Social Media: How Players And Athletic Organizations Can Use Social Media Technology For Positive Brand Awareness, Nina D. Bell

Player transgressions and sponsorships were examined lightly using rhetorical and secondary research to consider the impact social media technology has had on sports marketing and communications. In discussing the impact, I was able to uncover the negative and positive implications for social media‟s involvement in sports, and how understanding it is imperative for individuals looking to become professionals in athletics. From my research, I will create a presentation which will assist professional athletes and their organization in creating a positive brand image using social media technology.

Social Goals In Urban Physical Education: Relationships With Effort And Disruptive Behavior, Alex C. Garn, Nate Mccaughtry, Bo Shen, Jeffrey J. Martin, Mariane Fahlman

Kinesiology, Health and Sport Studies

This study investigated the relationships among four distinct types of social goals, effort, and disruptive behavior in urban physical education. Social responsibility, affiliation, recognition, status goals, along with effort and disruptive behavior in physical education were reported by high school physical education students (N = 314) from three urban schools. Findings from correlation and structural equa- tion modeling analyses revealed that social responsibility goals had a positive relationship with effort and an inverse relationship with disruptive behavior. The genesis of this study emerges from an interest in exploring the potential of sport as a means of advancement of the individual and by extension society. Lerner (2004) for example highlights the importance of adolescent development when he ascertains that “the future of civil society in the world rests on the promotion of positive development and a commitment to positive and socially just community contributions by the young”. It was approximately 12:45 a.m. in London when Mark Teixeira’s bases loaded blast reached the seats in The Can, and the Yankees added four runs to the one they were gifted in the first inning. It was 5-0. David Price had very little, and I turned off my computer and went to bed. At the time the Braves were 1-1 with Philadelphia, the Red Sox and O’s were scoreless and that seemed not to matter at that point. The Cardinals and Astros had not yet begun.
