The Development Of Stage Lighting And Its Application To A Problem In Scenic Design Entailing The Use Of A Unit Set For The Staging Of Six Plays Comprising A Cross Section Of English Drama, Anthony Reid

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

Eliminating any consideration of setting, the story of the evolution of lighting is an absorbing commentary upon the history of the theatre and necessary to the full integration of its use as an instrument in the modern theatre. An understanding of the history of the development of stage lighting is as necessary a foundation to the creative and imaginative use of light in the theatre as the foundation of a building is necessary to the support of a tower. History probides the signpost showing the directions to be taken in experimentation and a standard for evaluation of such experimentation. The …

A History Of The Productions Of The Little Theatre, 1933-1935, Demarcus Brown Jan 1935

A History Of The Productions Of The Little Theatre, 1933-1935, Demarcus Brown

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The growth of interest in drama and the realization of the educational value of dramatics has developed a new place for the college theatre. Pacific Little Theatre was organized eleven years ago to fulfill a definite need and has since grown slowly and steadily into a most active producing unit, serving both school and community. Indeed Pacific Little Theatre can be taken as an excellent specific example of the contribution which can be made to campus and community life by the college aside from its main function as fundamental ground for students in the theatre arts.

Max Reinhardt: A Study Of A Regisseur, Pearl M. Rogatz May 1933

Max Reinhardt: A Study Of A Regisseur, Pearl M. Rogatz

Bachelors’ Theses

Max Reinhardt is the epitome of all great art in the theatre. To him we owe the recreation of the importance and necessity of a knowledge of stagecrafts, the glorification of the dance, the beauty of exquisite costuming and the inspirational effect of music. Germany could not have reached such great heights in world theatre without Max Reinhardt, nor could her dramatic art have enjoyed such widespread fame. Others have been mere followers of the great Reinhardt for nothing accomplished on the German stage is so far removed that it cannot be traced back to this great name in the …

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

In the Renaissance drama, revenge is known as a revenge of blood, generally the “eye for an eye” variety of retaliation. The revenge of late periods deals with the return injury directed not only to the body of the opponent but also to his mental discomfort.

It is the aim of this thesis to present the different types of revenge in tragic dramas and by means of them to show how the life, manners, and attitude of the various nationalities are reflected in dramas dealing with this theme.
