Healthcare Professionals’ Experiences Regarding Barriers And Facilitators Of The Hospital Readmissions Reduction Program, Abrin Jacobson
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The Hospital Readmissions Reduction Program (HRRP), developed by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, aims to reduce avoidable readmissions through financial penalties. While HRRP has been associated with modest reductions in readmissions, it has also been linked to the problem of unintended outcomes such as increased mortality and inequitable penalties for hospitals serving socioeconomically disadvantaged populations. The literature presents a limited understanding of how hospital-based healthcare professionals (HHPs) implement HRRP. The purpose of this generic qualitative study was to explore how HHPs perceive the implementation of HRRP requirements and the barriers and facilitators that influence compliance. Grounded in Lipsky’s …

This thesis explores graduate student perceptions from the Public Affairs and Security Studies (PASS) program at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) regarding the role of universities in addressing interconnected environmental, economic, political, and social challenges, described here as a “polycrisis” (Lawrence et al., 2024). Using a mixed-methods approach, the study surveyed 42 students through Likert-scale questions and open-ended prompts. Results show students view economic inequality, political instability, and threats to democracy as the most pressing societal issues. While environmental issues were seen as important, they ranked lower in urgency. Students expect universities to address these challenges through …

Recognizing an opportunity for international cooperation, the Haitian president sought assistance from Cuba by signing a bilateral cooperation agreement for initial and ongoing …

The Critical Definitions For Measuring Homelessness: Implication For Homeless Policy Formulation From Developed Countries To Thailand, Surasak Wongsa
Journal of Demography
Homelessness phenomenon is facing in countries. In the past, the definition of homelessness was based on a materialistic mindset or the principle of objectivity, which viewed problems as tangible and visible objects. Looking at social problems based on objectivity leads to a definition of homelessness that includes only those who are sleeping on the streets and people living in government shelters by identifying the causal factors of homelessness at the individual level, especially mental illness, crime, and drug use. Defining homelessness objectively also involves counting methods that measure the characteristics of homelessness using street counts from the locations where homeless …

Disguising themselves as licensed health clinics, AACs target vulnerable communities to prevent or delay abortion care through the spread of medical misinformation, contributing to abortion stigmatization. Situated in a state with a near-total abortion ban, this secret-shopper study aimed to understand the ways in which AACs in Tampa, Florida communicate anti-abortion rhetoric to pregnant people seeking abortions. Under the guise of people who suspect they are pregnant searching for abortion care, the main researcher and her assistants conducted the first phase of the study through 25 …

Not known was how the policy affected WIC vendors, the essential frontline suppliers of nutritional foods to WIC participants. The purpose of …

Toward Sustainable Human Well-Being: A Multidimensional Assessment In Colorado, Uma Umut Baysal
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Evaluating progress in human well-being is essential for guiding effective policy and promoting sustainable development. Traditional approaches often emphasize economic and social dimensions while overlooking ecological indicators critical to long-term sustainability. This research addresses that gap by proposing a layered, scalable local framework for county-level analysis and bottom-up decision-making, integrating multiple objective indicators to assess and compare well-being outcomes across regions.
The first goal of this dissertation is to measure human well-being in Colorado counties by developing a Human Well-Being Index (HWBI). This index combines a newly developed Built Environment Index (BEI) comprising five sub-indices: accessibility, housing affordability, transportation, …
