Funding A Feature: Creating A Film Business Plan, Jordan C. Hunt 2019 Liberty University

Funding A Feature: Creating A Film Business Plan, Jordan C. Hunt

Senior Honors Theses

Every film, from the smallest indie to the biggest studio blockbuster, must be funded, and all investors who finance a movie expect that the movie will give them a return on their investment. In order to seek funding, many filmmakers create a business plan to present to potential investors. Beginning with the film industry as a whole, this paper will define a specific target audience and distribution plan for one film in order to create a business plan. The film, titled Intertwined, is an independent low budget family drama that will primarily raise funds through equity investors. This is …

Urban Land: Price Indices, Performance, And Leading Indicators, Mark Fitzgerald, David J. Hansen, Will McIntosh, Barrett A. Slade 2019 USAA Real Estate

Urban Land: Price Indices, Performance, And Leading Indicators, Mark Fitzgerald, David J. Hansen, Will Mcintosh, Barrett A. Slade

Faculty Publications

This study had two objectives: first, to evaluate the historical performance of urban land prices across 20 prominent U.S. metro markets; and second, to determine if urban land prices are a leading indicator for prices in the built environment. Using a time-varying econometric model with spatial controls, we constructed constant-quality metropolitanlevel land price indices. We found that 1) from 2000 to 2017 (18 years) national residential and commercial-industrial urban land prices appreciated by 2.08% and 1.87% annually, respectively; 2) urban land prices exhibited greater volatility compared with improved property prices; 3) in many metro markets land prices began to decline …

A Survey Of Investing And Retirement Knowledge And Preferences Of Florida Preservice Teachers, Richard Thripp 2019 University of Central Florida

A Survey Of Investing And Retirement Knowledge And Preferences Of Florida Preservice Teachers, Richard Thripp

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

New teachers are facing lower pay and less generous retirement benefits than the prior generation, yet their financial and retirement knowledge, concerns, and preferences have received little attention. To investigate these areas, the author developed a 39-item survey instrument and administered it to 314 preservice teachers in undergraduate teacher education courses at the University of Central Florida, who were primarily female elementary and early childhood education juniors and seniors ages 18–25. Florida public employees are offered an unusual choice between a traditional pension plan and a defined-contribution plan similar to a 401(k) in which they can select their own investments, …

Are Filipino Smokers More Sensitive To Cigarette Prices Due To The Sin Tax Reform Law?: A Difference-In-Difference Analysis, Myrna S. Austria, Jesson A. Pagaduan 2019 De La Salle University

Are Filipino Smokers More Sensitive To Cigarette Prices Due To The Sin Tax Reform Law?: A Difference-In-Difference Analysis, Myrna S. Austria, Jesson A. Pagaduan

DLSU Business & Economics Review

Employing a two-part estimation model using the Family Income Expenditure Survey before (2009) and after (2015) the tax reform, our study assessed the impact of the Philippine Sin Tax Reform Act (2012) on cigarette consumption and the responsiveness of cigarette consumption to price changes. The results are consistent with existing studies that cigarette consumption is price inelastic. The demand, however, has become less inelastic in the Philippines over the period 2009 to 2015, indicating a more responsive cigarette demand to price increases. Of the total effect of cigarette price increase on demand, the decrease in consumption by smokers (smoking intensity) …

The Role Of Fiscal Policy In A Natural Disaster-Prone Economy, Dickson Lim 2019 De La Salle University, Manila Philippines

The Role Of Fiscal Policy In A Natural Disaster-Prone Economy, Dickson Lim

DLSU Business & Economics Review

Theoretical work done on the macroeconomic impact of natural disasters has neglected the role of fiscal policy in stabilizing other sectors of the economy. Although inclusion of a public sector with a fiscal authority in macroeconomic models is common in the literature, most of these models assume that government expenditures are unproductive in that they do not accrue to anyone but the government. In reality, for a model that incorporates natural disaster and foreign aid, having a productive fiscal authority that produces public goods and services, as well as infrastructure, is necessary to capture the real effects of foreign aid …

Deep Habits And Taxes: A Simulation Study, Lawrence B. Dacuycuy 2019 De La Salle University

