Westerners might have been accustomed to seeing war-related images on the cover of newspapers by the time they received the newest edition of Time magazine the morning of July 20, 1942. And indeed, that is what they got. But instead of the expected picture of a soldier or political leader, or even an ill-spirited caricature of the enemy, readers were graced with a representative from a different front of the war: the musical front. Video, audio, and photographs documenting the Homer Ledford Award, presented to an exemplary Kentucky luthier and given out in partnership with the Kentucky Arts Council, the Kentucky Folklife Program, and WKU’s Department of Folk Studies & Anthropology. With the progression of streaming services in recent years, the art form of animation has gained traction, continuing to develop into exceedingly creative forms through the work of talented artists. Animation has developed alongside the film industry, achieving great success in the process. This thesis will define animation and its place within visual effects, critically analyze categories of character design, theme, and story while demonstrating their relationship with animation, and contrast animation with live action films to understand its strengths and differentiations. Jewish Music Sound Recording Collections In The United States, Judith S. Pinnolis

Faculty Works

This chapter examines several significant Jewish music sound-recording collections in the United States, most of which originated as private collections but are now housed at academic institutions. Their origins provide insight into individual agency tied to different understandings of Jewish music. A discussion of their complexities from a library-science perspective focuses on conservation and preservation as well as bibliographic control and other issues in which the complexities of Jewish music unfold more clearly. Authenticity, comprehensiveness, and other constructions demonstrate how sound-recording collections reflect the overall difficulties of defining and delimiting Jewish music. While both disciplines fall under the umbrella of professional music performance, trumpet and vocal pedagogy and performance are typically considered to be separate entities. Even though, historically, the two have impacted each other, very few materials evaluate these subjects in tandem. That is what this thesis proposes to do. In examining the two different disciplines, I will explore their similarities and differences, and how they can impact students and teachers today.

Often, these events have literature lists from which directors are required to choose literature for the event. With choral festivals being so prevalent in music education, the literature lists provided to choral music educators have a major impact on young singers. The concert begins with Beethoven’s “Egmont Overture.” Beethoven wrote this music for a play written by German poet Goethe. The play portrays the sixteenth-century heroics of Count Egmont of the Netherlands, who defied a Spanish attack. The next selection will be Mozart’s “Violin Concerto No. 5, KV 219.” Mailyn Iribar will perform as the violin soloist in the concerto sometimes called “Turkish,” because of the movements and shifts from A major to A minor. After a 15-minute intermission, the evening’s concert will conclude with Haydn’s “Symphony No. 101,” or “The Clock.” This piece is one of the Austrian …
