Controlled Environment Broiler Houses In Western Australia, D F. Hessels Jan 1967

Controlled Environment Broiler Houses In Western Australia, D F. Hessels

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4

The three main features which contribute to the better returns from controlled environment broiler housing are higher density, better conversion and a reduction in labour.

The higher initial cost of housing and higher running costs are more than covered by these three advantages.

Effects Of Mixing Procedure Upon Uniformity Of Fibre Reinforced Concrete, Donald E. Nortrup Jan 1967

Effects Of Mixing Procedure Upon Uniformity Of Fibre Reinforced Concrete, Donald E. Nortrup

Masters Theses

"This thesis describes the effects of several methods of introducing wire fibres into a concrete mix upon the uniformity of wire fibre reinforced concrete. Various mechanical and manual methods of introducing the fibres were used and comparisons of the methods were based upon variability in splitting tensile strength and the quantitative distribution of the fibres as determined by visual inspection of sawed cylinders. Test results show that the tensile strength of concrete is increased appreciably by the inclusion of steel wire fibres in the mix and the uniformity of strength is similar to that of unreinforced concrete. The methods of …

Stress Analysis Of A Wall Footing Subjected To External Vertical Loads And Overturning Moments By The Finite Element Method, Adil Godiwalla Jan 1967

Stress Analysis Of A Wall Footing Subjected To External Vertical Loads And Overturning Moments By The Finite Element Method, Adil Godiwalla

Masters Theses

"This investigation pertains to the stress analysis by the finite element method of a wall footing subjected to external vertical loads and external overturning moments. This problem has been reduced to a two-dimensional stress analysis problem by taking a unit length of the wall. A rectangular plate - element is used throughout this investigation. The development of the matrix equations is shown and the solution is performed by digital computer. Stresses in the horizontal direction show essentially linear variation which is in agreement with simple structural theory, while stresses in the vertical direction show severe perturbation near the column load. …

Report On The Floods Of June 1965: South Platte River, Basin, Colorado And Nebraska Jan 1967

Report On The Floods Of June 1965: South Platte River, Basin, Colorado And Nebraska

United States Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District

This final report on the floods of June 1965 in the South Platte River Basin in Colorado and Nebraska is made in compliance with paragraph 172.80 of EM 500-1-1. A previous report was submitted to the Chief of Engineers on 10 August 1965 in response to a request from a subcommittee of the House Public Works Committee, entitled, "The Colorado and Kansas Floods of June 1965 - Report of the Special Subcommittee to Inspect Flooded Areas in Colorado and Kansas to the Committee on Public Works, House of Representatives, June 1965."

This report provides a more extensive record of the …

Gap-Graded Gravel For Asphaltic Paving Mixtures, Ernest Harrington Martin Jan 1967

Gap-Graded Gravel For Asphaltic Paving Mixtures, Ernest Harrington Martin

Masters Theses

"The objective of this investigation was to determine if naturally occurring gap-graded gravel can produce asphaltic mixtures meeting minimum requirements for satisfactory pavement behavior.

Ten gap-graded mixes were blended by eliminating certain intermediate sized fractions or combination of fractions from the gradation of a control mix. The weight of the fractions eliminated was distributed to either the coarser or finer aggregate fractions.

All specimens were prepared and tested in strict accordance with procedures set forth in ASTM Designation D1559, "Resistance to Plastic Flow of Bituminous Mixtures Using Marshall Apparatus."

The physical properties compared and analyzed were (1) unit weight, (2) …

The Recovery And Characterization Of Organic Micropollutants From Missouri Subsurface Waters, John Warren Smith Jan 1967

The Recovery And Characterization Of Organic Micropollutants From Missouri Subsurface Waters, John Warren Smith

Masters Theses

"The main objectives of this investigation were the recovery and partial characterization of organic micropollutants from Missouri subsurface waters and the evaluation of the number of filters in series required for effective removal of organic materials from water using the Carbon Adsorption Method.

The organics were recovered from a spring and two deep wells using three large capacity (1. 5 cu. ft.) activated carbon filters in series. Chloroform and ethanol were employed as primary elutants, but acetone and benzene were also investigated. Characterization was by organoleptic, chemical, and biological determinations, toxicity measurements, and solubility partitioning.

Organic materials were found in …

Geographical Characteristics Of Early Mormon Settlements, John Haws Baum Jan 1967

Geographical Characteristics Of Early Mormon Settlements, John Haws Baum

Theses and Dissertations

Considerable literature has been written about the Mormons and their settlement of the lands within the Great Basin; yet no one has produced a systematic study which analyzes the following geographical factors: What pattern of land occupancy was actually used by these early pioneers? Which physical characteristics determined the selection of a site for the Mormon village? What type of city survey pattern was instigated as towns were established along the eastern margin of the Great Basin? What was the relationship between the forts and the settlements in their lay-out patterns? As these questions were systematically analyzed new findings were …

Tests On Light Gage Steel Diaphragms, George Winter, T. V. S. R. Apparao Dec 1966

Tests On Light Gage Steel Diaphragms, George Winter, T. V. S. R. Apparao

CCFSS Library (1939 - present)

This report supplements and extends the scope of Report No. 319, ;lStructural Performance of Light Gage Steel Diaphragms", by Dr. Larry D. Luttrell. Eleven static load tests were conducted on 22 gage narrow rib roof decks to investigate the effect of length of the diaphragm, type of welding, and diaphragm material tensile properties on the shear stiffness and strength of the diaphragm. The behavior of a diaphragm under reversed load at two different levels) one at 0.4 x ultimate static load and the other at 0.6 x ultimate static load was explored by conducting five tests. The tests at a …

Annual Travel On The County Highway System Of Indiana, Harold L. Michael, Walter C. Vodrazka

Indiana Local Technical Assistance Program (LTAP) Publications

The purpose of this study was to provide factual information on the use of county highways. It was designed and conducted to provide a realistic measure of the vehicle miles of travel on county highways and some auxiliary information, such as vehicle classification and a frequency distribution of road miles as a function of traffic volume.
