The present study examined patterns in trans individuals’ multiple identities and mental health outcomes. Cluster 1 (socioeconomic and racial privilege; n = 239) was characterized by individuals who identified as trans women or crossdressers, lesbian, bisexual, or questioning; had associates degrees; reported household incomes of $60,000 or more a year; and were non-Latino White. Cluster 2 (educational privilege; n = 191) was characterized by individuals who identified as trans men or genderqueer, gay, or queer; had a bachelor’s degree; reported household incomes of $10,000 or less a year; and were people of color. Exploring Self-Regulation Of More Or Less Expert College-Age Video Game Players: A Sequential Explanatory Design, Meryem Yilmaz Soylu, Roger H. Bruning

This study examined differences in self-regulation among college-age expert, moderately expert, and non-expert video game players in playing video games for fun. Winnie's model of self-regulation (Winne, 2001) guided the study. The main assumption of this study was that expert video game players used more processes of self-regulation than the less-expert players. We surveyed 143 college students about their game playing frequency, habits, and use of self-regulation. Data analysis indicated that while playing recreational video games, expert gamers self-regulated more than moderately expert and non-expert players and moderately expert players used more processes of self-regulation than non-experts. Abnormal reward-related responses in the nucleus accumbens (NAcc) have been reported for major depressive disorder (MDD) patients. However, variability exists in the reported results, which could be due to heterogeneity in neuropathology of depression. To parse the heterogeneity of MDD we investigated variation of NAcc responses to gain and loss anticipations using fMRI. We found NAcc responses to monetary gain and loss were significantly variable across subjects in both MDD and healthy control (HC) groups. Preschool Teacher's Use Of Praise: Comparing General, At-Risk, And Special Education Classrooms, Jessica Berlinghof

The current study examined six preschool teachers' natural use of praise. Two of the teachers taught in general education classrooms, two taught in at-risk classrooms, and two taught in special education classrooms. Over 10 hours (approximately 100 minutes in each classroom) of direct behavioral observation of teachers' use of praise were conducted across classrooms. Results did not indicate that teachers' use of praise was statistically different based on classroom type (i.e., general, at-risk, and special education). However, special education teachers used twice as many praise statements compared to teachers in general education and at-risk classrooms and the effect sizes for …

The present study examined the relationship between diabetic mellitus management, stress, depression, social relationship, and academic achievement in children ages 10 to 18. Diabetic mellitus is an autoimmune disease where the body's immune system attacks insulin-producing cells in the pancreas (Type 1), or the body does not produce enough insulin or insulin resistance occurs (Type 2). Although some might say adding this would worsen the issue, it would teach students and faculty to be more accepting of these topics, and more accepting of LGBTQ+ people. Schools in Lincoln Public Schools and Omaha Public Schools have both been challenged with this topic recently, and reacted to them in different ways. An exploratory, observation-based study sought to strengthen understanding of the development of social communication skills that facilitate academic success, particularly within general education settings. Sixteen middle and high school students with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), all of whom participated in at least one period per day of core academic instruction in a general education classroom, were observed over a period of one to three months each. Frequencies of five appropriate and three inappropriate social academic behaviors are described, in terms of their relative frequencies to one another, and their overall consistency over the course of observations. The current study evaluated the effectiveness of individualized math-to-mastery (MTM) interventions, selected though brief experimental analysis (BEA), at increasing math fluency skills for 3 elementary-aged females. As MTM has only been investigated as a multicomponent intervention, the present study utilized BEA to identify those specific components which led to math skills gains in the most efficient manner possible. BEA results indicated that for 2 of 3 participants only a partial MTM intervention was necessary to prompt fluency gains, while the entire intervention was the most effective for the third. Predicting academic success is an important aspect of education, but is of particular interest for educators and admissions officers at independent schools. This study, conducted using archival data at an independent school in the Philadelphia suburbs, used hierarchical regression analysis to determine whether cognitive measures could predict student GPA, whether measures of noncognitive traits (Grit, Conscientiousness, Openness, and Emotional Intelligence) could improve the prediction of GPA, and whether cognitive skills predict to any of the noncognitive traits. In the school setting, well-developed executive functions are associated with the metacognitive skills important for learning and are positively correlated with measures of student achievement across children and adolescents; however, development of executive skills has been shown to be inconsistent with chronological age among children. In this dissertation, the author conducted a survey study of practicing school psychologists on their knowledge of, familiarity with, and use of treatment integrity in school-based interventions. A total of 195 self-identified practicing school psychologists provided information on their measurement and evaluation of treatment integrity on school-based intervention via a one-on-one consultation with teacher and/or parents and within a school-based problem-solving team. Objective: A profile of adolescent alcohol use for China that specified gender, school type and a consistent definition of alcohol use.

Method: A total of 1,646 papers were identified in the Chinese- and English-language literature published 2007–2015 that reported Chinese adolescent drinking rates. Selection criteria were established a priori. Thirty-two papers met all the selection criteria. Five papers were eliminated because they were found to be duplicate reports of the same data.
