Christmas In The Philippines, Lourdes Catherine S. Miras
Christmas In The Philippines, Lourdes Catherine S. Miras
Graduate Student Independent Studies
This is a description of Christmas traditions in the Philippines. It includes a story of a Christmas celebration in Manila today which depicts the cultural traditions of Filipinos: the native's close family ties, the Spaniard's strong Catholic influence, and the American's "white Christmas." The story is especially created for young Filipino children and for anyone who may be interested in learning about the Filipinos.

Peds Path: A Journey From Home To The Hospital And Back Home: A Game To Orient Preschool Children To The Hospital Settings, Leslie May
Graduate Student Independent Studies
With all of the cutbacks in the health care system children entering hospitals today have very few planned admissions, with an increasing large number of patients entering the hospital through the emergency room. As a result of this there are many children today who are entering the hospital with absolutely no preparation. This lack of preparation leads children to develop their own ideas and notions about just what the hospital experience will be like. These misconceptions or fears regarding illness or treatment may develop into incredible anxieties which often end up making the hospital experience much more difficult and scary …

Utilizing Applied Behavior Analysis: A Handbook For Teachers Who Are Dealing With Developmentally Delayed Children, Cleresse Sprague
Utilizing Applied Behavior Analysis: A Handbook For Teachers Who Are Dealing With Developmentally Delayed Children, Cleresse Sprague
All Graduate Projects
The author's perception is that a need exists for a classroom behavior management handbook targeting developmentally delayed children ages three years through first grade. Several occurrences have prompted this perception: 1. Approach by other teachers asking how to handle certain behaviors 2. Author's own experiences and frustrations 3. Participation in group discussions regarding behaviors The author has chosen to do this study and develop a handbook to meet this perceived need.
A Bilingual Developmentally Appropriate Preschool Program, Margarita Clara Lopez
A Bilingual Developmentally Appropriate Preschool Program, Margarita Clara Lopez
All Graduate Projects
Developmental and learning theories of the twentieth century have influenced the role of the preschool programs in public education. The debate over what is appropriate curriculum for young children is nation wide. The need to have a bilingual summer program that is appropriate to young children in the Granger School District was studied. The result was to design and develop a bilingual summer program that would fit the needs of the preschool aged children. The bilingual summer program was piloted in the Granger, Washington School District.
Burglar Bill (1979) By Allan And Janet Ahlberg, Gareth B. Matthews
Burglar Bill (1979) By Allan And Janet Ahlberg, Gareth B. Matthews
Picture Books
Burglar Bill lives alone with a house full of stolen property. Every night after supper he goes off to work, stealing things. Every dawn he comes home with his sack full of stolen goods and sits down to his breakfast of stolen toast and marmalade and stolen coffee. Some of my favorite children’s stories are written in a style I call “philosophical whimsy.” In the story of Burglar Bill, the whimsy is aimed at encouraging us to think about the life of a full-time thief as if it were an almost boringly normal sort of middleclass life. The story invites …

Evaluating Kinetic Family Drawings As A Screening Device For The Identification Of At-Risk First Graders In Public Schools, Deena M. Harral
Evaluating Kinetic Family Drawings As A Screening Device For The Identification Of At-Risk First Graders In Public Schools, Deena M. Harral
Graduate Theses
The assessment and evaluation of the Kinetic Family Drawing Instrument as a screening device was used to identify possible "at risk” first grade students in public school. It was hypothesized that the KFD would serve as a better means of identification than teacher referral alone. Seventy-five first grade students from a Chapter I school participated in the study. A check list of seven classroom behaviors was given to the teachers of the participating students to identify "at risk" behaviors in the classroom. It was found that if the teacher check list were used as the sole source of "at risk" …

The Effects Of Two Models Of Positive Feedback Of Children's Motivation, Judith Margaret Lynch
The Effects Of Two Models Of Positive Feedback Of Children's Motivation, Judith Margaret Lynch
Graduate Theses
The purpose of this investigation was to determine whether the type of written or verbal positive comment regarding a child's accomplishment influences subsequent interest in a task. A preliminary investigation of literature revealed that often rewards and praise negatively alter children's behavior. The writer tested the hypothesis derived from this investigation that non- evaluative descriptive comments, commonly called encouragement, positively affect children more than evaluative praise comments. 32 kindergarten and 36 third grade children received evaluative praise comments and 31 kindergarten and 42 third grade children received non- evaluative descriptive comments on drawings for three days. The fourth day, children …
Movement Education In A Modified Montessori Pre-School Classroom, Corinne Q. Evans
Movement Education In A Modified Montessori Pre-School Classroom, Corinne Q. Evans
Graduate Theses
A movement education program was designed to see what effect such a program would have on the motor skills of three year old children. Movement tasks and skills were introduced to the class as a whole. The rationale of this program is based on the observations of Piaget, Montessori, Gisell, and other theorists. The lessons are divided into three major areas of Body Awareness, Directionality, and Basic Body Movements. The movement education program was presented to ten (10) three year old students; while six (6) other three year old students comprised the control group. Pre-and post-tests of movement skills were …
