A Quantitative Analysis On Bitmex Perpetual Inverse Futures Xbtusd Contract, Yue Wu 2021 Carnegie Mellon University

A Quantitative Analysis On Bitmex Perpetual Inverse Futures Xbtusd Contract, Yue Wu

Undergraduate Economic Review

The perpetual inverse futures contract is a recent and most popularly traded cryptocurrency derivative over crypto derivatives exchanges. Exchanges implement a liquidation mechanism that terminates positions which no longer satisfy maintenance requirements. In this study, we use regression, stochastic calculus, and simulation methods to provide a quantitative description of the wealth/return process for holding an XBTUSD contract on BitMEX, examine the funding rate and index price properties, and relate liquidation to leverage as a stopping time problem. The results will help investors understand liquidation to optimize their trading strategy and researchers in studying the design of crypto derivatives.

Initial Effects Of Subchapter V Of Chapter 11 Bankruptcy During Covid-19, Denise Han 2021 Brigham Young University

Initial Effects Of Subchapter V Of Chapter 11 Bankruptcy During Covid-19, Denise Han

Undergraduate Honors Theses

On February 19, 2020, the Small Business Reorganization Act of 2019 went into effect, ushering in the use of Subchapter V by small business debtors. Lawmakers crafted Subchapter V with the intent to make the reorganization process more streamlined and cost effective than the standard Chapter 11 was for these debtors. With features such as the Subchapter V trustee, cramdown provisions, filing deadlines, lack of a creditors’ committee, and relaxed disclosure requirements, small business debtors should in theory be better positioned to emerge from bankruptcy as viable entities. Through quantitative analysis and qualitative research, this Article explores initial observations on …

Investment Decisions And Trading Behavior Of Institutional And Retail Investors, Antonia KIRILOVA 2021 Singapore Management University

Investment Decisions And Trading Behavior Of Institutional And Retail Investors, Antonia Kirilova

Dissertations and Theses Collection (Open Access)

This dissertation consists of three studies in the areas of empirical asset pricing, market microstructure, and behavioral finance. I study the trading behavior and portfolio choices of institutions and retail investors in the equity and derivatives markets. Examining the ways in which different market participants make investment decisions allows us to understand their role in shaping financial market dynamics. This is important in order to know how to structure markets for enhanced market efficiency, and to protect less sophisticated investors through better policies and regulations. Although there is a considerable amount of literature disputing the ability of retail investors and …

Home Price Appreciation And Residential Lending Standards, Yongjia Li, Salman Tahsin 2021 Boise State University

Home Price Appreciation And Residential Lending Standards, Yongjia Li, Salman Tahsin

Finance Faculty Publications and Presentations

We explore the effect of home price appreciation on residential lending standards in the U.S. across different sample periods. Using housing supply elasticity measures as instrumental variables for home price changes, we find that rising home prices led to easing lending standards between 2001 and 2006. Mortgage acceptance rates increased more in MSAs that experienced higher home price appreciation, contributing to the credit boom. However, we find that home price appreciation is associated with tighter lending standards between 2012 and 2016, suggesting that banks took a more cautious view of home price appreciation after the financial crisis. To study the …

Outsourcing Life Cycle Model For Financial Services In The Fintech Era, Tristan Lim, Patrick Thng

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

In today’s financial services landscape, staying ahead of the innovation curve and being disciplined at enhancing core service offerings entail careful resource planning. A well-structured outsourcing arrangement can go a long way towards enhancing long term organizational strategic growth. In the post-2014 FinTech era, (i) strategic management with an innovation focus and (ii) financial technology-associated risks, have brought about changes to outsourcing in the financial services industry. Presently, most outsourcing life cycle models in existing literature seek to provide comprehensive, yet industry-neutral guidelines lacking industry context and depth of coverage. A newly licensed financial institution deciding to embark on outsourcing …

Corporate Governance And Firm Value: Evidence From Lodging Companies, Serban Bakay Ergene, Erdinc Karadeniz

Journal of Global Business Insights

This study examined the relationships and interactions between corporate governance and firm values of lodging companies with different characteristics. The companies were analyzed separately using a classification and regression tree (CRT) analysis. The analysis results did not show a direct relationship between value and governance, yet that does not mean there is no relationship between them. When the companies’ governance scores were similar, corporate governance showed no distinguishing variable on firm value but is a hygiene factor. The analysis also found negative relationships between value and size. This may be important in preventing companies from becoming cumbersome. Also, positive relationships …

Japanese Monetary Policy And Its Impact On Stock Market Implied Volatility During Pleasant And Unpleasant Weather, Marinela Adriana FINTA 2021 Singapore Management University

Japanese Monetary Policy And Its Impact On Stock Market Implied Volatility During Pleasant And Unpleasant Weather, Marinela Adriana Finta

Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business

We investigate the effect of Japan’s Monetary Policy Meeting releases on the intraday dynamics of the Nikkei Stock Average Volatility Index and its futures during pleasant and unpleasant weather. We show that at the time of a monetary policy release when the temperature is pleasant, there is a significant decline in Japanese equities’ implied volatility and futures, which lasts for about 10 minutes and 5 minutes, respectively. This decline is longer and exhibits a greater variation when releases occur during cold days. Finally, we emphasize the achievable economic profits and losses, given the reaction of Nikkei VI futures to the …

