As cosmopolitan South Asians are well aware, several Indian performing arts, from Bharatanatyam to Bhangra, have come to flourish outside of India, especially as cultivated by non-resident Indians and Pakistanis. Most of these art forms, like Bharatanatyam, either adhere closely to models thriving in India itself, or else - like the British-based Bhangra - although differing from counterparts in India, are nevertheless familiar to interested urbanites in South Asia, who can buy recordings and cultivate an interest in them if they desire. This piece, The Meld, consists of five movements, each tailored to specific aspects of the new Ames Library. Through this short journey of music, one can experience what the library embodies itself, a marriage of art and technology. Emotions arise from all different aspects of each movement, may it be mystery of this new building to the dignity and class of the "Great Room" on the fifth floor holding the stained glass windows from Oxford.

From these five short movements, the Ames Library is introduced, stated, and dignified by a piece of music. It is the realization of Ames that …

In partial fulfillment of the Master of Music degree requirements for conducting, I prepared, rehearsed, and conducted Musi ca Vitale, a group of University of Northern Iowa graduate and undergraduate vocalists and instrumentalists. The recital took place March 7, 2002, in Davis Hall at the Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center. The contents of the recital included Johann Sebastian Bach's Cantata 140, Wachet auf. ruft uns die Stimme, and Morten Lauridsen's song cycle Les Chansons des Roses. Musi ca Vitale consisted of nineteen vocalists, five sopranos, five altos, five tenors, and four basses. All vocalists were students in the School of Music …

This catalogue presents 146 twentieth-century Spanish composers with 219 pieces for cello and piano. Pieces collected in this catalogue are largely original works for cello and piano. However, a few pieces in which the arrangement has been made by the composer or under the composer's supervision have been included. Some foreign composers working in Spain for many years have also been included. The body contains the entries by the composer's last name in alphabetical order. This document presents a pilot study for evaluating the serious artistic merit of unaccompanied solo trumpet literature. The model for use in the study was derived from the efforts of two wind band literature researchers, Acton E. Ostling, Jr. and Jay W. Gilbert. Ostling wrote his dissertation in 1978 and Gilbert replicated and updated the research in 1993. The primary element of the Ostling and Gilbert studies was a carefully defined collection of ten criteria used to evaluate the quality of each work. Lee Hoiby’s Concerto No. 2 for Piano and Orchestra, Op. 33, completed in 1980, is a welcome addition to the piano concerto repertory. The concerto was first performed June 6, 1980, in Chicago by Lee Hoiby with the American Chamber Symphony conducted by Robert Frisbie. This concerto contains the usual three movements and reflects many stylistic traits of late Romantic music. The purpose of this paper is to provide a stylistic and analytical examination of Lee Hoiby’s Concerto No. 2 for Piano and Orchestra, Op.33. The paper is organized into three chapters. Although the poems of the troubadours have been extensively studied almost since they were first composed and the troubadours themselves indicate that they tried to create interactions between the melodies and the words, the melodies and the interactions between the poems and melodies in the complete songs have been examined much less intensively. In this dissertation I delve into the songs of the late twelfth-century troubadour Folquet de Marseille whose thirteen songs surviving with their melodies provide a varied collection of a suitable size to permit intensive analysis of poetic and musical compositional practices and the interactions between the two. …

Manuel Quiroga Losada (1892-1961), violinist, composer, and artist, was one of the foremost figures of the first half of the 20th century. This study tries to bring to light his musical legacy, a long overdue task. Until now, all attempts to rediscover the figure of Quiroga have centered mainly on his career as a violinist, his recordings or his paintings, however not on his compositions. This document is an inventory of the forty-four pieces for violin solo, violin and piano, and violin and orchestra written by Quiroga.
