Studies On The Effect Of The Basal Diets In Pure Strain Rats I. Inbred Wistar Furth Rats, Subhkij Angsubhakorn, Makoto Miyamoto, Natth Bhamarapravati
The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine
This experiment was designed to study the semisynthetic basal diets in relation to the anatomical and physiological evaluations of the pure strain rats. The weanling age of fourty male and female Wistar Furth rats were used. The diets T, TJ, J and a commercial chow pellets had been fed to four separated groups for three months. In all groups, the growing rates of male rats were increased more rapidly than that of females. The commercial chow pellet group increased in body weigth more than Diet TJ, T and J groupe. the levels of blood sugar of all groups were not …
Histochemical Studies Of The Protein -Bound Thiol And Disulfide Groups In Piscian And Cephalopod Retina, Soomboon Srungboonmee
Histochemical Studies Of The Protein -Bound Thiol And Disulfide Groups In Piscian And Cephalopod Retina, Soomboon Srungboonmee
The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine
In comparative histochemical survey on the retinas of ten piscian species, paraffin sections were stained for cysteinyl thiol and cystinyl disulfide groups as well as for the basic groups on proteins. The routine hematoxylin-eosin staining was used for identification and orientation purposes. The piscian retinas were found for the first time to have the same pattern of thiol distribution reported in the literatues for other vertebrate classes. This is both very high density and relative concentration of protein thiol groups in the outer segments of the photoreceptors (rods and cones). The significant levels are found in the photoreceptor inner segments …

The Ecology Of Stray Dogs: A Study Of Free-Ranging Urban Animals, Alan M. Beck
The Ecology Of Stray Dogs: A Study Of Free-Ranging Urban Animals, Alan M. Beck
Purdue University Press Books
This readable contribution should be in the hands of any city or state agency dealing with dog problems or with public health problems. The book should also be of considerable interest to all ecologists, behaviorists, and biologists. This is a unique book in which the ecologist's methods are applied to understanding and possibly solving one of our urban problems. This fascinating small monograph is the work of a man who-armed with camera, tape recorder and thermometer and driving not a Land-Rover but a used sedan-studied free-ranging dogs among the bricks of Baltimore.

Ascaridia Columbae In Dove, Somsal Borvonsin, Cherdchai Ratanasethakul
The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine
Nine doves were found dead in the cage. Diarrhea, the exclusive clinical symptom was noticed. A postmortem examination suggested that the cause of death was the obstruction in the lumen of intestinal tract by Ascaridia columbae.
Usceptibility Of Aedes Aegypti And Anopheles Stephensi To Dirofilaria Immitis, Pohchai Ganasuta
Usceptibility Of Aedes Aegypti And Anopheles Stephensi To Dirofilaria Immitis, Pohchai Ganasuta
The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine
1) Ac. aegypti was the most susceptible to D. immitis among 5 species of mosquitoes used in this study. Complete development of D. immitis was not achieved in one species tested - Armi geres subalbatus. 2) Older Ae. aegypti were more susceptible to D. immitis than the youn-ger mosquitoes, while older An. stephensi were less susceptible than yonnger mosquitoes. 3) The most optimum temperature of larvae in mosquitoes was 27°C, but at 31°C mosquitoes developed longer larvae in a shorter period of time than they did at two low temperatures. Beyond that, larvae developed very well in An. stephensi at …

A Case Of Embryonal Nephroma In Dove, Cherdchai Ratanasethakul, Sonsal Borronsin
The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine
A case of embryonal nephroma in a two-year-old female dove was reported. The tumor originated on the left kidney, measured 2x1x0.5 cm. and weighed 0.70 gm. Tubular-like and glomerular-like structures, tubular cysts and mucin were noted on histological sections.

Transmembrane Transport Of Water And Electrolytes In Turtle Urinary Bladder, Taweesuk Buranavitayawuti
Transmembrane Transport Of Water And Electrolytes In Turtle Urinary Bladder, Taweesuk Buranavitayawuti
The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine
Experiments were designed to determine the nature of the electrical potential difference as well as transport of water and electrolytes across the turtle urinary bladder Damonia subtri juga. In sodium chloride Ringer's solution a transbladder potential difference between 30-90 mv, was observed the mucosal side was negative with respect to the serosal side. A net flux of acid occurred in the opposite direction. An active chloride pump was believed to exist along with the sodium pump and hydrogen pump, thereby contributing to the potential difference observed across the layer of epithelial cells. This is because: 1) Chloride-free Ringer's solution increased …

The Effects Of Crowding On The Diurnal Ascorbic Acid Levels Of Albino Rats, Mary Jo Barr
The Effects Of Crowding On The Diurnal Ascorbic Acid Levels Of Albino Rats, Mary Jo Barr
Masters Theses
The adrenal physiology of the albino rat was studied through the measurement of adrenal ascorbic acid levels. A cyclic phenomenon was observed which follows the diel periodicity of the animal. Ascorbic acid values were found to be characteristically higher in males than in females. A similar difference was also seen in populations divided into young animals (body weight less than 175 grams) and old animals (body weight greater than 175 grams). Crowding, induced by manipulating the area of cage space per gram of body weight, was observed to be a definite stressor and caused the adrenal ascorbic acid levels to …
The Effects Of Acute Stress On Adrenal Ascorbic Acid Levels, Robert Joseph Collier
The Effects Of Acute Stress On Adrenal Ascorbic Acid Levels, Robert Joseph Collier
Masters Theses
The diurnal rhythm of adrenal ascorbic acid (DAR) displays an inverse relationship to the diurnal rhythm of circulating levels of plasma corticosteroids. Alloxan monohydrate, 175 mg/kg body weight was given subcutaneously to albino rats to determine the effect of the diabetic state on the DAR. A total of 200 female albino rats were divided into two study groups. Study Group I was composed of 150 animals divided into populations of 15, each including 3 controls. Study Group II was composed of populations of 5, each group containing all controls or all alloxinated rats. The populations of 15 were sacrificed at …
Seasonal Variation In The Tubular And Interstitial Areas Of The Testes In Sternotherus Odoratus L., Robert Hans Spaet
Seasonal Variation In The Tubular And Interstitial Areas Of The Testes In Sternotherus Odoratus L., Robert Hans Spaet
Masters Theses
Seasonal changes within the tubular and interstitial areas of the testes in Sternotherus odoratus are investigated, histologically and histochemically. Forty specimens were collected in Illinois, Tennessee and Louisiana between May, 1969 and August, 1972.
Many of the histological and macroscopic observations made by Risley (1938) on the spermatogenic cycle of S. odoratus in Michigan are confirmed. Contrary to his findings, fluctuations in interstitial cell nuclear diameters are observed during spermatogenesis. Greatest diameters coincide with what Risley has considered " . . . period of most active breeding." Sertoli cell nuclear diameters undergo similar fluctuations being greatest during spring breeding and …
