The following research project is the result of comparing and contextualizing the original non-musical and musical drafts of the original 1961 Broadway production of How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying. The intention is to detail the process of musically adapting a non-musical source, specifically the 1952 satirical text How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying: The Dastard's Guide to Fame and Fortune by businessman-turned-satirist Shepherd Mead. Public school policies that prioritize the growth and success of core academic subject areas can lead to the neglect or devaluation of other subjects, including music education. Because school administrators act as enforcers of such policies, music teachers may perceive administrators as unsupportive, which may influence these teachers’ motivation. The purpose of this study was to explore the extent to which music teachers’ perception of principal support for music education predicted their self-reported motivation for teaching music. Self-Care Practices And Burnout Experiences Of Music Therapists In A Metropolitan City, Sylvester Sroka

This thesis examined a phenomenological inquiry into the lived experiences of music therapists in a metropolitan city in the United States. During the study, five music therapists were interviewed about their self-care practices and experiences with burnout. Data included a recorded Zoom transcription of the 30–45-minute open-ended interview. The data was analyzed through Moustakas’ (1994) cluster of themes approach. Four themes emerged from the data analyses of the interviews: living/working in a metropolitan city, self-care practices, advice for entry level music therapists, and knowledge of and experience with burnout symptoms. The connection between nature and the music of Claude Debussy is unique and fascinating, with nature serving as a source of influence and inspiration for Debussy. Debussy looked upon nature with veneration and this viewpoint helped to form the musical ideals that he pursued while breaking with the traditional forms of music. When compared to other areas of musical performance, medical research on the performing arts is limited when it comes to studies on woodwind players, particularly saxophonists. The gap in research may be attributed to the circumstances surrounding selection processes and identifying subjects for study. For example, saxophonists are not salaried professionals in orchestras, which are commonly pooled for medical research. Establishing contact with saxophonists to conduct studies can prove difficult due to the wide range of genres that utilize the saxophone. Some issues may also be attributed to research methodology. While the body of Ruth Crawford Seeger’s works is not extensive, her musical legacy cannot be ignored. As a central member of the “ultramoderns,” her work influenced the next generation of American composers such as Elliot Carter. This research document examines the stylistic changes of Crawford’s music throughout her career as a composer. This research paper describes the extent piano music by East Asian composers has been incorporated in piano teaching at the college level in the United States. Included are the results of a survey of piano teachers at National Association of Schools of Music-accredited collegiate institutions; a discussion of the need for diversification of piano literature given the demographics of piano students in the United States; and several strategies to incorporate piano music by East Asian composers. The paper also includes a list of composers and resources available for obtaining piano works by East Asian composers.

This paper reports on a practice-based research project designed to create a critically edited score of Bob Weir’s Sage and Spirit for solo guitar. Since no score exists for the piece, potential performers must first go through the time-consuming process of transcription as a way to learn how it works. This may deter potential performers who are either unfamiliar with the Dead’s music or lack formal training to undertake this preliminary work. “When Will The Time Finally Come When There Will Only Be Humans”: An Unknown Letter From Beethoven To Heinrich Von Struve, Julia Ronge

Transcription, translation, and discussion of a recently discovered letter from Ludwig van Beethoven to Heinrich von Struve from 1795. In the letter, Beethoven expresses a yearning for a time when there are only humans, without distinctions of rank and class. This sentiment accords with Schiller’s ode An die Freude, which Beethoven set to music more than once.

From “Radical Blunders” To Compositional Solutions: A Form-Functional Perspective On Beethoven’S Early Eroica Continuity-Sketches, Thomas Posen

The Beethoven Journal

Beethoven’s sketches to his third symphony, the Eroica, have fascinated scholars since Nottebohm’s pioneering study of the Eroica Sketchbook in the late nineteenth century. More recently, Alan Gosman and Lewis Lockwood finished a complete transcription of the sketchbook, which has led to a resurgent interest in these sketches. In this article, I re-evaluate Beethoven’s approaches to composing the first movement of the Eroica symphony by reappraising two supposed problems with the first two exposition continuity-sketches. Contrary to prior studies, which have interpreted these reputed compositional problems as “failed experiments” or “radical blunders” (Tovey 1941, 80), I interpret them …

