Customers’ Goal-Related Behavior In Loyalty Programs, Junzhou Zhang 2019 Old Dominion University

Customers’ Goal-Related Behavior In Loyalty Programs, Junzhou Zhang

Theses and Dissertations in Business Administration

Goal plays a vital role in the purposive behavior of consumers, and goal pursuit represents an important psychological mechanism under loyalty programs. The purpose of my dissertation is to understand loyalty program members’ goal pursuit behavior and uncover the underlying psychological mechanisms.

The first essay examined how success or failure to achieve a tier goal affects consumers’ subsequent goal pursuit behavior. Specifically, utilizing two lab experiments and 5,719 customers’ flight activities data from a major airline’s multi-tiered frequent flyer program, this essay studied the effect of goal completion magnitude on individuals’ effort toward achieving subsequent goals, and how goal type …

Session Iii English, Religious Studies & Marketing Presentation 4: Unique You In A Fractured World, Barbara Lawrence

Life of the Scholar Multidisciplinary Conference

Taking the time to know ourselves at a deeper level, improves confidence, health, interactions with others, supports ethical and entrepreneurial decisions, and provides the capacity to learn new skills, connect with others at a deeper level, thereby supporting co-creation for the future.

More young adults have recently mentioned to me that they do not feel they fit in. Everyone feels that way at certain times. There are businesses, corporate identities, and other groups that may set a framework that encourages you to “fit it.”

As a unique spirit, you are not supposed to “fit it,” to conform, to give up …

Dollar-Off Or Percent-Off? Discount Framing, Construal Levels, And Advertising Appeals, Sukki Yoon, Kacy Kim, Sujin Kim, Gabrielle Corner 2019 Bryant University

Dollar-Off Or Percent-Off? Discount Framing, Construal Levels, And Advertising Appeals, Sukki Yoon, Kacy Kim, Sujin Kim, Gabrielle Corner

Marketing Department Faculty Journal Articles

In two studies, the authors reveal how consumers react to marketing messages when two commonly used promotional tactics – price discounts and advertising messages – are synergized. Building on construal level theory, Study 1 shows how dollar-off discount framings (“Buy 2, get $10 off”) trigger low-level construal, while percent-off discount framings (“Buy 2, Get 50% off”) activate high-level construal. Study 2 demonstrates that congruent levels are matched when dollar-off discount appeals are paired with attribute appeals and when percent-off appeals are paired with benefit appeals, leading to more effective marketing communications.

Gamer Resistance To Marketization Of Play, Jacob C. Almaguer 2019 University of Texas Rio Grande Valley

Gamer Resistance To Marketization Of Play, Jacob C. Almaguer

Markets, Globalization & Development Review

Video games provide an important context to understand the role of markets in a virtual space. Particularly, consumerism has appeared to have transferred from actual reality in the virtual reality in video games. For instance, growth in use of microtransactions by companies enable consumers to exchange real currency for in-game currency. Thus, the distinction between reality and fiction appears to be blurring. This may be problematic given the hegemony of AAA video game developers (Triple-A games are those with very high development and promotion budgets), commonality of neoliberal appeals in video games, and the potential influence that video games can …

Convergence Markets: Virtual [Corpo]Reality, Tracy Harwood, Tony Garry, Russell Belk 2019 Institute of Creative Technologies, De Montfort University

Convergence Markets: Virtual [Corpo]Reality, Tracy Harwood, Tony Garry, Russell Belk

Markets, Globalization & Development Review

This paper reflects on the growing trend in the computer games sector towards multi-user social gaming that transcends media platforms. Technological advancements enable embodiment of game-based assets by players who use their ludic affordances to extend experiences into other virtual spaces. In effect, this constitutes a convergence of markets derived from different forms of media content. We comment on the game-to-virtual corporeal transcendence, discussing the cultural context of the game and its impacts on players (consumers) who interact in virtual communities using the device of an avatar.

The Unfree Space Of Play: Emergence And Control In The Videogame And The Platform, Logan Brown 2019 Indiana University, Bloomington

The Unfree Space Of Play: Emergence And Control In The Videogame And The Platform, Logan Brown

Markets, Globalization & Development Review

This article attempts to understand the economic and informatic ramifications of the convergence between increasingly connective games and massive online platforms by considering recent trends in both that center around designing for emergence. Scholarship on emergence as a property of games overwhelmingly treats emergent design as a liberating force that privileges player agency in a virtual space. Yet, as games fuse with surrounding platform ecosystems like Steam, Facebook, and Google, those emergent behaviors are subject to vast systems of inscription that analyze user behavior in order to reshape the free space of emergence and extract greater social and financial capital. …

Exploring The Relationship Between Agricultural Intensification And Changes In Cropland Areas In The Us, Meimei Lin, Qiping Huang 2019 Georgia Southern University

Exploring The Relationship Between Agricultural Intensification And Changes In Cropland Areas In The Us, Meimei Lin, Qiping Huang

Marketing Faculty Publications and Presentations

Rapid increase in human population, per capita food consumption (i.e., meat-intensive diet), and biofuel production further drives increasing demand for land. One critical solution is agricultural intensification of crop yield (i.e., crop production per unit area) improvement on the existing croplands. Therefore, the pressure to convert other land for food production can be reduced. Here, we used a panel data of the three most important crops (i.e., corn, soybean, and wheat) in the US Midwest to explore trends of change in agricultural yields and cropland areas at both county and crop levels during 1974-2008. We then utilized mapping to visualize …

A Study Of Safari Tourism In Sub-Saharan Africa: An Empirical Test Of Tourism A-B-C (T-Abc) Model, Lalita A. Manrai, Dana-Nicoleta Lascu, Ajay K. Manrai

Marketing Faculty Publications

The competition for safari tourism in sub-Saharan Africa is intense. Aside from inter-country competition, there is also intra-country competition among game viewing lodges and resorts within each country. In this context, it is important to understand the strengths and weaknesses of each country for safari tourism. We empirically test the relationship between tourism performance and multiple tourism dimensions, namely, tourism Attractions (A), Basics (B), and Context (C). We test the Tourism A-B-C model (Manrai, Manrai, & Friedeborn, 2018) using data from Botswana, Kenya, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

The study, a first in the region, addresses tourism …
