This research was carried out on mirror carps ( Cyprinus carpio, L.,1758) taken from Seyhan Dam Lake and Seyhan River between January and October 1996 to determine some blood parameters. Erythrocyte, leucocyte count, leucocyte cell formulas, total serum protein and serum glucose values of mirror Carps ( Cyprinus carpio, L.,1758 ) caught from Seyhan Dam Lake and Seyhan River were also compared statistically. Different values were recorded in erythrocyte and serum protein amounts for both environments (P0.05).

This study was carried out to investigate the fattening performance, slaughter and carcass characteristics of White Karaman and Chios x White Karaman (F_1 ) crossbred lambs. The data for the study were obtained from 11 purebred and 12 (6 from each genotype) ram lambs for determination of slaughter and carcass characteristics. Lambs were fed alfalfa hay and concentrates ad libitum in the fattening period. This study was conducted in pregnant and aborted sheep to determine Toxoplasma gondiiantibodies. Blood samples were collected from a total of 154 sheep from 22 different herds during the period December 1996-January 1997 in Elazig and vicinity. Of these 154 sheep, 56 were pregnant, 57 aborted in the previous year and the remaining 41 sheep aborted within the period of the study. Sera obtained properly from these blood samples were examined by Sabine-Feldman (SF) test. The objective of this study was to determine blood plasma and hair copper levels in clinicially healthy Swiss Brown and Holstein cows. This study was performed on 50 cows, 3-6 years old. Blood and hair samples were collected in December, March, June and September. Mean plasma copper levels in December, March, June and September were 68.23±2.62, 44.58±1.78, 52.79±2.15 and 52.76±2.59 mg/dl respectively. Also mean hair copper levels were 5.78±0.22, 5.45±0.15, 5.25±0.11 and 5.77±0.15 ppm respectively. Enterotoxaemia Incidence In Small Ruminants In Elazığ And The Surrounding Provinces In 1994-1998, Canan Özcan, Meti̇n Gürçay

132 intestine specimens belonging to small ruminants with suspected enterotoxaemia were sent to the Elazig Veterinary Control and Research Institute from Elazığ and the surrounding provinces in 1994-1998. In bacteriological examinations, it was found that 51 of the 132 specimens were positive and 81 negative. The toxin-neutralisation test was applied for diagnosis. The 51 enterotoxaemia cases were identified as 28 C.welchii Type D, 16 C.welchii Type C, 7 C.welchii Type A.

This reseacrh was carried out fron November 1995 to October 1997 in Kazova Kaz Lake of tokat province. In this period, a total of 759 Common carp ( Cyprinus carpio L., 1758) were examined. The aim of this study was to determine some reproduction features of the common carp i.e. the spawning season, fecundity, maturity age and sex ratio. The spawning took place from March to April. Both the males and females were found to attain maturity when two years old.

In this study, has been carried out to investigate some growth features of the red mullet ( Mullus barbatusLinnaeus, 1758) which is the important commercially species of the North Aegean Sea. Have been examined: Sex distrubution, growth in lenght and weight,condition factor, diet regimes and spawning period. Caprine paratuberculosis (Johne's disease) was diagnosed according to pathomorphological findings in a 5-year-old indigenous female hairy goat in ElazİÛ. Diagnosis was confirmed by demonstration of Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (M.a. paratuberculosis) in the intestinal smears and tissue sections stained with the Ziehl-Neelsen (ZN) method, and also detection of specific M.a. paratuberculosis DNA by the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR).

