Preliminary Indicators Of Income/Wealth Redistribution Associated With Bureau Of Reclamation Projects, Reed Willis, Allen Lebaron, Herbert Fullerton Oct 1970

Preliminary Indicators Of Income/Wealth Redistribution Associated With Bureau Of Reclamation Projects, Reed Willis, Allen Lebaron, Herbert Fullerton

Reports

Social well-being is an accepted subset of water investment feasibility criteria. Our attempt is to isolate income redistribution impacts conferred by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation projects. Four project sites have been utilized to yield both pre and post project estimates of farm income and wealth. Production functions of the Cobb-Douglas type were estimated to yield information about factor shares, and thus enable inferences to be made about distribution of total product. Lorenz curves were developed to show changes in distribution of wealth and net income in terms of family enterprise, per acre, and per irrigated acre. Listing of individual …

Development Of Specifications For Reflex-Reflective Materials, Ronalds L. Rizenbergs Oct 1970

Development Of Specifications For Reflex-Reflective Materials, Ronalds L. Rizenbergs

Kentucky Transportation Center Research Report

Evolutionary changes in highway design, automobiles and retro-reflective products prompted Kentucky to undertake a study to update specification requirements for signing materials, delineators and coating compounds. The study was primarily concerned with geometric relationships between the driver, headlamps and traffic signs; investigation of reflectivity, color, durability and other properties of available reflective materials; adoption of testing apparatus to measure material properties; and development of test procedures.

A review of specific sign viewing conditions on the road indicated the appropriateness of reflectivity testing at 0.5-degrees and 0.2-degrees angles of divergence. These angles, however, limit examination of materials at viewing distances in …

Experimental Sand-Asphalt Surface, Robert L. Florence, Herbert F. Southgate Oct 1970

Experimental Sand-Asphalt Surface, Robert L. Florence, Herbert F. Southgate

Kentucky Transportation Center Research Report

Wearing surfaces of Kentucky rock asphalt applied in thin layers were used extensively in Kentucky for many years. Sand asphalts, which generically include rock asphalt, are now a reemergent generation of surfacings to be investigated (1,2,3). An interim report (4) related the construction and interim performance of trial surfacings in Logan County. Two bridge deck sand-asphalt surfacings have been reported (5). This report covers sand-asphalt construction and performance since 1966. Pertinent project data and comments are contained in Appendix A. The several Special Provisions are included in Appendix B.

Interest in sand-asphalt wearing surfaces issues from the skid-resistant qualities which …

State New Construction Technologies 1963, Orani Dixon, John V. Wells Sep 1970

State New Construction Technologies 1963, Orani Dixon, John V. Wells

Accounts and Data

This is a study that considers both interregional technological variations and interregional product mix variations. Product mix variations are estimated more accurately by using more disaggregated construction subindustries and by improving the accuracy of the state output totals used as weights in estimating product mix variations.

Strength Of Bolted And Welded Connections In Stainless Steel, George Winter, S. J. Errera, B. M. Tang, D. W. Popowich Aug 1970

Strength Of Bolted And Welded Connections In Stainless Steel, George Winter, S. J. Errera, B. M. Tang, D. W. Popowich

CCFSS Library (1939 - present)

INTRODUCTION In 1968 the American Iron and Steel Institute published the first edition of the "Specification for the Design of Light Gage Cold-Formed Stainless Steel Structural Members"(1)8, , based largely on research sponsored by AISI at Cornell University. (2) That Specification covers the design of members cold-formed from six common types of austenitic stainless steel in the annealed and strain flattened condition. Additional research has been underway at Cornell on austenitic Type 301 stainless steel in the 1/4 and 1/2 hard tempers, to determine the structural behavior of these higher strength materials(3), including the behavior of structural connections. The properties …

Hydrologic Inventory Of The Weber River Study Unit, Frank W. Haws, Roland W. Jeppson, A. Leon Huber Aug 1970

Hydrologic Inventory Of The Weber River Study Unit, Frank W. Haws, Roland W. Jeppson, A. Leon Huber

Reports

The 1963 Utah State Legislature authorized the Utah Water and Power Board (now the Utah Division of Water Resources) to develop a state water plan in order to give coordination and direction to the activities of all state and federal agencies concerned with Utah's water resources. To facilitate the development of this plan, a proposal was submitted through the State Planning Coordinator in the Governor's Office to the Urban Renewal Administration of the Housing and Home Finance Agency. Funding was approved effective May 19, 1966, under the Urban Planning Assistance Program authorized by Section 701 of the Housing Act of …

The 1963-64 Lake Mead Survey, J. M. Lara, J. I. Sanders, Bureau Of Reclamation Aug 1970

The 1963-64 Lake Mead Survey, J. M. Lara, J. I. Sanders, Bureau Of Reclamation

Publications (WR)

The 1963-64 Lake Mead survey was run to compute the reservoir capacity. Results of the geodetic and hydrographic surveys and sediment sampling equipment are described. The geodetic survey showed Hoover Dam subsided an average of 118 mm since 1935. Sonic sounding, photogrammetry, and crosssectional profiling methods were used to run the hydrographic survey. Reservoir area and capacity tables were generated using an electronic computer. The present lake capacity is 29,755,000 acre-ft and the reservoir surface area is 162,700 acres at elevation 1229 ft. 2,720,000 acre-ft of sediments accumulated in the lake since 1935. A unit weight of 60 Ib/cu ft …

Prediction Of Hugoniots For Soil Using The Theory Of Mixtures., Robert O. Davis Jul 1970

Prediction Of Hugoniots For Soil Using The Theory Of Mixtures., Robert O. Davis

Civil Engineering ETDs

An analytic derivation for the constitutive relation governing the response of soil to high intensity shock loading is presented. The derivation is based on the contemporary theory of mixtures. Soil is envisioned as a three component mixture (solids, water, and air) and jump equations for each of the components are derived. Mass, momentum, and energy transfer between the various components is allowed and it is assumed that the solid and water components obey a Mie-Gruneisen equation of state. A mixture Hugoniot is developed and compared with published experimental results.
