Interaction Of Sequentially Applied Interventions For Gait Symmetry, Adila Hoque
Interaction Of Sequentially Applied Interventions For Gait Symmetry, Adila Hoque
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
More than 50% of stroke survivors over 65 years of age experience long-term mobilityloss [50]. Hemiparesis is a form of disability that arises from this, causing paralysis on one side of the body. The long-term effects of hemiparesis include loss of locomotion, muscle spasticity, and excessive use of muscles on the non-paretic side. This leads to a gait pattern that is kinematically and kinetically asymmetric.
Several rehabilitation techniques currently exist that aim to minimize this asymmetric gait, including split-belt treadmill training, rhythmic cueing (auditory or tactile), adding mass to one foot. Each form of treatment comes with its unique strengths …
Phase Space Analysis Of Nonlinear Wave Propagation In A Bistable Mechanical Metamaterial With A Defect, Mohammed A. Mohammed, Piyush Grover
Phase Space Analysis Of Nonlinear Wave Propagation In A Bistable Mechanical Metamaterial With A Defect, Mohammed A. Mohammed, Piyush Grover
Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering: Faculty Publications
We study the dynamics of solitary waves traveling in a one-dimensional chain of bistable elements in the presence of a local inhomogeneity (“defect”). Numerical simulations reveal that depending upon its initial speed, an incoming solitary wave can get transmitted, captured, or reflected upon interaction with the defect. The dynamics are dominated by energy exchange between the wave and a breather mode localized at the defect. We derive a reduced-order two degree of freedom Hamiltonian model for wave-breather interaction and analyze it using dynamical systems techniques. Lobe dynamics analysis reveals the fine structure of phase space that leads to the complicated …
A Machine Learning Approach To Robotic Additive Manufacturing Of Uv-Curable Polymers Using Direct Ink Writing, Luis A. Velazquez
A Machine Learning Approach To Robotic Additive Manufacturing Of Uv-Curable Polymers Using Direct Ink Writing, Luis A. Velazquez
LSU Master's Theses
This thesis presents the design and implementation of a robotic additive manufacturing system that uses ultraviolet (UV)-curable thermoset polymers. Its design considers future applications involving free-standing 3D printing by means of partial UV curing and the fabrication of samples that are reinforced with fillers or fibers to manufacture complex-shape objects.
The proposed setup integrates a custom-built extruder with a UR5e collaborative manipulator. The capabilities of the system were demonstrated using Anycubic resin formulations containing fumed silica (FS) at varying weight fractions from 2.8 to 8 wt%. To fully cure the specimens after fabrication, a UV chamber was used. Then, measurements …

Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering: Faculty Publications
We developed and applied a model-driven feedforward control approach to mitigate thermal-induced flaw formation in laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) additive manufacturing process. The key idea was to avert heat buildup in a LPBF part before it is printed by adapting process parameters layer-by-layer based on insights from a physics-based thermal simulation model. The motivation being to replace cumbersome empirical build-and-test parameter optimization with a physics-guided strategy. The approach consisted of three steps: prediction, analysis, and correction. First, the temperature distribution of a part was predicted rapidly using a graph theory-based computational thermal model. Second, the model-derived thermal trends were …

This work is dedicated to a comparison of various methods of gaseous flame radiation in a three-dimensional configuration representative of a glass furnace studied at Saint Gobain Research Paris. For this purpose, several narrow band and full spectrum models of flame radiation are assessed against LBL calculations. Among narrow band models, the recently proposed l-distribution method is shown to be more accurate than the k-distribution method. Among global models, the RC-SLW technique provides a high accuracy and can be confidently used for radiative heat transfer calculations in three-dimensional high temperature configurations.

Processing Of Plastic Film From Potato Starch: Effect Of Drying Methods, Kourtney Collier, Samantha Goins, Austin Chirgwin, Isabelle Stanfield
The Journal of Purdue Undergraduate Research
Starch-based plastics are biodegradable, compostable compounds made of starch and plasticizers from natural sources. Their fabrication involves the starch-plasticizer reaction at 70–100°C followed by cooling and drying. Th e most common drying method is air drying (natural convection), which is effective but slow. Th e objective of this work is to study the effect of fast drying (forced convection) on the quality of the plastic film. Th is work compares the effects of drying conditions and drying rate on warpage, shrinkage rate, and presence of bubbles. Five drying methods are studied: (1) natural convection with uncovered petri dish, (2) natural …

his work leverages recent advancements in com- puter vision and deep learning to detect and track the motion of droplets captured by a camera. While classical computer vision techniques have been employed for detection and tracking, those approaches have limitations and are not trivially extended to droplets. We approach the problems of droplet detection and tracking through a data-driven framework, in which an annotated database of droplet images is built and object detection and tracking models are trained on this database. The accuracy of the model is evaluated and the whole process is discussed. At this point, droplet geometric properties …
