A Comparison Of A Traditional Physical Educcation Program To A Movement Exploration Program Involving Junior High School Socially Maladjusted And Emotionally Disturbed Students, Edward F, Cowles

All Master's Theses

Educators have a responsibility to provide a physical education program for the socially maladjusted and emotionally disturbed. Some authorities recognize the problems and special handicaps of the socially maladjusted and emotionally disturbed students and recommend experimental variations in teaching methods from traditional methodology. A Study Of The Status And Leadership Of Girls' Athletics And The Attitudes Of Teachers Of Girls' Physical Education Toward Girls' Athletics In The State Of Idaho, Connie M. Thorngren

All Master's Theses

In 1969 a questionnaire was sent to all Idaho high schools concerning girls’ athletic programs and the attitudes of girls’ physical education teachers toward athletics. Eighty-seven percent of the questionnaires were returned, an indication of high interest in the subject area. If a parent's occupation was not on the Index the investigator subjectively decided on a rating using Duncan's Social Class Index as a guide.

A Study Designed To Establish Norms For The Marine Corps Physical Fitness Test Utilizing Somatotypes, Dean A. Blevins

All Master's Theses

The purpose of this study is to develop norms for the Marine Corps Physical Fitness Test in each somatotype classification as determined by the Heath-Carter anthropometric measurement. At the present time, norms exist only for the group as a whole which is comprised mainly of mesomorphs. This, of course, results in a great many endomorphs who score poorly, or not at all, and some ectomorphs who also do poorly. It is proposed that endomorphs, ectomorphs, and mesomorphs should each have their own norms.

This was done by implementing far reaching and forward looking ideas. Of Course, there were many times during the course of the departmental history when miscalculations were made; but in general, they were for the best.

The program now encompases three campus-wide leagues with some thirty to sixty teams, depending upon the sport.

Forty-one players representing four teams in the Texas League volunteered for the study. The four teams represented each of the four positions in the Texas League standings at the dates their players were tested. A kinesthesiometer was designed and assembled to record the …

Player-Coach Compatibility: A Study Of The Relationship Of Interpersonal Relations Orientations To Athletic Exclusion In Junior High School Baseball Programs, Dean A. Pease

Health, Exercise, and Sports Sciences ETDs

Statement of Problem: Many students are excluded from participation in school athletic programs, and thus, from an opportunity to benefit from the educational experiences afforded. While playing ability would appear to be the most logical and common-sense criterion for the exclusion of certain students, a variety of psycho-social factors may also serve as important criteria upon which the exclusion and inclusion of athletes are based. To obtain information concerning the existence of such factors, an investigation was undertaken concerning player-coach compatibility and its role in cutting students from athletic squads.

The FIRO theory, developed by Schutz, is based on the …
