Ethnic And Gender Identity In Hip-Hop Among Three Female Emcees In The Netherlands, Shoshana Walter
Ethnic And Gender Identity In Hip-Hop Among Three Female Emcees In The Netherlands, Shoshana Walter
Independent Study Project (ISP) Collection
This field study project examines how female rappers in the Netherlands transgress notions of what it means to be Dutch and what it means be female. Based on interviews with three female rappers, as well as academics and participants in the hip hop scene, the author explores the significance of self identification within the current political and social context of the Netherlands. Beginning with a history of hip hop, an analysis of globalization and the Dutch hip hop scene, and a review of relevant current events, a firm foundation is established on which issues of identity, ethnicity, and gender in …

Parker B. Wagnild Portrait In Schmucker Hall, Stephanie M. Bonnes
Parker B. Wagnild Portrait In Schmucker Hall, Stephanie M. Bonnes
Hidden in Plain Sight Projects
A painting of Parker B. Wagnild hangs outside of the College Choir rehearsal room in Schmucker hall. Only a plaque bearing his name is underneath the painting, even the artist remains unknown. The painting is quite small in comparison to what the man in the painting has done for Gettysburg College. Though perhaps the placement of the painting means more than its size, for it located at a central spot in the music department building, and it is right outside of the College Choir rehearsal room. This places Wagnild at the heart of both the department and the choir, both …

The Relationship Between Creativity Style And Music Career In University Music Students, David A. Zmudka
Masters Theses
This study investigated the relationship between creativity style and choice of musical career among university students. Data was collected from 74 students enrolled in one of four majors in music; music education, music therapy, instrumental performance and jazz performance, as assessed by View: An Assessment of problem solving style, which included 34 items defining problem-solving style across three dimensions including Orientation to Change (OC), Manner of Processing (MP), and Ways of Deciding (WD) scales. Subjects also provided demographic information concerning their declared major, preferred musical career, and level of education. Significant differences were found between the four groups on …
A Comparison Of The Violin Pedagogy Of Auer, Flesch, And Galamian: Improving Accessibility And Use Through Characterization And Indexing, Kelley M. Arney
A Comparison Of The Violin Pedagogy Of Auer, Flesch, And Galamian: Improving Accessibility And Use Through Characterization And Indexing, Kelley M. Arney
Music Theses - Archive
The development of the index and characterization tools allows pedagogical texts to be used as resource texts. The common index allows any researcher to access applicable and significant information of a text quickly without destroying the continuity of the original text. The characterization charts aid the researcher in using the information in historical and philosophical ways. Thus, the index and characterizations of the Auer, Flesch, and Galamian texts gives string educators of advanced students (especially conservatory and university violin teachers) and performers access to three important pedagogical texts by an accessible, applicable, and scholarly approach.

A Survey Of Financial Aspects, Staffing And Service Trends Of Music Therapy In Hospice Programs, Melissa Amy Hirokawa
Masters Theses
The purpose of this study was to compile quantitative data to determine how hospice programs fund music therapy services, and to identify staffing trends (number of music therapists and employment status) and service trends (caseload, frequency, and length of sessions) for hospice programs with music therapy in the Great Lakes Region. Thirty-six music therapists completed the survey and qualified for the study. Participants were asked to complete a one-time online survey with 26 questions pertaining to basic demographic and staffing information, music therapy services provided and session information, and funding.
Results of this survey indicate that there are differences in …
