The Ontology Of Scholar-Administrators: Empirical Inferences From Five Senior Administrators Who Published, Aaron Coe, Ravi Chinta

The Qualitative Report

The purpose of this study was to fill a gap in existing literature on scholar-administrators and understand the lived experience of scholar-administrators who published. Using an interpretative phenomenological approach to extract themes from detailed case studies of five senior academic administrators who have published, the researchers’ empirical inferences from the five detailed case histories reveal the challenges and rewards of producing scholarship as a scholar-administrator. Their findings show that the administrators were more connected to the people within and outside the university, their own field of practice, and with the university. The impact of scholarship on scholar-administrators goes beyond publications. …

This thesis uses a content analysis in order to answer the question of how incarceration is framed by popular reality and fictional dramas focused on prisons. Employing a coding system to analyze the episodes of two popular televisions show about incarceration, this study is concerned with how and what content is being presented to the audience and how it is framed. Using Oz and Lock-up as text, the study used Entman’s (1993) four processes of framing communication. Purpose. It was the purpose of this Delphi study to discover what the best practices are for implementing telephone, virtual, face-to-face, and referral prospecting, as reported by an expert panel of Army Recruiters when targeting 17-24 year olds.

Methodology. This Policy Delphi study was accomplished in three sequential rounds, with 19 homogeneous expert participants whose mode of operation is remote, anonymous, and computerized. The rounds explored a complex recruiting process through the lens of expert Army Recruiters. This study analyzed intercultural communication and cross-cultural hurdles between a multinational mining company, “the Company,” and the indigenous Western Shoshone community in Northern Nevada. Standpoint theory, as presented by Wood (2004), was the framework used to analyze the engagement methods utilized by the Company and the local tribal organizations to identify communication barriers between the two groups. The purpose of this thematic, qualitative, phenomenological study was to discover and describe the lived experiences of exemplar Municipal Police Chiefs in the use of six domains of conflict transformation; collaboration, communication, emotional intelligence, ethics, process, and problem solving, in order to find breakthrough results and transform conflict. This study was accomplished through the lived experiences, perceptions and interpretations of exemplar Municipal Police Chiefs, and through these experiences, put forward the commonalities, patterns of behavior, or repetitive themes that are used to find common ground and produce breakthrough results. Inside Jokes: A Sensemaking Resource For Understanding Sarcasm And Teasing In The Workplace, Tara Gray Anderson

Humorous exchanges using sarcasm and teasing can be found in many workplaces despite the fact that they are often considered inappropriate. This study looked at what causes people to participate in sensemaking after engaging in these types of humor and examined how people make sense of sarcasm and teasing. The framework for this study was Sherif’s Social Judgment Theory (SJT) (1969) and Sensemaking (1995). Twenty people were interviewed about their last workplace exchange involving these types of humor and their answers were recorded and analyzed. The results showed that recipients, through sensemaking, assimilated jokes that were insulting and not humorous. …