Classical Aboriginal culture in Australia consists of many different kinds of ceremonies, including travelling ceremonies that are often shared across linguistic and geographical boundaries. Each of these ceremonies is made up of dozens of different verses. Perhaps the most widely known travelling ceremony is one referred to in some areas as ‘Wanji-wanji’. This was known over half the country and dates back at least 170 years, as evidenced in eleven legacy recordings and fieldwork interviewing more than 100 people across the western half of Australia. The development of the concert marimba and invention of the vibraphone in the twentieth century was accompanied by a concomitant growth in repertoire for each instrument. Both belong to the core instrumentation of many new music groups, and percussionists are at times required to perform the instruments simultaneously, combining their distinct timbral personalities. However, the number of solos for the ‘marimba-vibe’ (the term I use to describe a marimba and vibraphone arranged in close proximity to each other in order to be performed by one player) without additional percussion instruments, is minimal. Robert Altman’s film Nashville (1975) generated a prodigious amount of press commentary following its release. Early on, critics praised the film, but a disappointing box office led many to assume a split between big-city liberal audiences and small-town conservative audiences. Subsequent press coverage connected this divide to both the film’s politics and its use and portrayal of country music, as political pundits, music critics, country music stars, and general audiences weighed in. Numerous music therapy models have been formulated for implementation in the field of mental healthcare. However, few have specifically focused on the features and contexts of short-term therapy in acute psychiatric settings. The purpose of this narrative review was to identify music therapy interventions utilized in short-term music therapy with acute psychiatric patients. Studies that described interventions with acute psychiatric patients in short-term music therapy were selected based on the keyword searches of computerized databases, hand searches, and authoritative texts. งานวิจัยเรื่อง กรรมวิธีการสร้างซอสามสายของครูจักรี มงคล มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษากรรมวิธีการสร้างซอสามสายและปัจจัยที่ส่งผลต่อคุณภาพเสียงซอสามสายของครูจักรี มงคล โดยใช้วิธีวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ ผลการวิจัยพบว่าครูจักรี มงคล มีชื่อเสียงในการบรรเลงซอสามสายรวมทั้งมีฝีมือในการสร้างซอสามสายโดยได้รับแรงบันดาลใจการสร้างซอสามสายจากแบบกระสวนซอสามสายของสมเด็จพระเจ้าบรมวงศ์เธอ เจ้าฟ้าบริพัตรสุขุมพันธุ์ กรมพระนครสวรรค์วรพินิต และได้รับคำแนะนำจากผู้เชี่ยวชาญด้านซอสามสายหลายท่าน เช่น ศาสตราจารย์ ดร.อุทิศ นาคสวัสดิ์ ช่างจรูญ คชแสง ซอสามสายของครูจักรี มงคล มีคุณภาพเสียงที่มีความไพเราะควบคู่กับคุณภาพของชิ้นงานที่มีความสวยงาม ละเอียด ประณีต คงทน ด้วยกรรมวิธีการสร้างจนมีเอกลักษณ์เฉพาะตน คือการทำปากช้างบน ปากช้างล่าง ที่มีสัดส่วนเป็นธรรมชาติ คล้ายลักษณะกลีบบัว การทำแกนที่เป็นโลหะสแตนเลส ซึ่งมีน้ำหนักเบาสามารถนำกระแสเสียงและทนทานได้ดีกว่าไม้เนื้อแข็ง การทำคันชักซอสามสายที่หัวคันชักสามารถหมุนปรับได้โดยใช้หางม้าซอฝรั่ง เมื่อใช้งานเสร็จสามารถลดความตึงลง และมีรูปแบบที่สวยงามมีน้ำหนักเบาเท่ากันทั้งคันชัก ปัจจัยที่ส่งผลต่อคุณภาพเสียงซอสามสายของ ครูจักรี มงคลคือการให้ความสำคัญกับความหนาบางของหนังซอขนาดกะโหลกซอสามสายใหญ่และหนา เมื่อขึ้นหนังหน้าซอแล้วจะมีมวลอากาศภายใน องศาของซอสามสายซึ่งรับแรงจากการรั้งสายและแรงกดจากหย่อง การตั้งหย่องและการติดถ่วงหน้าซึ่งมีตำแหน่งของหย่องและน้ำหนักของถ่วงหน้าที่เหมาะสม และได้พัฒนากรรมวิธีการสร้างจนมีเอกลักษณ์เฉพาะตน คือการทำปากช้างบน ปากช้างล่าง ที่มีสัดส่วนเป็นธรรมชาติ คล้ายลักษณะกลีบบัว การทำแกนซอสามสายด้วย โลหะสแตนเลส การทำคันชักซอสามสายที่หัวคันชักสามารถหมุนปรับได้โดยใช้หางม้าซอฝรั่ง เมื่อใช้งานเสร็จสามารถหย่อนความตึงลง และมีรูปแบบที่สวยงามมีน้ำหนักเบาเท่ากันทั้งคันชัก

