The Roles Of Academic Libraries In Shaping Music Publishing In The Digital Age, Kimmy Szeto Oct 2018

The Roles Of Academic Libraries In Shaping Music Publishing In The Digital Age, Kimmy Szeto

Publications and Research

Libraries are positioned at the nexus of creative production, music publishing, performance, and research. The academic library community has the potential to play an influential leadership role in shaping the music publishing life cycle, making scores more readily discoverable and accessible, and establishing itself as a force that empowers a wide range of creativity and scholarship. Yet the music publishing industry has been slow to capitalize on the digital market, and academic libraries have been slow to integrate electronic music scores into their collections. In this paper, I will discuss the historical, technical, and human factors that have contributed to …

Mda As A Research Method Of Generic Musical Analysis For The Social Sciences: Sifting Through Grime (Music) As An Sft Case Study, Monique Charles Oct 2018

Mda As A Research Method Of Generic Musical Analysis For The Social Sciences: Sifting Through Grime (Music) As An Sft Case Study, Monique Charles

Sociology Faculty Articles and Research

Using Grime as a case study, I employ the analytical framework I created, that is, Musicological Discourse Analysis (MDA) as a holistic mode of analysis to contextualize Grime sociologically and musicologically. This method retheorizes genre, providing a more specific, useful, and detailed musical classification system; the sonic footprint timestamp (SFT). The MDA framework provides a generic mode of musical analysis for research projects in sociology, cultural studies, and the social sciences fields. This article evaluates key musical influences in the evolution of Grime as both (i) a musical form and (ii) an analysis of influences in relation to its social …

Practice Makes Perfect: Creating Information Literacy Modules For Learning Management Systems, Paula L. Hickner, Elizabeth J. Weisbrod Sep 2018

Practice Makes Perfect: Creating Information Literacy Modules For Learning Management Systems, Paula L. Hickner, Elizabeth J. Weisbrod

Georgia International Conference on Information Literacy

Many institutions now use learning management systems (LMS) such as Blackboard and Canvas to deliver class content for distance learning programs, online-only classes, or to supplement face-to-face courses. Learning management systems offer the librarian a remarkable opportunity to reach students in new and exciting ways. Music students find that they need to be able to navigate a library’s music collection very early …

Paris Flute Class At The Ecole Normale De Musique, April Clayton

Journal of Undergraduate Research

Thank you for funding our grant request, which enabled five flute majors to travel to Paris, France, during the summer of 2016. We were awarded a total of $16,000. Each student’s full tuition of $1600 was covered, as well as full housing costs of $600/student for two weeks. Each student was given help covering her plane ticket to Paris with the remaining grant money.
