Keeping Love Alive: Communication Modes, Relational Satisfaction And Communication Satisfaction In Long-Distance Dating Relationships, Taylor Hillard

Couples in long-distance dating relationships (LDDRs) must determine how to best communicate with one another to maintain their relationship without the advantage of being geographically close. Fortunately, with advances in technology, individuals in LDDRs have multiple options regarding how they choose to communicate with their relational partner. These individuals may utilize more traditional modes, such as letter writing or phone calls, or more modern modes, such as text messaging or social media. However, not all of these communication modes may allow for satisfying communication or communication that benefits the relationship. At ALECC’s biennial gathering at Queen’s University in June 2016, participants came together to explore the possibilities of “making common causes” from a host of angles, yet all were anchored in an acknowledgement of the diverse more-than-human relationships that make up our common worlds. Beth Crisler Wins 2017 Shambarger Competition For Singers At Ouachita, Kacy Earnest Spears, Ouachita News Bureau

– Beth Crisler, a soprano and senior vocal performance major from Bella Vista, Ark., won first place in Ouachita Baptist University’s recent Mary Shambarger Competition for Singers. She was one of five students were recognized for their performances in the annual competition.

Crisler earned first place and $500 for her performance of Gian-Carlo Menotti’s “To this we’ve come” from The Consul. Crisler is a student of John Alec Briggs and has been working with him from the start of the fall semester on this piece.

Ed Garvey died this week at age 76. For many younger NFL fans his name will mean little. Once called “The Karl Marx of the Shower Stall,” Garvey was one of the most significant figures in the history of the National Football League in the 1970s and early ‘80s. Garvey was appointed legal counsel to the National Football League Players Association in 1970 and became Executive Director in 1971, a position he held until 1983. Director’S Last Show Breaks Cedarville Box Office Record, Mark D. Weinstein

Cedarville University’s production of “The Music Man,” which ran February 2–12, broke the record for most tickets sold for a Cedarville production. The show sold nearly 4,000 tickets – 179 more than Cedarville’s last box office champion, “Fiddler on the Roof,” performed winter 2015.