วิทยานิพนธ์เรื่องการดำเนินทำนองซออู้เพลงเทพนิมิต สามชั้น ออกกราวนอกภาษาใน วงเครื่องสายปี่ชวาของครูจีรพล เพชรสม วัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษามูลบทที่เกี่ยวข้องกับการดำเนินทำนองของซออู้ในวงเครื่องสายปี่ชวาและการดำเนินทำนองของซออู้เพลงเทพนิมิต สามชั้น ออกกราวนอกภาษา สำหรับการบรรเลงในวงเครื่องสายปี่ชวาของครูจีรพล เพชรสม ผลการศึกษาพบว่าซออู้เป็นเครื่องดนตรีที่มีความสำคัญเป็นอย่างยิ่งในวงเครื่องสายปี่ชวา การบรรเลงซออู้ของครูจีรพล เพชรสม ในวงเครื่องสายปี่ชวาต้องใช้ทักษะขั้นสูงในการปฏิบัติ มีความรู้แตกฉาน บรรลุนิติภาวะทางดนตรี สามารถเลือกใช้สำนวนกลอนอย่างเหมาะสม สร้างสีสันให้แก่วง และสร้างปฏิสัมพันธ์ทางดนตรี ผู้บรรเลงต้องแม่นยำในทำนองหลักและมีปฏิภาณไหวพริบที่ต้องตัดสินใจและปฏิบัติรวดเร็ว เนื่องจากวงเครื่องสายปี่ชวาเป็นวงที่มีแนวในการบรรเลงเร็วผู้บรรเลงต้องมีวิธีในการผูกทำนองเพื่อให้การดำเนินทำนองของซออู้มีคุณภาพ โดดเด่น และเกิดความสมดุลในการบรรเลงรวมวง เพลงเทพนิมิต สามชั้น ออกกราวนอกภาษาของครูจีรพล เพชรสม ใช้กลวิธีในการดำเนินทำนองซออู้ได้แก่ 1. การล้วงจังหวะ 2. การย้อยจังหวะ 3. การโดดเสียง 4. การกล้ำเสียง 5. การย้ำเสียง 6. การรูดนิ้ว 7. การสะบัดนิ้ว 8. การสะบัดคันชัก 9. การพรมนิ้ว 10. การเน้นคันชัก ลักษณะดังกล่าวเป็นการดำเนินทำนองเฉพาะของครูจีรพล เพชรสมในการสร้างเสียงซออู้ที่เป็นเป็นเครื่องดนตรีเสียงทุ้มต่ำให้ปรากฏเสียงดัง ฟังชัด ไพเราะและอรรถรสในการดำเนินทำนองของซออู้ในวงเครื่องสายปี่ชวา

การแสดงขับร้องเดี่ยวระดับมหาบัณฑิตโดย โฉมวิลัย ยูฮันเงาะ : ผู้วิจัยได้คัดเลือกบทเพลงขับร้องจากอุปรากร ละครเพลง และบทเพลงประกอบภาพยนตร์ รวมทั้งสิ้น 14 เพลง โดยคำนึงถึงความน่าสนใจ ความหลากหลายของลีลา อารมณ์ ความโด่งดัง และความท้าทายของบทเพลง รวมไปถึงความหลากหลายของเนื้อหา ความแตกต่างทางด้านภาษา สีสันของบทเพลง และวิธีการสื่ออารมณ์ ผู้วิจัยได้ค้นคว้าศึกษาลงลึกทางด้านประวัติศาสตร์ความเป็นมา เนื้อเรื่อง ฉาก รวมถึงตัวละครของแต่ละบทเพลง เพื่อนำมาเปรียบเที่ยบกับชีวิตจริงของผู้วิจัยและนำไปสู่ความเข้าใจในการตีความบทเพลง รวมถึงการแสดงออกทางอารมณ์อย่างลึกซึ้ง ทั้งนี้เพื่อให้การแสดงการขับร้องในครั้งนี้สมบูรณ์แบบตามมาตรฐานระดับมหาบัณฑิต ผู้วิจัยได้วางแผนและเตรียมความพร้อมทางด้านการฝึกซ้อมตามประเภทของบทเพลงทั้ง 3 อย่างถูกต้องตามขนบธรรมเนียมจากผู้ทรงคุณวุฒิทางด้านการขับร้องและศิลปินต้นแบบหลาย ๆ ท่าน รวมถึงการเตรียมพร้อมด้านร่างกายและจิตใจเพื่อให้การฝึกซ้อมและการแสดงในวันแสดงจริงเกิดประสิทธิภาพสูงสุด ตลอดจนการเตรียมพร้อมทางด้านสถานที่และด้านอื่น ๆ ที่จะทำให้การแสดงเกิดขึ้นอย่างไม่มีจุดบกพร่อง

