This project, which adds approximately 4,000 new beds, marks a shift from traditional construction methods to a more efficient and collaborative approach using the Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) model. This project investigates the signal strength of Wi-Fi signals through different wall assemblies under the new Wi-Fi 6E standard. The project focuses on measuring the signal strength (-dBm) at three distinct frequencies, 6 GHz, 5 GHz, and 2.4 GHz. The 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies serve as a baseline for comparison with the emerging 6E standard. Wi-Fi 6E offers much higher speeds at the cost of high signal attenuation. This study investigates the impacts of compound flooding in the Lower Fish River watershed, Baldwin County, Alabama, with a focus on the potential effects of sea level rise due to climate change. Damage caused by snow and ice to airport pavements in colder regions of the United States presents a persistent and economically significant challenge. This research explores an innovative construction method using an electrically conductive composite (ECC) composed of waterborne polyurethane and graphite powder (Gp). The ECC is applied to a Portland cement concrete substrate through a parallel stripe technique, using two types of “exposed” specimen. The study thoroughly examines the resistive heating performance of these specimens under various conditions, focusing on critical factors such as Gp concentrations in ECC, stripe thickness, spacing, and applied voltages. Dataset is an essential factor influencing the accuracy of computer vision (CV) tasks in construction. Although image synthesis methods can automatically generate substantial annotated construction data compared to manual annotation, existing challenges limited the CV task accuracy, such as geometric inconsistency. To efficiently generate high-quality data, a synthesis method of construction data was proposed utilizing Unreal Engine (UE) and PlaceNet. First, the inpainting algorithm was applied to generate pure backgrounds, followed by multi-angle foreground capture within the UE. The increasing demand for sustainable construction practices has prompted the exploration of innovative materials, such as waste plastics, to enhance both the environmental and mechanical performance of concrete, particularly for rigid pavements. This review investigates the mechanical properties of concrete incorporating four types of waste plastics—high-density polyethylene (HDPE), low-density polyethylene (LDPE), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), and polypropylene (PP). The primary focus is on how these materials affect key mechanical properties, including compressive strength, tensile strength, and flexural strength. The analysis reveals that HDPE and PP, at optimal levels (5–10%), can enhance flexural and crack resistance, making them suitable for non-structural applications. …

Mining by-products present both an environmental challenge and a resource opportunity. This review investigates their potential application in road pavement construction, focusing on materials such as fly ash, slag, sulphur, red mud, tailings, and silica fume. Drawing from laboratory and field studies, the review examines their roles across pavement layers—subgrade, base, subbase, asphalt mixtures, and rigid pavements—emphasising mechanical properties, durability, moisture resistance, and ageing performance. When properly processed or stabilised, many of these wastes meet or exceed conventional performance standards, contributing to reduced use of virgin materials and greenhouse gas emissions. Ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) is considered a highly applicable composite material due to its exceptional mechanical properties, such as high compressive strength and ductility. The heterogeneous-wet state within oil and gas reservoirs introduces complex fluid distribution and flow dynamics, which significantly impacts enhanced oil recovery and geo-sequestration of carbon dioxide and hydrogen. Capillary behavior in heterogeneous-wet reservoirs is governed by the interplay between wettability and pore geometry, which collectively dictates macroscopic imbibition processes, including forced, negative-pressure and spontaneous flow of the wetting phase. This research investigated the performance of a Tsunami T50 Vapor Compression Cycle styled Atmospheric Water Generation (AWG) machine operated under ambient conditions in Dayton, Ohio. Water yield from the device was measured volumetrically and these values are paired with respective weather data, collected from a local monitoring station, to build an Artificial Neural Network in MATLAB and JMP software. Water yield varied over the course of this study but averaged 1.2L and maxed at 5L for 4-hour operating periods. Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), widely referred to as “forever chemicals,” exhibit high environmental persistence and potential health risks due to their robust carbon-fluorine bonds. The Department of Defense (DoD) faces significant challenges in maintaining mission-critical infrastructure within highly corrosive environments, with annual costs exceeding $22.5 billion to combat corrosion. This thesis investigated the interplay between environmental severity, sustainment funding, and infrastructure performance. This research utilized Facility Sustainment, Restoration, and Modernization (FSRM) funding data, statistical analyses, and regression modeling, to evaluate how Environmental Severity Index (ESI) categories influence Base Condition Index (BCI) trends and the efficacy of the Facility Sustainment Model (FSM). The analysis revealed that installations in higher ESI categories required significantly greater investment per square foot to achieve comparable improvements in BCI. The …

Military operations to remote Arctic regions require large-span temporary shelters to house tactical aircraft and provide heated maintained spaces. However, the current System-50 Large Area Maintenance Shelters used by the United States Air Force and Department of Defense are inadequate for Arctic deployments. These shelters lack durability against extreme subzero temperatures, heavy snow accumulation, and high wind speeds.