The effects of 0%, 10%, 20% and 30% dried poultry excreta supplementation on rumen fermentation and blood parameters in Akkaraman lambs were investigated in the control group, group I, group II and group III respectively. Twenty-six Akkaraman lambs, 5.5-6 months-old, weighing 30 kg were used. They were fed in four groups. A feeding trial was conducted to assess the effects of supplementing the diets of commercial-size rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) with red pepper as a natural carotenoid source and synthetic astaxanthin. Diets without carotenoid supplemented (control) and containing 3% or 6% red pepper and 0.05% "Carophyll Pink 8%" were given to groups 1-4, respectively. Rainbow trout, with weight of groups between 470 and 483 g, were fed four different diets for 45 days. In this study, a total of 100 ground beef samples purchased at different butchers' shops and supermarkets in Ankara including 50 samples obtained from butchers' shops and 50 samples obtained from supermarkets, were analysed for the presence of motile Aeromonas species. According to the analysis, motile Aeromonas spp. were found in 73 % (73/100) of ground beef samples. Aeromonas spp. were isolated from 33 samples (66 %) obtained from butchers' shops, and 40 samples (80 %) obtained from supermarkets. In this study, a total of 365 cattle (234 male, 131 female) slaughtered in different localities in Thrace (The European part of Turkey) were examined for hypodermosis between January and May of 1997. Hypoderma bovis, H. lineatum and unidentified 2nd instar larvae were found in the skin and subcutaneous tissue of the back region of the animals. The prevalence rate and intensity of infestation were 3.56% and 10.23 respectively.

Modified tryptic soy broth, lauryl sulfate tryptose broth, modified EC broth, sorbitol MacConkey agar and Fluorocult E. coli O157 agar were tested for the recovery of 3 strains of Escherichia coliO157:H7 against E. colitype 1 and Citrobacter freundii as common competitive microflora of raw meat products. Two-stepped trials showed that modified EC broth and lauryl sulfate tryptose broth were superior to modified tryptic soy broth as selective enrichment media while sorbitol MacConkey agar was clearly better than Fluorocult E. coli O157 agar as a selective agar medium. Protein bands of hydatid fluids of sheep liver were determined by SDS-PAGE and Western blotting, and this was followed by the determination of specific bands of hydatid cysts for sheep and humans. For diagnostic purposes, 30 positive and 20 negative sheep sera, 1 commercially obtained non-infected sheep serum, and 10 posi- tive and 10 negative human sera were used in this experiment. According to our results, the specific protein band for hydatid dis- ease in sheep was determined as 116 kDa, while the specific protein bands for hydatid disease in humans were determined as 68 and 8 kDa. A Mouse Model For Evaluating The Induction Of Liver Glucose-6- Phosphate Dehydrogenase By Halothane, Ergül Belge Kurutaş, İlhan Tuncer

The effect of halothane anesthesia in different doses and a period of two weeks on glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PDH) activity of mouse liver were investigated. The mean and SD of G6PDH for liver of normal mice were 0.036±0.017 U/mg protein and 1.756±0.814 U/g liver, respectively. Although there was histopathological damage in the liver, liver weights in treated mice increased significantly compared to control animals. Increasing the dosage of halothane inhalation induced liver G6PDH enzyme activity (U/g liver) by 84%, 42% and 4%, showing an inverse relation with the dose of halothane (0.25, 0.50, 1.00 cc twice daily for two weeks). Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

In this study, the monthly variation in the blood glucose level of Capoeta capoeta capoeta caught from Aras between August 1995 and June 1996 was determined. The average blood glucose level was determined to be 112.04±5.19 mg/dl in males and 106.32±9.68 mg/dl in females and 110.06±4.19 mg/dl in the population. The blood glucose level was highest (141.07±13.67 mg/dl) in April, and lowest (69.14±9.75 mg/dl) in September. It was deter- mined that the level of blood glucose was related to temperature and reproduction.

The present study was designed to determine the effects of lighting regimes on the growth performances and carcass characteristics of Bronze turkeys reared in intensive conditions. Turkeys were reared under three lighting regimes (group 1, 12 h; group 2, 18 h; and group 3, 23 h.). In the experiment, the live weights of the turkeys (male+female) in groups 1, 2 and 3 were found to be 4578±142, 4630±131 and 4942±139 g respectively at the end of a 16-week period. Toxoplasma gondii pseudocysts in cattle are sources of infection for humans. Therefore, cattle toxoplasmosis is a very important factor in public health. The aim of the present study was to determine the seroprevalence of cattle toxoplasmosis. A total of 122 cattle from different age groups were selected in Elazığ and environs. Blood samples were taken and sera were collected. Serum samples were kept at -20^0 C until further examination. The values of toxoplasmosis seroprevalence were determined by SF test for anti-Toxoplasma gondii antibodies. Antibodies were detected in 86 out of 122 cattle sera (70.49%).