Deep Habits And Taxes: A Simulation Study, Lawrence B. Dacuycuy

DLSU Business & Economics Review

Using a calibrated dynamic model that embeds endogenous fiscal policy tools, this note provides simulation evidence on the effectiveness of tax and fiscal spending policies in determining key macroeconomic outcomes. The model was chosen because newly imposed taxes in the Philippines have affected the prices of consumption varieties and plausibly because of deep habits, the pricing policies of firms have become dynamic. Building upon the seminal model of Ravn, Schmitt-Grohe, and Uribe (2006), this note shows that preference structures do have a key role to play in determining the response of private consumption to endogenous fiscal policy. Results show that …

Can Government Bond Replace Rational Bubbles? The Empirical Investigation On Singapore And Thailand, Athakrit Thepmongkol, Pichet Kaytanyaluk 2019 National Institute of Development Administration, Bangkok, Thailand

Can Government Bond Replace Rational Bubbles? The Empirical Investigation On Singapore And Thailand, Athakrit Thepmongkol, Pichet Kaytanyaluk

DLSU Business & Economics Review

This paper aims to test the theoretical policy implication on rational bubbles. Many works, including Caballero and Krishnamurthy (2006), Kocherlakota (2009), and Martin and Ventura (2011), suggested that government bonds can rule out rational bubbles. We constructed our own bubble index using the Fourier transformation technique and, as a result, found the empirical support of the theory in the case of Singapore, but not in the case of Thailand. For the case of Singapore, the credibility in an ability to collect tax and the appropriate yield of government bonds are keys to the effectiveness of such the anti-bubble policy. Moreover, …

How Does Value Relevance Of Accounting Information React To Financial Crisis?, Karl Louis Eugenio, Rhobe Mitch Ailarie Parel, Katrina Marie Reyes, Keith Brian Yu, Cynthia Cudia 2019 De La Salle University, Manila, Philippines

How Does Value Relevance Of Accounting Information React To Financial Crisis?, Karl Louis Eugenio, Rhobe Mitch Ailarie Parel, Katrina Marie Reyes, Keith Brian Yu, Cynthia Cudia

DLSU Business & Economics Review

The relevance of financial reports rests on the value relevance of accounting information. Since accounting information is value relevant only when used by investors to reflect stock valuations, it takes trust from the users of financial information over the financial statements. The heightened volatility of markets during periods of financial distress or crisis raises the imperative to determine the value of financial information during these periods. The great recession of 2008 also victimized East Asia, and firm strategies were influenced by resulting economic shocks. In this study, we aim to determine how value relevance of accounting information differ before, during, …

Anticipating Aging And Prospecting Pension For Retirement Well-Being, Roberto E. Javier Jr., Mitzie Irene Conchada, Melvin Jabar

DLSU Business & Economics Review

Filipino young and middle-aged adults anticipate old age positively as it is a mark of achievement in human life but negatively apprehend living through their old age, given the high incidence of poverty among the elderly in the Philippines. The issues surrounding the insurance system, income security, and social pension in old age were all related to unfavorable views about living through the aging years. In-depth group interviews (IGIs) conducted across cities and municipalities in the countryside generated conceptions about aging and concerns about becoming old in a society with no strong social protection for its graying population. A qualitative …

Assessing The Poverty And Distributional Impact Of Alternative Rice Policies In The Philippines, Caesar B. Cororaton, Krista Danielle S. Yu 2019 Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, United States of America & De La Salle University, Manila, Philippines

Assessing The Poverty And Distributional Impact Of Alternative Rice Policies In The Philippines, Caesar B. Cororaton, Krista Danielle S. Yu

DLSU Business & Economics Review

Philippine domestic prices of rice are significantly higher than world prices for similar rice quality. The WTO- approved Philippine rice waiver, which allows the government to continue its quantitative restrictions on rice imports, sustains

the price gap in rice and prolongs the heavy burden on poor consumers who spend a significant amount of their income on rice. The results of rice policy simulations using a CGE model with poverty microsimulation indicate that a tariffication of the quantitative restrictions on rice imports, which maintains the level of protection to the local paddy farmers and the utilization of the generated revenue as …

The Economic Effects Of National Marijuana Legalization, Alexander Lee Robison 2019 University of Mississippi

