Imperative Duality Of Music Teacher Technological Education, Drew X. Coles, Cato Zane

Journal of the Association for Technology in Music Instruction

Referencing the TPACK (Technological Pedagogical and Content Knowledge) framework articulated by Mishra and Koehler, this article explains the need for educators to acknowledge and educate themselves regarding different proficiency tracks within the world of music technological content knowledge. We argue that our concept of “Imperative Duality” elaborates upon, and works to balance, the three elements of the TPACK framework: content knowledge, technological expertise, and pedagogical skills. With imperative duality, we explore the idea that educators must possess both content and technological knowledge to facilitate effective and comprehensive music tech instruction. Broadway music is widely known for its heavy emphasis on storytelling, which goes beyond lyrics or on-stage actions but into the musical construction and development in itself. Such music has historically impacted the orchestral scene across the world, but also at a local level in Gettysburg College and its ensembles. The Gettysburg College Concert Band is a significant reflection of the College’s musical culture, which can be observed through the repertoire of their performance that took place on April 30, 1977.

This project analyzes the behavior and statements of the musician Tyler, The Creator as compared to contemporary understandings of the steps, requirements, and functions of a public apology. In 2009, Tyler, The Creator began his career as a solo singer songwriter, using shock value tactics to gain the attention of the public with lyrics and online comments which glorified murder, sexual assault, and kidnapping. Outcries against the themes of the comments and lyrics called for an official public apology and acknowledgement from Tyler, The Creator, however, such a statement never came to fruition. This project contains research about the topics of economy, emotions, music, urbanization, and Japanese City Pop all during the 1980s. It shows the connections between all of these subjects and how they relate back to the City Pop genre. Common themes of City Pop songs are also explored and delved into by comparing songs and analyzing their lyrics, melodies, and topics.

My project explores how music shapes our perception of life and death by engaging emotions, memory, and cultural understanding. Drawing from Daniel J. Levitin’s This Is Your Brain on Music and Alex Ross’s The Rest Is Noise, it examines music’s neurological and historical impact on human experience. It highlights how songs like Eric Clapton’s "Tears in Heaven," Billy Joel’s "And So It Goes," and John Lennon’s "Imagine" express themes of grief, love, and unity. Evolution Of Lyrics Of Egyptian Songs In The 20th Century, Omar Abdelrafe

The Undergraduate Research Journal

Despite the extensive research by western countries on the song lyrics, almost nothing is known about the evolution of Egyptian song lyrics. The previous studies in the U.S. and U.K. revealed that lyrics were more pessimistic as time passed. In this study, 1891 Egyptian songs from 1920 to 2022 were analyzed using a sentiment analysis tool while searching for offensive words and retrieving their popularity scores from Spotify. The results aligned with those of the other regions in which the negativity of songs and the percentage of songs containing offensive words increased. HAYDN: Online Journal of the Haydn Society of North America

Haydn’s last opera, L’anima del filosofo (The Soul of the Philosopher), is a highly unusual retelling of the Orpheus myth. Written for London in 1791 to a libretto by C. F. Badini, the opera was never staged during the composer’s lifetime. Shut down in rehearsal and banned from performance, the opera never reached the stage because many of its themes—including the apocalyptic storm at the end—piqued British anxieties towards events unfolding in revolutionary France. The opera finally premiered in 1951, with Maria Callas singing the role of Euridice. Universal Edition prepared the performing material from sources photographed behind …

Journal of the Association for Technology in Music Instruction

This pilot study evaluates the relevance of ancillary courses (required related) in music technology curricula, emphasizing the alignment of academic offerings with industry needs. While core subjects like studio recording and sound design are well-studied, this research focuses on related courses outside the primary sequence, including technology, business, industry-specific, core music, and education courses. Surveying 20 professionals across various music technology sectors, we assessed the importance of topics such as basic electronics, wireless systems, media studies, and industrial safety. Results indicate that basic electronics and wireless systems are crucial. Media studies and industrial safety courses are also valued highly, though …

This thesis examines authorship and copyright complexities in the Australian independent music industry, focusing on the evolving roles of producers in music creation. As advancements in technology and shifts in industry practices reshape the music production landscape, traditional definitions of authorship, centred on melody and lyrics, increasingly fail to capture the scope of producers’ contributions. Through qualitative interviews with industry professionals, the study highlights the significant yet often unrecognised influence of producers, examining how their input shapes music and its implications for intellectual property and copyright frameworks. The findings reveal that current systems for allocating and managing remuneration fail to …
