The Great Dance, Timothy G. Tollefson Dec 2006

The Great Dance, Timothy G. Tollefson

All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The Great Dance, an original composition for full orchestra, was inspired by the novel, Perelandra (1944), by C.S. Lewis. A major theme of Lewis's book is the fall of man into sin. The central character, Elwin Ransom, is sent to the planet Perelandra to help the humans there resist falling into temptation like they did on Thulcandra (Earth). Ultimately, Perelandra's Eve does not fall, and the book ends with the angels (eldila) proclaiming long, joyous hymns of praise to God (Maleldil). During this ending scene, Ransom and the two humans of Perelandra are allowed to see through time and the …

Effects Of Live Music On Pain, Mood, And Exercise Adherence With Rehabilitation Patients, Victoria Storm Dec 2006

Effects Of Live Music On Pain, Mood, And Exercise Adherence With Rehabilitation Patients, Victoria Storm

Masters Theses

Incorporating music into treatment protocols is a non-pharmacological approach to pain management. Music can aid in mood and motivation, and assists in coordination of movement through rhythmic entrainment. Few studies have looked at the effectiveness of music on pain and mood while actively engaged in exercise. In this study, patients in an inpatient physical rehabilitation facility were provided with rhythmically synchronized music during upper extremities exercises. Self-reported ratings (McGill Pain Questionnaire - Short Form and Feeling Scale) of pain and mood were taken through a pretest post-test between subjects group design. Rate of Perceived Exertion (Borg's RPE) was taken post-test …

Teaching Music Theory In The Traditional Wind Band Rehearsal: A Rationale, Survey Of Materials, And Recommendations, Eric Lynn Harris Dec 2006

Teaching Music Theory In The Traditional Wind Band Rehearsal: A Rationale, Survey Of Materials, And Recommendations, Eric Lynn Harris

Dissertations

While budget limitations have always been a part of the public school dilemma, never before have directors been forced to fight so hard for the very existence of their programs. School administrators facing district, state, and federal testing pressures are spending more and more of the annual budget in an attempt to raise test scores. This means programs in the arts and even athletics are being greatly reduced (and in some cases eliminated) in school systems across the country. To …
