The Role Of Firm-Level Pdo In Asymmetrically Dependent Marketing Channel Relationships, Yuerong Liu 2022 West Virginia University

The Role Of Firm-Level Pdo In Asymmetrically Dependent Marketing Channel Relationships, Yuerong Liu

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

This dissertation introduces power distance orientation (PDO) at firm level to extend the traditional view of power/dependence asymmetry. The traditional view suggests that the powerful firm will exploit its power for its own interest, and the dependent firm will engage in a preemptive strike (e.g., engage in self-interested, guileful behaviors before the powerful partner exploits them) due to its fear of being exploited. As a result, power/dependence asymmetry leads to deleterious relationship outcomes. Yet, power dependence theory does not consider the role of power dependence orientation, which is a firm’s acceptance of unequally distributed power. This dissertation consists of three …

Online Brand Detraction In An Online Opinion Platform, Violetta Wilk, Claire Lambert, Stephanie Meek

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Through the lens of social exchange theory, OBD was operationalized and compared to its direct opposite manifestation - online brand advocacy (OBA). A big data, qualitative analysis, with a longitudinal approach was used to understand OBD in an online opinion platform (OOP). Four key dimensions of OBD were found: brand negativity, brand attack, negative brand knowledge and experience sharing, and virtual visual cues. These dimensions are polar opposites of OBA - a highly sought-after organic …

Theses and Dissertations (Comprehensive)

Increasingly, stakeholders are demanding greater accountability from firms and their respective brands. This in turn has pressured firms across industries to address social issues that were once inconceivable in relevance to their operating mission, requiring many businesses to pivot towards embracing a social purpose as part of their corporate brand identity. Purpose in management has been defined as the greater values that promote societal welfare within and outside the firm (Hollensbe et al., 2014) and, as such, purpose-driven firms are those that link their governance practices with the greater pro-social values they espouse(Kim et al., 2016). This dissertation studies the …