The Economic Effects Of National Marijuana Legalization, Alexander Lee Robison

Honors Theses

In today’s political and social climate, the legalization of marijuana has been a major topic of discussion across the nation. As more states pass legislation to legalize marijuana, whether it be for medicinal or recreational purposes, a market is being created that has economically beneficial possibilities that can be harnessed on a national level. This thesis seeks to highlight the economic effect marijuana legalization could possibly have on the national economy by examining the states that have legalized marijuana. States who have already passed such legislation provide a framework for state-level economic impact of marijuana legalization that can be projected …

Measuring Fiscal And Monetary Policies Spillovers In Asean, Thi Mai Lien Dau, Yuthana Sethapramote 2019 School of Development Economics, National Institute of Development Administration, Bangkok, Thailand

Measuring Fiscal And Monetary Policies Spillovers In Asean, Thi Mai Lien Dau, Yuthana Sethapramote

DLSU Business & Economics Review

This paper aims to comprehensively examine fiscal and monetary policies spillovers to real GDP and inflation in ASEAN-5 countries. We examine the effects of shocks from each of the ASEAN members and advanced economies by employing the global vector autoregression (GVAR) model because it allows us to investigate this issue in a multinational system. The empirical results show several important findings. Generally, both internal and external fiscal and monetary spillovers have a significant effect on all ASEAN-5 countries, although internal monetary spillover seems to be stronger than internal fiscal spillovers. At country level, out of the five ASEAN countries, Indonesia’s …

On Implementation Delays, Marginal Costs And Price Dynamics: A Theoretical Note With Implications For The Philippines, Lawrence B. Dacuycuy, Mariel Monica Sauler, Dickson Lim 2019 De La Salle University

On Implementation Delays, Marginal Costs And Price Dynamics: A Theoretical Note With Implications For The Philippines, Lawrence B. Dacuycuy, Mariel Monica Sauler, Dickson Lim

DLSU Business & Economics Review

It has been known that longer implementation delays in public investments result in sluggish accumulation of public capital. In models in which public capital determines firm productivity, the longer the duration of implementation delays, the

higher the marginal costs which, in a New Keynesian economy means higher price markups. Consequently, higher mark- ups may increase the inflation rate, leading to an appropriate monetary policy response. Using a dynamic stochastic general

equilibrium (DSGE) model, this theoretical note focuses on the relationships among government investments, firm pricing policy, and monetary policy. It addresses some aspects of public investment, and through simulations, characterizes …

Regulatory Effects On Traditional Financial Systems Versus Blockchain And Emerging Financial Systems, Samuel Edwin Addo Baidoo 2019 Walden University

Regulatory Effects On Traditional Financial Systems Versus Blockchain And Emerging Financial Systems, Samuel Edwin Addo Baidoo

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The expansion of the Internet led to disruptive business and consumer processes, as existing regulations do not cover the scope and scale of emerging financial technologies. Using organization economic theory as the foundation, the purpose of this correlational study was to examine and compare the financial regulatory impact on traditional and emerging financial systems across a variety of factors including organizational type, predicted users, operational concerns, reasons for cost increases, and changes in business practices as a result of the regulatory environment. Data were collected through a survey of 227 adult Americans who engage in the financial sector and are …

The objective of this paper is to analyze the relationship between the ownership level of managers and the risk averse behavior of the firm. We measure the ownership level of the managers by the ratio of their ownership of the company relative to their total wealth for a sample of 69 individuals from the Forbes 400 list of the wealthiest individuals in the world for the period from 2001-11 using an unbalanced panel data analysis. The dependent variable is the Altman Z-score of each firm and we further test these relationships using financial leverage. The independent variables are delta and …

When Fund Management Skill Is More Valuable?, Feng Dong, John A. Doukas 2019 Old Dominion University

When Fund Management Skill Is More Valuable?, Feng Dong, John A. Doukas

Finance Faculty Publications

Does fund management skill allow managers to identify mispriced securities more accurately and thereby make better portfolio choices resulting in superior fund performance when noise trading- a natural setting to detect skill - is more prevalent? We find skilled-fund managers with superior past performance to generate persistent excess risk-adjusted returns and experience significant capital inflows, especially in high sentiment times, high stock dispersion and economic expansion states when price signals are noisier. This pattern persists after we control for lucky bias, using the "false discovery rate" approach, which permits to disentangle manager "skill" from "luck".