The Night And Day Of Amihud’S (2002) Liquidity Measure, Yashar H. Barardehi, Dan Bernhardt, Thomas G. Ruchti, Marc Weidenmier 2021 Chapman University

The Night And Day Of Amihud’S (2002) Liquidity Measure, Yashar H. Barardehi, Dan Bernhardt, Thomas G. Ruchti, Marc Weidenmier

Business Faculty Articles and Research

Amihud’s stock (il)liquidity measure averages daily ratios of the absolute close-to-close return to dollar volume, including overnight returns. Our modified measure uses open-to-close returns matching return and trading volume measurement windows. It is more strongly correlated with trading-cost measures (by 8%–37%) and better explains cross-sections of returns, doubling estimated liquidity premiums. Using nonsynchronous trading near close, we show overnight returns are primarily information driven: including them in Amihud’s proxy for price impacts of trading magnifies measurement error, understating liquidity premiums. Our modification helps wherever Amihud’s measure is required. Our measures are publicly available for 1964–2019 and can be updated. ( …

Santa Claus Rally And The Indian Stock Market: A Comprehensive Analysis, Srinvias Nippani, Shekar Shetty

Faculty Publications

The study examines the leading Indian stock market indices all of which reflect the “Santa Claus rally” effect where significantly higher daily returns accrue to investors in the last five trading days of December and the first two trading days of the following January. The study also reveals that the BSE SENSEX started exhibiting this effect only during the post-1991 period. Additionally, the results indicate that there is a size effect associated with the Santa Claus rally effect wherein small-cap companies outperform mid-cap and large-cap companies. The evidence also suggests that the effect is prominent in eight industry-specific sub-sectors.

Traceable Monero: Anonymous Cryptocurrency With Enhanced Accountability, Yannan LI, Guomin YANG, Wily SUSILO, Yong YU, Man Ho AU, Dongxi LIU 2021 Singapore Management University

Traceable Monero: Anonymous Cryptocurrency With Enhanced Accountability, Yannan Li, Guomin Yang, Wily Susilo, Yong Yu, Man Ho Au, Dongxi Liu

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Monero provides a high level of anonymity for both users and their transactions. However, many criminal activities might be committed with the protection of anonymity in cryptocurrency transactions. Thus, user accountability (or traceability) is also important in Monero transactions, which is unfortunately lacking in the current literature. In this paper, we fill this gap by introducing a new cryptocurrency named Traceable Monero to balance the user anonymity and accountability. Our framework relies on a tracing authority, but is optimistic, in that it is only involved when investigations in certain transactions are required. We formalize the system model and security model …

Analysis Of Time-Phased Estimates Accuracy, Budget Profile And Under-Spending In Defense Acquisition Programs, Thinh Q. Tran 2021 Air Force Institute of Technology

Analysis Of Time-Phased Estimates Accuracy, Budget Profile And Under-Spending In Defense Acquisition Programs, Thinh Q. Tran

Theses and Dissertations

As fiscal resources become more limited due to the expanding range of mission needs, accurate cost estimating and budgeting have become more important than ever before. Accurate cost estimates allow the Department of Defense (DoD) to budget with confidence and to effectively communicate its needs to Congress. This research looks to analyze estimates from Air Force’s programs using Milestone B and Initial Operational Capability as the analysis window. Initial analysis of the linear interpolation of the percent budget change indicates that there is underspending in the earlier stages of acquisition programs’ development cycle. Additionally, looking at the cumulative budget change …

Short-Term Institutions, Analyst Recommendations, And Mispricing: The Role Of Higher Order Beliefs, Martijn Cremers, Ankur Pareek, Zacharias Sautner 2021 University of Notre Dame

Short-Term Institutions, Analyst Recommendations, And Mispricing: The Role Of Higher Order Beliefs, Martijn Cremers, Ankur Pareek, Zacharias Sautner

Department of Finance Faculty Research

We document that stocks that have optimistic (pessimistic) consensus recommendations and are currently held by many short-term institutions exhibit large stock-return reversals: Their large past outperformance (underperformance) is followed by large negative (positive) future alphas. The predictable return reversals originate from overreaction to past recommendation releases and the correction of these overreactions around future releases. Results are stronger when earnings news is released and at firms with higher fundamental uncertainty. Further, firms with more short-term institutions show stronger announcement returns and price drift after recommendation changes. Our results are consistent with models of higher order beliefs where short-term institutions coordinate …

Financing Of Small And Medium Scale Enterprises And Its Growth Impact In Nigeria., Charles Onyeiwu Ph.D, Obumneke Bob Muoneke, Udo Nkoyo

The Journal of Entrepreneurial Finance

Abstract: We examined the extent to which SMEs financing influenced economic growth in Nigeria through the use of time-series data from 1999-2018. After a literature search, other factors possessing the potential to influence the dependent variable ASGDP was added to the research model. Relying on Ordinary Least Squares estimation using E-views 10.0, findings shows that lending rate reduces ASGDP by 7% and gross capital formation reduces ASGDP by 5%. On the other hand, surprisingly, credit to SMEs did not retain the massive effect on growth as seen in previous studies. We can attribute this to our choice of adopting SME …
