocarditis or dilated cardiomyopathy develop autoantibodies to SERCA2a suggesting that they may have pathogenetic significance. In this report, we describe epitope mapping analysis of SERCA2a in A/J mice that leads us to make five observations: 1) SERCA2a contains multiple T cell epitopes that induce varying degrees of myocarditis. One epitope, SERCA2a 971–990, induces widespread atrial inflammation without affecting noncardiac tissues; the cardiac abnormalities could be noninvasively captured by echocardiography, electrocardiography, and magnetic resonance microscopy imaging. 2) SERCA2a …

Hydrated lime manure treatment was evaluated to determine porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) susceptibility to alkaline stabilization. At pH 10, PEDV decreased (quantitative polymerase chain reaction) and lost infectivity (swine bioassay). Although ammonium decreased above pH 9 (up to 25%), alkaline stabilization managed to control potential infection from manure sources.

Infectious bovine keratoconjunctivitis (IBK) is an economically significant disease caused by Moraxella bovis. Moraxella bovoculi, although not reported to cause IBK, has been isolated from the eyes of cattle diagnosed with IBK. Identification of M. bovis and M. bovoculi can be performed using biochemical or DNA-based approaches, both of which may be time consuming and inconsistent between laboratories. Bovine respiratory disease complex (BRDC) is one of the most significant diseases of cattle. Bacterial pathogens involved in BRDC include Mannheimia haemolytica, Mycoplasma bovis, Histophilus somni, and Pasteurella multocida. We developed and evaluated a multiplexed real-time hydrolysis probe (rtPCR) assay using block-based Peltier and rotary-based thermocycling on lung tissue, nasal swabs, and deep nasopharyngeal swabs. The rtPCR results were compared to culture or a gel-based M. bovis PCR using statistical analysis to determine optimum quantification cycle (Cq) cutoffs to maximize agreement. The success of Staphylococcus aureus as a pathogen is due in part to its ability to adapt to changing environmental conditions using signal transduction pathways, such as metaboliteresponsive regulators and two-component systems. S. aureus has a two-component system encoded by the gene pair sav0224 (hptS) and sav0223 (hptR) that regulate the hexose phosphate transport (uhpT) system in response to extracellular glucose-6-phosphate.