งานวิจัยเรื่อง กรรมวิธีการสร้างซอด้วงของเรือตรีชัยนรินทร์ แถมมีทรัพย์ (ช่างนาคร) มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษากรรมวิธีการสร้างซอด้วง และศึกษาปัจจัยที่มีผลต่อคุณภาพเสียงของซอด้วง ของช่างนาคร รวมไปถึงการเก็บข้อมูลศึกษาบริบทต่างๆ ที่เกี่ยวข้องกับซอด้วง โดยใช้ระเบียบวิธีวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ ผลการวิจัยพบว่า เมื่อปี พ.ศ. 2532 ช่างนาคร เป็นช่างที่มีความสามารถในการสร้างเครื่องดนตรีไทยทุกประเภท ได้รับการถ่ายทอดองค์ความรู้ฝีมือด้านงานช่างและการสร้างซอด้วงจากครูจรินทร์ กลิ่นบุปผา ทำให้มีประสบการณ์ทางด้านงานช่างจนสามารถเปิดโรงงานอุตสาหกรรมในการผลิตเครื่องดนตรีไทย อำเภอท่ายาง จังหวัดเพชรบุรี ในปี พ.ศ. 2548 ในระยะเริ่มต้นช่างนาครศึกษาแบบจากกระสวนซอด้วงดุริยบรรณ และได้พัฒนาสัดส่วนจนได้รูปทรงที่เป็นแบบเฉพาะของช่างนาคร โดยมีจุดประสงค์เพื่อให้นักเรียนสามารถซื้อไว้ฝึกซ้อมในราคาย่อมเยา คุณภาพเสียงตรงตามเสียงในอุดมคติของซอด้วงคือเสียงอ้อ และเสียงแก้ว ช่างนาคร ใช้ไม้ชิงชัน ไม้มะเกลือ ไม้มะริด ไม้กระพี้เขาควาย และไม้ประดู่ อุปกรณ์ที่ใช้มี 51 ชิ้น มีกรรมวิธีการสร้างทั้งหมด 8 ขั้นตอน ได้แก่ การกลึงลูกบิด การกลึงคันทวนซอด้วง การกลึงคันชักซอด้วง การกลึงกระบอกซอด้วง การขึ้นหนังหน้าซอด้วง การทำสีและเคลือบเงา การขึ้นหางม้า การประกอบซอด้วง ปัจจัยสำคัญที่มีผลต่อคุณภาพเสียงซอด้วง คือการคัดสรรวัสดุที่มีคุณภาพตั้งแต่การคัดเลือกไม้และหนังงู การกลึงกระบอกซอด้วงที่มีขนาดรูปทรงที่พอดี การกลึงรูเท้าเหยียบและการบากขอบกระบอกซอเพื่อขึ้นหนังหน้าซอด้วง ซอด้วงของช่างนาคร มีแก้วเสียง นุ่มนวล ตามเสียงซอด้วงในอุดมคติ ดังที่ผู้เชี่ยวชาญทางด้านดนตรีไทยได้ให้คำนิยามไว้

