Brick-And-Platform: Listing Labor In The Digital Vintage Economy, Tamara Kneese, Michael Palm

Media Studies

Vintage goods are valued for their nostalgic association with pre-digital modes of production, but their contemporary trafficking is increasingly organized by processes of platformization. The central component of what we call “listing labor in the digital vintage economy” is the online display of collectible merchandise, but listing labor also entails promoting sellers’ brands on social media and using sales platforms and other logistical media to manage inventory, process transactions, and handle shipments. Listing labor is performed by branded merchants and their employees alongside independent entrepreneurs. The digital vintage economy connects brick-and-mortar shops and resale supply chains organized around flea markets, …

What Makes Your Movies More Engaging For Backers? A Text Analysis Of Kickstarter Projects, Shuman Liu

Lingnan Theses (MPhil & PhD)

Crowdfunding has become an increasingly popular channel for entrepreneurs to raise funds from the crowd to support their startup projects. However, the percentage of crowdfunding projects that can reach their funding goals is relatively small among all crowdfunding websites. Although previous studies have examined various factors such as individual project attributes, social ties that might influence the fund-raising outcomes, the project pitches, as a key part of any crowdfunding proposal, have rarely been studied for their role in driving the crowdfunding success.

In this research, we study a corpus of 1559 movie projects from Kickstarter up to the end of …

Customer Experience In Tourism: A Review Of Definitions, Components, And Measurements, Maksim Godovykh, Asli D. A. Tasci 2020 University of Central Florida

Customer Experience In Tourism: A Review Of Definitions, Components, And Measurements, Maksim Godovykh, Asli D. A. Tasci

Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works

Considered as a more competitive advantage than price, product, or quality, the concept of experience has received increasing attention in different disciplines. However, the pathway for handling experience has not been clearly set forth due to divergent conceptualizations and insufficient measures of customer experience. This study critically analyzes empirical and conceptual literature on experience, provides a holistic definition of experience, proposes an experience model with four main components (emotional, cognitive, sensorial, and conative), and suggests using a combination of several measures to capture the totality of tourism experience at pre-visit, onsite, and post-visit stages. These suggestions provide important implications for …

Is Salesperson Attractiveness A Boon Or A Bane? The Moderating Role Of Perceived Labor Cost‐To‐Price Ratio In Retail Bargaining, Apiradee Wongkitrungrueng, Diogo Hildebrand, Sankar Sen, Krittinee Nuttavuthisit 2020 CUNY Bernard M Baruch College

Is Salesperson Attractiveness A Boon Or A Bane? The Moderating Role Of Perceived Labor Cost‐To‐Price Ratio In Retail Bargaining, Apiradee Wongkitrungrueng, Diogo Hildebrand, Sankar Sen, Krittinee Nuttavuthisit

Publications and Research

This research examines the important but unexamined effects of salesperson attractiveness on consumer bargaining behavior in retail contexts. In line with our theorizing, three studies demonstrate that the effect of salesperson attractiveness on consumer bargaining depends on their general beliefs regarding the impact of labor costs on retail prices. While consumers bargain less with an attractive salesperson when their labor costs-to-price (LP) ratio beliefs are relatively low, they bargain harder with an attractive, as opposed to a less attractive salesperson, when their LP ratio beliefs are relatively high. As well, we provide evidence for the process, based on the salesperson’s …

2020-July-01-A Letter In Support Of Etsus International Students.Pdf, University Marketing And Communication, East Tennessee State University

ETSU News

Dear ETSU Students:

Earlier this week the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) released new guidelines for its Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) that affect on-ground international students at ETSU and at all campuses across the United States.

These new guidelines do provide some flexibility for international students to enroll in a mixture of online, face-to-face, and hybrid courses while still meeting their visa requirements; however, the guidelines also present a potential challenge to our international student population: If a U.S. institution of higher education moves fully to remote or online instruction, as ETSU and most others did in …

Cultivating Cooperatives: Benefits And Challenges Of Co-Ops And Recommendations For Maine’S Emerging Aquaculture Industries, Phoebe Walsh 2020 University of New England

Cultivating Cooperatives: Benefits And Challenges Of Co-Ops And Recommendations For Maine’S Emerging Aquaculture Industries, Phoebe Walsh

All Theses And Dissertations

Two emerging Maine industries, kelp (Saccharina latissimi and Saccharina angustissima) and Atlantic sea scallop (Placopecten magellanicus) aquaculture, have enormous market, environmental, and social potential but are faced with challenges of small scale and limited operations, inadequate infrastructure, market visibility, and limited expertise. Because many industries, particularly the dairy industry, have benefited from the use of cooperatives (co-ops) to aggregate an extremely perishable product, quickly process and effectively market and distribute, this research explores the cooperative model as a potential tool for the nascent scallop and kelp industries. Aquaculture co-ops are new in Maine. The first, the …

An Analysis Of Factors That Affect Audit Opinions: The Case Of The Local Government Units In The Metro Luzon Urban Beltway, Florenz C. Tugas, Maria Corazon P. Gomez, Roselle Marie A. Sacorum, Rica Angela M. Lipana, Geneva Leecea M. Barawid

DLSU Business & Economics Review

The audit is performed to give assurance to the public that financial statements are fairly presented. Accurate issuances of audit opinions show how compliant firms are to auditing standards. Receiving an unfavorable audit opinion will signal firms to improve internal control. Given this, it is important for the top management to assess the factors that can lead to misrepresentation of financial statements and result in adverse opinions. The same principle can be applied to government units and offices. With this in mind, the study was performed to investigate the influences of qualitative and quantitative factors on audit opinions received by …

Exploring Customers' Reactions To Enforcement Of Fine Print, Sudipto Sarkar 2020 The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley

Exploring Customers' Reactions To Enforcement Of Fine Print, Sudipto Sarkar

Theses and Dissertations

The goal of this dissertation is to investigate the effects of enforcement and/or unenforcement of “Fine Print” on consumers’ reactions. “Fine Print” is defined as both the explicit and implicit conditions under which the product/service contract waives firm responsibility and accountability toward unsuccessful product/service experience, and outcome or lack of customer satisfaction with the same. Study 1 examined the interaction effects between “Fine Print” and “Company Size” on trust, satisfaction, repurchase intention, switching intentions, and word-of-mouth in a retailer context. The results revealed significant interaction effects between “Fine Print” and “Company Size” for satisfaction and repurchase intention, where satisfaction and …
