Problem Statement: This study investigated risk factors commonly highlighted by prior studies and risk assessment tools (e.g., Violent Extremism Risk Assessment Version 2 (VERA-2) and Extremism Risk Guidance 22+ (ERG22+)). It compared the risk factors across and within two groups – violent extremists (i.e., jihadists and far-right extremists) and non-violent extremists (i.e., jihadists and far-right financial/material support crime extremists) in the U.S. Jihadists and far-rightists are the two greatest security threats facing the U.S., and the findings can aid counterterrorism efforts on assessment development, identifying effective risk factors across varying groups, and assessing violence risk. This dataset includes the demographics, education, perceptions, and assessment of de-escalation skills of law enforcement officers, and other professionals, which were collected as a part of in-person de-escalation training. Many of these trainings were funded as a part of the Office of Community-Oriented Policing Services (U.S. Department of Justice). All of the data is anonymous, and can be linked based on the trainee generated identification number. This data was collected across three separate activities. While terrorism studies were once castigated as atheoretical and unempirical, criminology has been well suited to apply theories of crime to terrorism and to then test those theories with rigorous methods and robust data. The present study takes stock of how criminologists have theorized about terrorism and tested those theories over time in 13 of the discipline’s leading journals. Methods. The study systematically examines theoretical framing, hypotheses, methodological approach, focus within criminology and criminal justice, and policy recommendations in terrorism-focused articles. The present study examined the impact a mental illness diagnosis has on parole eligibility mediated by the participants’ perceptions of whether the prospective parolee would commit future crimes if released. Participants watched a video vignette of an individual charged with second degree manslaughter and diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, antisocial personality disorder, or bipolar disorder while incarcerated. Results indicated that a diagnosis of antisocial personality disorder indirectly reduced parole success compared to bipolar disorder and borderline personality disorder when mediated by participants’ perceptions of whether the convict would recommit a crime following release.

This paper focuses on evaluations of employment-based reentry programs. It begins with an overview of recidivism, touching on the both theory and empirical research framing employment as a pivotal factor in the reentry process. Next, it reviews the limited assessments of work-release programming and their findings. The final sections examine the structural factors which complicate reentry, specifically low wages and community disorganization. And identifies the benefits of incorporating qualitative methods in criminological research as it relates to evaluating programs, their impact, and tying findings to program adaptations and future implementation.

The following study will determine whether Korean Americans’ trust in police positively correlates with perceptions of police legitimacy. This project uses the data collected from surveys given to Korean Americans in the Atlanta, Georgia area. It takes into consideration 128 complete responses collected in September 2022 from Korean Americans, regardless of their immigration status. A regression analysis will be conducted to analyze the relationship between trust in police and perceived police legitimacy among Korean residents while controlling for the demographic factors such as age and gender of the participants. This article reviews the three previously studied categories