การวิจัยนี้มีจุดประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาหาความรู้ วิเคราะห์ ตีความบทเพลง และเลือกใช้เทคนิคที่เหมาะสมในการบรรเลงบทเพลง 2 บท ได้แก่ Sonata in A major, D.959 ประพันธ์โดยฟรานซ์ ชูเบิร์ต และ Humoreske, Op.20 ประพันธ์โดยโรเบิร์ต ชูมันน์ ทั้งสองบทเพลงมีลักษณะสำคัญคือมีทำนองและเสียงประสานที่ไพเราะ รวมทั้งมีเทคนิคการบรรเลงเปียโนขั้นสูงที่สามารถทำให้ผู้วิจัยพัฒนาศักยภาพในการบรรเลงเปียโนของตัวเอง ผลการวิจัยแสดงการตีความบทเพลง การนำเสนอเทคนิคการบรรเลง การถ่ายทอดและนำเสนอบทเพลงเหมาะสม นอกจากนั้นยังนำเสนอวิธีการและขั้นตอนการเตรียมความพร้อมสำหรับการแสดงเดี่ยวเปียโนที่จัดขึ้นเมื่อวันที่ 14 ธันวาคม พ.ศ.2565 ณ Tongsuang's Concert Salon & Gallery จังหวัดปทุมธานี เวลาในการแสดงทั้งหมดประมาณ 1 ชั่วโมง 10 นาที

การวิจัยนี้มีจุดประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาหาความรู้ วิเคราะห์ ตีความบทเพลง เลือกใช้เทคนิคที่เหมาะสมในการบรรเลงบทเพลงสำหรับเปียโนจำนวน 2 ชุด ได้แก่ The Four Seasons ของอันโตนิโอ วิวัลดี และ The Seasons ของปีเตอร์ อิลิทช์ ไชคอฟสกี บทเพลงทั้งสองชุดนำเสนอเรื่องราวเกี่ยวกับฤดูกาลต่าง ๆ จากแนวความคิดของผู้ประพันธ์เพลงจากยุคดนตรีที่ต่างกัน บทเพลงดังกล่าวมีทำนองที่ไพเราะสวยงาม มีการใช้เสียงประสานหลากหลายรูปแบบ รวมถึงมีอารมณ์เพลงและความรู้สึกที่เกิดขึ้นเฉพาะในฤดูกาลนั้น ๆ ซึ่งทำให้เพลงแต่ละบทมีเอกลักษณ์และต้องการการตีความเฉพาะบทที่เหมาะสม ผลการวิจัยแสดงการศึกษาตีความบทเพลง และการนำเสนอเทคนิคการบรรเลง ตลอดจนการถ่ายทอดและนำเสนอบทเพลงในการแสดงดนตรีเพื่ออนุรักษ์และเผยแพร่ผลงานอันทรงคุณค่าให้กับผู้ที่สนใจในดนตรีคลาสสิก

การแสดงเดี่ยวขับร้องโดย รัฐพงศ์ ปิติชาญ : วรรณกรรมเพลงคลาสสิกและละครเพลง มีจุดประสงค์เพื่อสร้างสรรค์ผลงานการแสดงทางการขับร้อง ที่มีการผสมผสานระหว่างการขับร้อง จากวรรณกรรมเพลงคลาสสิกและละครเพลงรวมทั้งสิ้น 12 เพลง โดยมีสัดส่วนของประเภทเพลง ในการแสดงครึ่งต่อครึ่ง ผู้วิจัยได้คัดเลือกบทเพลงร้องจากวรรณกรรมเพลงคลาสสิกเป็นจำนวน 6 เพลง โดยมีทั้งบทเพลงที่มีเนื้อร้องภาษาอิตาเลียน และภาษาเยอรมัน และอีก 6 เพลง จากบทเพลงร้องวรรณกรรมละครเพลง โดยผู้วิจัยได้คัดเลือกจากบทเพลงที่มีชื่อเสียงโด่งดัง ทั้งบทเพลงที่ใช้ภาษาอังกฤษและภาษาไทย เนื่องด้วยบทเพลงที่ได้คัดเลือกมานั้น มีความยาก และมีเอกลักษณ์เฉพาะตัว จึงต้องศึกษาและวิเคราะห์เพื่อให้เกิดความเข้าใจอย่างถ่องแท้ ในด้านเทคนิคการขับร้อง ภาษา แนวปฏิบัติสังคีต และการตีความเพลง จากหนังสือ ตำรา และบทความที่เกี่ยวข้องรวมถึงรายละเอียดทางของส่วนดนตรีที่บรรเลงประกอบการร้อง เพื่อให้ผู้วิจัยสามารถเลือกใช้วิธีการการขับร้องต่าง ๆ ได้เหมาะสมตามลักษณะเพลงมากที่สุด และเพื่อให้สามารถสื่อสารกับผู้ฟังได้ตรงกับจุดประสงค์ทางดนตรีของเพลงมากที่สุดทั้งสองประเภท
