It Services Offshoring To Africa: Assessing The Attractiveness And Readiness Of Nigeria, Joshua O. Omoju

The African Journal of Information Systems

This paper presents one of the first comprehensive analyses of Nigeria’s future readiness and attractiveness as a potential destination for IT-enabled services offshoring. The paper examines existing literature on IT services offshoring to Africa, and presents results from in-depth evaluation of seven important location selection criteria. The study indicates that while Nigeria appears to be making progress in many areas, the country is neither yet ready nor attractive as an offshoring destination. Nevertheless, the analysis suggests that Nigeria might already be on the path to attaining readiness in the future. However, significant hurdles will need to be surmounted if Nigeria …

This study develops a novel conceptual framework to understand the differential impact of formal institutional regime shift in intellectual property rights on the innovation and patenting strategies of Chinese and Western firms operating in China. We argue that to the extent that Chinese firms have been deeply embedded in China’s informal institutions,they are less responsive to formal institutional changes than Western firms operating in China. Why Trade Credit Financing Is More Important Than Developing Large Customer Relationships For Video Game Suppliers, Jocelyn D. Evans, Dominique G. Outlaw

Trade credit extended to suppliers in the video game industry does not serve as a commitment device for large customers in determining which vendors to make relationship-specific investments in. Suppliers of video games are better off investing in relationships with trade creditors than seeking out large customers. The costs of large customer relationships are lower sales growth and less long-term debt leverage. Also, large customers don’t form relationships with suppliers in this industry, which has high research and development expenditures nor do they facilitate economic viability with regard to continued independent operational performance or listing on a stock exchange.

Investment in Research and Development (R&D) is necessary for innovation, allowing an organization to maintain a competitive edge. The U.S. Federal Government invests billions of dollars, primarily in basic research technologies to help fill the pipeline for other organizations to take the technology into commercialization. However, it is not about just investing in innovation, it is about converting that research into application. A cursory review of the research proposal evaluation criteria suggests that there is little to no emphasis placed on the transfer of research results. Partnering with American Beer Equipment in Lincoln, the university’s Department of Food Science and Technology is bringing a 3.5 barrel, semi-automated brew house online in theFood Innovation Center pilot plants. Research defines technology transfer from the viewpoint of business processes and personnel skills (Rogers, Takegami & Yin, 2001). The focus is on action to adapt and embrace an existing technology to gain efficiency (Gilsing et al., 2011). We examine this phenomenon as innovation based on the ability to transfer existing needs, desires, behaviors, and expectations to new technology. We find technology is adopted when transfer opportunities become manifest and each transfer builds upon its predecessor to create transformation in the long term. This relationship between transfer and transformation gradually builds technology adoption across chasms of the S-curve technology innovation curve.
