Enduring Impacts Of Child Development Accounts: Increased Parental Expectations And College Preparation, Jin Huang, Sicong Sun, Michael Sherraden

Parental educational expectations exert a substantial influence on children’s educational achievement. Elevated parental expectations can move families to prepare for a child’s education beyond high school, both by intentional planning and financial steps to increase the likelihood of attending higher education. This Research Brief explores findings from a detailed study of long-term positive impacts of Child Development Accounts on parental educational expectations and college preparation. Drawing upon analyses of the pre-COVID data collected in 2020 as part of Wave 3 of the SEED for Oklahoma Kids experiment, the brief highlight effects sustained over 13 years.

Informal public transport, as a mode of transportation, offers flexibility to users by allowing them to access services conveniently. However, its mode of operation poses significant challenges, particularly regarding safety, thereby undermining the core objective of ensuring safe travel. This study employs a survey research design to investigate passengers' safety perceptions in informal public transport along the Lokoja-Okene transport corridor. A total of 300 questionnaires were purposefully distributed among commuters using the Lokoja-Okene transport network, with 255 valid responses analyzed using frequencies and percentages. Employer-based benefits are an important for the financial security and well-being of U.S. workers. These benefits are a key path to healthcare access, retirement security, and other beneficial outcomes. But employers may also offer services that support employees’ financial wellness, and relatively little is known about the extent to which supplemental financial-wellness benefits are offered to low-wage workers or about variation in offerings by industries. Introduction: Despite the World Health Organization’s recent declaration of the end of the COVID-19 pandemic, the lessons learned from the outbreak remain crucial for future public health responses. In Thailand, the pandemic’s impact led individuals to explore self-protection methods, including potentially ineffective health products. This study examined the prevalence of health and herbal products used for COVID-19 self-prevention, to identify the types of these products in use and to identify factors influencing their utilization.

How can ideas from complexity and a systems approach help a HEI understand how it creates value and potentially drive business model innovation? This article provides a university-as-a-platform (UaaP) framework that integrates platform thinking and systems thinking to help HEIs think about value creation, innovation, and the design of new business models. This study examines the struggle for field sanitation in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas, where it was waged in the late 1970s and early 1980s by United Farm Workers director Rebecca Flores and her allies. The first section examines the harsh living and working conditions experienced by farm workers there. The second provides a brief biographical sketch of Flores, a daughter of farm workers, from her years as a college student to her role as the leader of the Texas UFW. This essay surveys the national Pioneer Woman statue movement of the early twentieth century to set the statue in Denton into historical context while it analyzes the explosive, nationwide controversy occasioned by the 1936 Texas Centennial’s proposal to place an unclothed pioneer woman sculpture at Texas Woman’s University. It provides a Texas case study with national implications regarding how widely held genderized viewpoints in cultural memories during the 1930s influenced public art. Shocked, Florence T. Griswold opened the December 3, 1939, edition of the newspaper La Prensa to find her private correspondence published, and her international collective, the Pan American Round Tables of Texas, outwardly discredited in a scathing article. The editorial author, Alonso S. Perales, a renowned Mexican American civil rights activist, publicly disavowed Griswold, her organization, and meaningless support and allyships from Pan Americanist groups entirely. This article details the rise of inclusion politics amongst Mexican American activists and Anglo American reformers, and illuminates the tensions rooted in ideological hemispheric unity developed amidst racial subjugation in early twentieth-century Texas.

For college students, learning about the components of identity can generate deeper knowledge about how personal and social identities differ, and how identities influence the way individuals experience socio-cultural systems and structures. The Exploring Dimensions of Crystallized Identities activity uses principles of self-reflexivity and dialogue to explore theoretical frameworks for practical application. This experiential activity is a facilitated dialogue driven by student involvement and is best suited for students in mid- to upper-level undergraduate courses. It encourages students to reflect on their and others’ identities, and to consider the social impacts of diversity in their lives.

Anti-Abortion Centers (AACs) pose a grave threat to the reproductive health outcomes of Americans. Disguising themselves as licensed health clinics, AACs target vulnerable communities to prevent or delay abortion care through the spread of medical misinformation, contributing to abortion stigmatization. Situated in a state with a near-total abortion ban, this secret-shopper study aimed to understand the ways in which AACs in Tampa, Florida communicate anti-abortion rhetoric to pregnant people seeking abortions. Sedentary Behavior (SB) among students is associated with increased risks of depression, anxiety, stress, and weakened immune function. According to the WHO, SB contributes to approximately two million deaths each year. This systematic literature review aims to evaluate the effectiveness of mind-body exercises in improving mental health outcomes—specifically stress reduction, anxiety management, and emotional regulation—among students with sedentary lifestyles. Using the PRISMA framework, 2,201 articles were identified from databases including Scopus, PubMed, and ProQuest, with six studies meeting the inclusion criteria. Many public museums and historic institutions reflect settler colonial culture and are primarily non-Native led. Although these institutions are trusted, many have perpetuated cultural harm through the theft of belongings, the misrepresentation of stories and histories, and the inaccurate portrayals of cultural content. When interpreting Native American experiences, many non-Native institutions struggle to co-create culturally responsive interpretation.
