Bacterial infections are common in zoo birds. They may be caused by pathogenic bacteria or opportunistic bacteria due to trauma or stress-induced immune compromise. Improper use of antibiotics contributes to the development of resistant bacteria, making treatment complicated or ineffective. However, comprehensive clinical investigations into bacterial prevalence and antibiotic susceptibility in zoo-captive birds remain limited. In this study, the relationship between the Growth Differentiation Factor-9 (GDF9) gene polymorphism and birth weight, as well as weights on days 30, 60, 90, was investigated in Akkaraman lambs, one of the indigenous sheep breeds of Türkiye. For this purpose, a total of 314 lambs were genotyped by PCR-RFLP method for the single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) c.260G>A in the GDF9 gene. While GG and GA genotypes were observed in the studied breed, the AA genotype was not observed. The results showed that Akkaraman lambs were in Hardy–Weinberg (H–W) equilibrium for the GDF9-c.260G>A polymorphism (p < 0.05). In this study, a significant association was observed between GDF9-HhaI polymorphism and 30th day weight and 60th day weight in Akkaraman lambs. When the animals were analyzed according to birth type, it was observed that this factor was associated with birth weight, as well as weights on days 30, 60, and 90. The phylum Acanthocephala contains approximately 1300 acanthocephalan species. So far, only nine acanthocephalan species of wild birds have been reported in Türkiye. Selenium (Se) plays a vital role in improving reproductive health in ruminants. This study evaluated the impact of Se supplementation on testicular health in young male goats. Twenty goats (2–3 months old, 8.5–10 kg) were randomly assigned to two groups: Control (C, n=10) receiving a basal diet (0.037 mg Se/kg) and Se-Yeast (SY, n=10) supplemented with 0.3 mg Se/kg diet. The trial lasted eight weeks. Results showed that testis weight was significantly higher in the SY group (26.8 ± 2.5 g) compared to C (22.4 ± 2.1 g, p < 0.05). Testis length, width, and circumference also increased significantly in SY goats (4.5 ± 0.3 cm, 2.9 ± 0.2 cm, and 7.4 ± 0.4 cm, respectively) compared to control (3.9 ± 0.4 cm, 2.5 ± 0.3 cm, and 6.7 ± 0.5 cm; p < 0.05). Serum cholesterol was higher in SY (135.27 ± 2.34 mg/dl) than in C (121.15 ± 8.74 mg/dl, p = 0.02), while triglycerides were lower (95.99 ± 1.37 vs. 114.38 ± 1.84 mg/dl, p = 0.0003). HDL increased (51.97 ± 2.10 vs. 45.02 ± 1.32 mg/dl, p = 0.03), and LDL decreased (54.23 ± 1.81 vs. 61.27 ± 1.56 mg/dl, p = 0.02) in SY group. Total serum protein rose significantly (8.14 ± 0.79 vs. 5.25 ± 0.06 mg/dl, p = 0.03), as did testosterone levels (1.95 ± 0.08 vs. 1.43 ± 0.06 ng/ml, p = 0.002). In conclusion, selenium supplementation significantly improved testicular morphology, lipid profile, protein levels, and testosterone, indicating enhanced reproductive health in goats.

In this study, we retrospectively isolated and characterized IAVs (n=8) from oropharyngeal and cloacal swab samples of free-grazing ducks collected during December 2018 to December 2021, by using egg inoculation and whole-genome sequencing. The IAVs could be subtyped as IAV-H4N2 (n = 3) and IAV-H4N8 (n = 5) using real-time RT-PCR assays. Genetic and phylogenetic analyses revealed that all eight genes of Thai IAV-H4 belong to the Avian Eurasian lineage. A total of 768 nasal swabs were obtained from pigs at the municipal slaughterhouses in five provinces including Phayao (n=202), Nan (n=190), Chiang Rai (180), Chiang Mai (n=130), and Mae Hong Son (n=66) in 2018-2019. This study was conducted to determine the risk factors associated with nitrate/nitrite poisoning in cattle in the Burdur region. Feed and water samples were collected from 10 different farms randomly selected from 9 districts. A total of 33 feed samples, 13 water samples, 21 rumen contents, and 20 blood samples were collected for analysis. Nitrate and nitrite levels in feed, drinking water, and rumen fluid, as well as methemoglobin levels in blood samples, were determined using a spectrophotometric method. The two primary challenges in developing vaccines against swine influenza A virus (IAV-S) are the continuous viral evolution and vaccine-associated enhanced respiratory disease (VAERD). Current vaccine strategies share a common limitation: the significant time required for licensing updated vaccines. Moreover, the strain selection for vaccine updates depends entirely on predictions, raising the risk that chosen strains may not match circulating viruses. This case report presents the use of ultrasound-guided sciatic and femoral nerve blocks as an alternative analgesic technique for perioperative pain control in a Thai crossbreed dog undergoing left tibial plateau leveling osteotomy (TPLO). The orthopedic examination revealed a 4/5 left hindlimb lameness score, with positive results on both the tibial compression test (TCT) and cranial drawer test (CDT). Radiographic evaluation showed the absence of a fat pad sign and osteophyte formation around the left stifle joint. A definitive diagnosis of left cranial cruciate ligament rupture (CCLR) was made.
