An Elementary Physical Education Curriculum For Jones-Jaggers Laboratory School, Joanne Powell

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

This project proposes the utilization of a movement education approach in a physical education curriculum for elementary school grades one through six. It is intended to assist elementary physical education teachers in establishing and maintaining a program based on current research and literature in the field.

The movement education philosophy differs from the traditional physical education approach in the following ways:

  1. The program is child-centered rather than subject-centered with successful experiences for each child of prime importance.

  2. Consideration of the affective domain is as necessary to the program as the psychomotor.

  3. Creativity is encouraged in that the teacher seeks new …

Human Movement Studies & Special Education Theses & Dissertations

In this paper I have undertaken the task of compiling a history of the men's intercollegiate swimming teams of Old Dominion University. Swimming has been and still is a poorly publicized varsity sport at Old Dominion University. The many hours of grueling practice the swimmers endure and the fine individual efforts put forth in the meets are seldom topics on campus or in the community. As a swimmer for four years at Old Dominion University I was always disturbed by the apathy toward intercollegiate swimming. I feel as though the swimmers past, present, and future deserve some recognition and I …

A Comparison Of The Expectations Of Four Groups For The Role Of The Physical Education Teacher., Diane Elizabeth Burton May 1973

A Comparison Of The Expectations Of Four Groups For The Role Of The Physical Education Teacher., Diane Elizabeth Burton

Health, Exercise, and Sports Sciences ETDs

Theorists have indicated that role expectations have unexplored consequences in regard to teach education. Experience and research have indicated that the public school teacher who supervises the student teaching experience may have more influence on the teaching methods of prospective teachers than do the university teacher educators. Common knowledge contends that public school teachers and teacher educators do not advocate the same teaching methods. Recent discussion about the roles of teachers and coaches indicates that differences might exist in the homogeneity of the role expectations of male and female physical education teachers. This study was undertaken to ascertain whether freshmen …
