Robust Quantitative Photoacoustic Imaging For Colorectal Cancer Treatment Monitoring, Sitai Kou Jul 2024

Robust Quantitative Photoacoustic Imaging For Colorectal Cancer Treatment Monitoring, Sitai Kou

McKelvey School of Engineering Graduate Student Theses & Dissertations

Colorectal cancer is the 2nd leading cause of cancer death in the United States and the incidence among population under 50 years old has been increasing for the past decade. Contrary to obvious vascular and morphological structures in pre-treatment colorectal cancer, during treatment and post-treatment colorectal cancer tissue often contains fibrosis and edema in tumor bed. These complications cause difficulties in evaluating tissue response to neoadjuvant chemoradiation therapy with MRI and endoscopy, leading to unnecessary resection of rectum, which increases healthcare cost and impacts patient quality of life. Photoacoustic (PA) imaging is a promising tool for observing blood distribution in …

Computer Science and Computer Engineering Faculty Publications and Presentations

Data acquisitions in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) are inherently slow due to sequential acquisition protocol. Image reconstruction from under-sampled data is posed as an inverse problem in traditional model-based learning paradigms. Recent data-centric learning frameworks such as deep learning (DL) frameworks are data hungry, and demand a large, labeled training data sets. To address the lack of large training datasets, in MRI reconstructions, researchers approach the problem in two ways: (1) unsupervised method where the model is trained without the presence of fully sampled data. (2) using a method that efficiently use the limited dataset for training purpose. In this …

The Impacts Of Dimensionality, Diffusion, And Directedness On Intrinsic Cross-Model Simulation In Tile-Based Self-Assembly, Daniel Hader, Matthew J. Patitz

Computer Science and Computer Engineering Faculty Publications and Presentations

Motivated by applications in DNA-nanotechnology, theoretical investigations in algorithmic tile-assembly have blossomed into a mature theory. In addition to computational universality, the abstract Tile Assembly Model (aTAM) was shown to be intrinsically universal (FOCS 2012), a strong notion of completeness where a single tile set is capable of simulating the full dynamics of all systems within the model; however, this construction fundamentally required non-deterministic tile attachments. This was confirmed necessary when it was shown that the class of directed aTAM systems, those where all possible sequences of tile attachments result in the same terminal assembly, is not intrinsically universal (FOCS …

Neural networks have been used for object detection and recognition in both color and intensity camera images. As the use of infrared cameras, colloquially termed thermal cameras, has increased and costs have decreased, object detection and recognition in infrared camera images have been increasingly studied. An infrared image is treated as an intensity image, just like a grayscale camera image, except the intensity corresponds to infrared radiation instead of visible light. The information provided by these two types of images are different, especially in different lighting and environmental situations, and some types of objects are more easily recognized in visible …

Improving Tcp Performance Using P4-Programmable Data Planes, Jose Antonio Gomez Gaona Jul 2024

Improving Tcp Performance Using P4-Programmable Data Planes, Jose Antonio Gomez Gaona

Theses and Dissertations

The Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) forms the foundation of reliable end-to-end communication and is widely used by many applications for efficient data transfers across the Internet. TCP relies on various congestion control algorithms (CCAs) to manage its response to network congestion. These algorithms ensure fairness among competing flows and optimize the use of available bandwidth. However, since TCP is deployed within end hosts, its capacity to attain visibility of network events is constrained. This limitation arises from the closed nature of non-programmable network devices, which prevents researchers from exploring customized actions in response to network events. Recently, the emergence of …