of variables that are related to eyewitness identification accuracy: estimator (characteristics of the witnessing conditions), system (characteristics of the identification procedure that are under the control of the criminal legal system), and reflector (variables that reflect the likely accuracy of a witness). Although eyewitness scholars frequently turn to these variables and models of memory to explain why eyewitnesses make mistakes, none of these variables provides a reasonable explanation for the large racial disparities in wrongful convictions based on mistaken identifications, yet problematic policing practices might. In recent years, the concept of “misogynistic extremism” has emerged as a subject of interest among scholars, governments, law enforcement personnel, and the media. Yet a consistent understanding of how misogynistic extremism is defined and conceptualized has not yet emerged. วิทยานิพนธ์ มาตรการกำกับควบคุมระบบกล่องสุ่มภายในวิดีโอเกม: กลไกเพื่อความสนุกหรือการพนันแฝง มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาเพื่อศึกษาการทำงานของระบบกล่องสุ่มภายในวิดีโอเกมว่าเป็นกลไกเพื่อความสนุกหรือการพนันแฝง ผลกระทบที่อาจเกิดต่อผู้เล่นและต่อสังคม และเพื่อมาตรการกำกับควบคุมระบบกล่องสุ่มภายในวิดีโอเกมของประเทศไทยและต่างประเทศ เพื่อเสนอแนวทางที่เหมาะสมในการกำกับควบคุมการใช้ระบบกล่องสุ่มภายในวิดีโอเกมสำหรับประเทศไทย โดยศึกษาเชิงคุณภาพด้วยการวิจัยเชิงเอกสารและการสัมภาษณ์เชิงลึกจากผู้ให้ข้อมูลสำคัญในหน่วยงานภาครัฐ และภาคเอกชน จำนวน 17 คน ผลการศึกษาพบว่า การทำงานของระบบกล่องสุ่มภายในวิดีโอเกม เป็นทั้งระบบที่เป็นส่วนหนึ่งของวิดีโอเกมและระบบที่มีลักษณะและการส่งผลทางจิตเหมือนกับการพนัน เสมือนการพนันแฝงภายในวิดีโอเกม แต่ระบบกล่องสุ่มภายในวิดีโอเกมไม่มีสถานะเป็นการพนันตามพระราชบัญญัติการพนัน พ.ศ. 2478 ระบบกล่องสุ่มภายในวิดีโอเกมส่งผลกระทบทั้งในด้านความไม่เป็นธรรมต่อผู้เล่น ด้านสุขภาพ และด้านเศรฐกิจและสังคม ซึ่งอาจส่งผลให้เกิดปัญหาอาชญากรรมอื่นตามมา ในปัจจุบันประเทศไทยยังไม่มีกฎหมายหรือหน่วยงานใดที่กำกับควบคุมระบบกล่องสุ่มภายในวิดีโอเกมโดยตรง และไม่มีมาตรการของภาคเอกชนไทยในการกำกับควบคุมระบบกล่องสุ่มภายในวิดีโอเกม ในส่วนของมาตรการกำกับควบคุมระบบกล่องสุ่มภายในวิดีโอเกมของต่างประเทศ ในส่วนของภาครัฐมีการใช้มาตรการทางกฎหมายการพนัน กฎหมายคุ้มครองผู้บริโภค และกฎหมายกล่องสุ่มภายในวิดีโอเกมโดยตรง ภาคเอกชนมีการทำข้อตกลงในภาคอุตสาหกรรมเกม มีมาตรการของร้านค้าออนไลน์ และมาตรการจัดเรทวิดีโอเกม แนวทางของมาตรการกำกับควบคุมระบบกล่องสุ่มภายในวิดีโอเกมที่เหมาะสมสำหรับประเทศไทย คือ 1) มีการนิยามการพนันไว้ในกฎหมายอย่างชัดเจน 2) ให้มีกฎหมายเกี่ยวกับระบบกล่องสุ่มภายในวิดีโอเกมโดยตรง 3) ให้มีการจัดเรทวิดีโอเกมโดยพิจารณาจากระบบการเล่น 4) ให้มีมาตรการสำหรับผู้ให้บริการเกมจากต่างประเทศ นอกจากนี้ควรมีการประชาสัมพันธ์ให้ความรู้เพิ่มเติม และส่งเสริมการทำงานของทุกภาคส่วนที่เกี่ยวข้อง

การศึกษาเชิงพรรณนานี้มุ่งศึกษาลักษณะ ปัจจัยที่สัมพันธ์ต่อความขัดแย้ง รูปแบบการจัดการที่มิได้เข้ากระบวนการศาลจากโรงพยาบาลตติยภูมิในกรุงเทพมหานครและปริมณฑลในช่วงแพร่ระบาดของโรคโควิด-19 รวมถึงผลกระทบจากสถานการณ์ ตลอดจนโอกาสพัฒนาแนวคิดยุติธรรมเชิงสมานฉันท์ โดยศึกษาข้อมูลเบื้องต้นจากหน่วยงานบริหารความขัดแย้งผ่านแบบสอบถาม และสัมภาษณ์เชิงลึกในผู้ที่เคยได้รับความเสียหายในบริการทางการแพทย์ ผู้บริหารระบบและไกล่เกลี่ยความขัดแย้ง ผลการศึกษาจากการสำรวจจากโรงพยาบาล 19 แห่ง พบว่าการให้ข้อมูลที่ไม่เหมาะสม และปัญหาการสื่อสาร เป็นเหตุสำคัญสูงสุด (ร้อยละ 71.5) ผู้ไกล่เกลี่ยที่เคยอบรมหลักสูตรการเจรจาไกล่เกลี่ย หรือการบริหารความขัดแย้งมีเพียงส่วนน้อย (ร้อยละ 12.2) และไม่มีผู้รู้จักแนวคิดยุติธรรมสมานฉันท์ ผลสัมภาษณ์เชิงลึกพบว่าความขัดแย้งนั้นเกี่ยวเนื่องกับผู้ป่วยเชื่อว่าความเสียหายนั้นเกิดจากการบริการ ความบกพร่องของสื่อสารหรือท่าทีของผู้ให้บริการ ส่วนอุปสรรคต่อความสำเร็จการยุติความขัดแย้งที่สำคัญ คือ ผู้บริหารความขัดแย้งขาดอำนาจตัดสินใจ แสดงออกไม่จริงใจและไม่เป็นกลาง ผู้ให้บริการทางการแพทย์ที่ไม่แสดงความเห็นใจ และรูปแบบการเยียวยาที่ไม่ตรงความต้องการกับผู้เสียหาย สอดคล้องกับกรณียุติความขัดแย้งสำเร็จพบว่าคณะผู้เสียหายได้รับเยียวยาเพียงพอ ได้รับการสื่อสารที่เข้าใจและเข้าหาสม่ำเสมอ ดังนั้นผู้บริหารควรร่วมบริหารความขัดแย้ง ให้ความสำคัญกับภาระงานและส่งเสริมพัฒนาทักษะผู้ปฏิบัติ รวมทั้งนำหลักยุติธรรมสมานฉันท์มาประยุกต์ใช้ ที่มุ่งเน้นเยียวยาให้อภัยและนำไปสู่ยุติความขัดแย้งได้

