Investing In The Middle, Molly Schnoke, Jack Yochum, Shannon Driscoll, James Flanigan 2023 Cleveland State University

Investing In The Middle, Molly Schnoke, Jack Yochum, Shannon Driscoll, James Flanigan

All Maxine Goodman Levin School of Urban Affairs Publications

Middle Neighborhoods (MNs) are generally recognized for their safety, stability and affordability for residents. They also provide an important opportunity to give lower-income populations access to affordable housing and an overall higher quality of life, but the number of MNs is declining throughout the U.S. Recognizing these opportunities and challenges regarding MNs, the research team set out to fill in the existing knowledge gaps about which public policies and programmatic activities are effective at 1) stabilizing MNs and 2) providing equitable access for lower-income and marginalized populations to join and stay in MNs.

Operation Summer Care: Territories Of The Stewardship-Hospitality Complex, George Papamattheakis 2023 Yale University

Operation Summer Care: Territories Of The Stewardship-Hospitality Complex, George Papamattheakis

Masters of Environmental Design Theses

Operation Summer Care studies the expanding interest that the hospitality industry takes in the biogeophysical environment. Natural surroundings have long been an essential operational precondition of tourism in the global sunbelt, but contemporary environmental anxieties increasingly motivate different strata of hosts to take a more active role in environmental management. Usually the domain of the state, biogeophysical entities and their spaces—plants and animals, sand formations, wetlands, entire ecosystems and protected areas—are measured, ordered, and managed by actors adjacent to the tourism industry. At the same time, the socio-technical mechanisms of environmental intervention and calculation are conveniently framed as practices of …

Retrospective Assessment Of A Collaborative Digital Asthma Program For Medicaid-Enrolled Children In Southwest Detroit: Reductions In Short-Acting Beta-Agonist (Saba) Medication Use, Meredith Barrett, Rahul Gondalia, Vy Vuong, Leanne Kaye, Alex B. Hill, Elliot Attisha, Teresa Holtrop 2023 ResMed Science Center, San Diego, CA

Retrospective Assessment Of A Collaborative Digital Asthma Program For Medicaid-Enrolled Children In Southwest Detroit: Reductions In Short-Acting Beta-Agonist (Saba) Medication Use, Meredith Barrett, Rahul Gondalia, Vy Vuong, Leanne Kaye, Alex B. Hill, Elliot Attisha, Teresa Holtrop

Urban Studies and Planning Faculty Research Publications

Background
Real-world evidence for digitally-supported asthma programs among Medicaid-enrolled children remains limited. Using data from a collaborative quality improvement program, we evaluated the impact of a digital intervention on asthma inhaler use among children in southwest Detroit.

Methods
Children (6–13 years) enrolled with Kids Health Connection (KHC), a program involving home visits with an asthma educator, were invited to participate in a digital self-management asthma program (Propeller Health). Patients were provided with a sensor to capture short-acting beta-agonist (SABA) medication use, and given access to a paired mobile app to track usage. Patients’ healthcare providers and caregivers (“followers”) were invited …

Fighting For The Heart Of The Mission District: Multiracial Community Organizing And Anti-Displacement Movements, AnaChristina Arana 2023 University of San Francisco

Fighting For The Heart Of The Mission District: Multiracial Community Organizing And Anti-Displacement Movements, Anachristina Arana

Master's Projects and Capstones

My research discusses the history of gentrification and displacement in San Francisco, which has been created through a legacy of intentional policymaking, city planning, and land-use decision-making across the city and state. This study centers the collective power and expertise of multiracial, multicultural community-based organizations and coalitions dedicated to the work of tackling these systemic issues in the Mission District of San Francisco. To learn about the impact of multiracial community organizing, I pose the following research question: How do multiracial community-based organizations work to disrupt gentrification and displacement, and create meaningful change to support impacted community members in the …