The age–crime relationship has been a theoretical and empirical puzzle for criminologists for decades. Although the age–crime curve is often considered a stylized fact, a large body of research suggests that the age–crime relationship is dynamic under the influence of age, period, and cohort effects. Research consistently finds that Black and Hispanic youth are overrepresented at various stages of juvenile justice processing. However, less research has considered the role of community characteristics in juvenile justice processing, and much of this research has been mixed. This is particularly concerning given the explicit reliance on extralegal factors, and on the local organization of juvenile justice systems which likely make them considerably more vulnerable to community anxieties. Legislators have largely regarded payday lending, a type of alternative financial service through which borrowers obtain unsecured loans for fast cash, as predatory and detrimental for already vulnerable areas. Critics of this industry suggest that the use of payday loans creates a cycle of debt that can lead to several negative outcomes, including an increase in crime in the areas in which they are located. Recent criminological advancements increasingly aim to better understand criminal behavior in context. This is particularly true regarding how perceptions of legal sanction risk are anchored in reality and influence offending decisions. Yet research on extralegal considerations such as morality has not kept pace. The current dissertation integrates criminological morality literature, with psychological research on Self Concept Maintenance Theory (SCMT) and moral identity, into a perspective on moral decision-making dynamics that integrates personal and situational factors. Trends in public opinion research suggest that Americans are becoming more liberal with respect to drugs. This research is limited by the absence of a reliable and valid indicator of drug sentiment, which inhibits our understanding of how and why public opinion toward drugs evolves over time. การศึกษาวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์และข้อถกเถียงเพื่อศึกษาวิเคราะห์การก่อตัวของการเกิดสนามวาทกรรม “ความผิดเพศ” ภายใต้บริบท “สังคมนิยมชาย” ในสังคมไทย โดยมุ่งศึกษาภาคปฏิบัติการของสนามวาทกรรม “ความผิดเพศ” ในศตวรรษที่ 21 ที่เป็นการปะทะกันระหว่างชุดวาทกรรมรักต่างเพศและชุดวาทกรรมรักเพศเดียวกันแบบคู่ตรงข้าม เพื่อวิเคราะห์ความสัมพันธ์และการเกิดความเกลียดชังทางเพศวิถีที่มีต่อกลุ่มเกย์เพศชายกลุ่มต่างๆ ในสังคมไทย ผ่านการวิเคราะห์สื่อทางสังคมในรูปแบบต่าง ๆ และสื่อวัฒนธรรมป๊อป อาทิ ละครชุด ภาพยนตร์ บทเพลง หรือหนังสือ ตลอดจนการแสดงออกเชิงสัญลักษณ์อย่างเทศกาลไพรด์ รวมไปถึงการวิเคราะห์ชุดวาทกรรมทางการอย่าง “กฎหมาย” ได้แก่ ร่างพระราชบัญญัติแก้ไขประมวลกฎหมายแพ่งและพาณิชย์เพื่อการสมรสเท่าเทียม และร่างพระราชบัญญัติคู่ชีวิต ที่สังคมไทยยังคงมีปัญหาด้านตัวบทกฎหมายการเข้าถึงกระบวนการยุติธรรมและการได้รับความคุ้มครองทางสิทธิและเสรีภาพของกลุ่มเกย์ที่มีข้อจำกัด สะท้อนให้เห็นการแย่งชิงพื้นที่ทางวาทกรรมในสนามวาทกรรมความผิดเพศที่นำไปสู่การเกิดความเกลียดชังทางเพศวิถีที่มีต่อกลุ่มเกย์ ซึ่งผลการศึกษาพบว่า กลุ่มเกย์เพศชายในสังคมไทย ยังคงได้รับผลกระทบจากสนามวาทกรรม “ความผิดเพศ” โดยเฉพาะเรื่องการได้รับความคุ้มครองด้านสิทธิเสรีภาพและการเข้าถึงสิทธิตามกฎหมาย และขาดกฎหมายที่รองรับการแสดงออกและการเข้าถึงสิทธิของกลุ่มผู้มีความหลากหลายทางเพศที่นำไปสู่การเกิดความเกลียดชังทางเพศวิถีที่มีต่อเกย์เพศชายกลุ่มต่าง ๆ โดยงานวิจัยชิ้นนี้ได้สร้างคุณูปการทางวิชาการด้านการศึกษาวาทกรรมและการวิเคราะห์วาทกรรม และสร้างองค์ความรู้เกี่ยวกับความหลากหลายทางเพศ ตลอดจนสร้างความรู้ความเข้าใจด้านอาชญาวิทยาเกี่ยวกับความเกลียดชังทางเพศวิถีที่มีต่อกลุ่มเกย์ให้เกิดความชัดเจนมากยิ่งขึ้น
