In order to gain some evidence as to what difference the use of some particular instructional methods would make, an experiment was carried out. The experiment reported in this study is an example of a small investigation which an in-service art teacher can make, along with his regular teaching. It compared the effects of two instructional methods or to different teacher behaviors, on the students, in teaching drawing. Two classes of students were taught drawing by the same instructor who deliberately modified the degree of "directiveness" used in his teaching. This work is concerned with volume as presented in a painting. The investigation begins with a painting of drawn geometric shapes. Each successive painting problem explores additional facets of variations from this basic problem.

There is a total of six painting problems. The general intent of these problems is to investigate the following in regard to volume of experience:

1. color contrast in hue, value, intensity, proportion and complement
2. pattern variations
3. the color phenomenon of simultaneous contrast

The medium is acrylic polymer emulsion applied with brush on stretch canvas.

A Study Of Scheduling, Staffing And Housing Procedures For A Comprehensive Elementary Instrumental Music Program In The Highline Public Schools, Gerald Clifton Bayne

This paper presents a survey of the scheduling, staffing and housing procedures for elementary instrumental music in selected large suburban school districts surrounding the City of Seattle, Washington. Upon comparison with other available studies and a similar survey of the Highline Public Schools, basic recommendations were made for the implementation of three alternate plans for a comprehensive elementary instrumental music program in the Highline Public Schools. The preferred recommended plan involves simultaneously team teaching with instrumental and vocal music specialists.

In the opinion of the investigator, the experiment reported reinforces the hypothesis that greater imagination and creative ability can be fostered in the nine-to-eleven year-old through giving primary consideration to the developmental needs of this age group when presenting a medium. Also that a systematically structured approach to the use of the medium facilitates the child's creative growth and makes progress an unavoidable issue.

It is the purpose of this study (1) to emphasize the complementary union between literature and the visual arts; (2) to limit the exploration to those specific lyrical prose writers: Hermann Hesse and Virginia Woolf; (3) to create prints utilizing the novel as a source of image-gathering but which do not retain this identity in the finished work; (4) I to experiment with the division of the plates, as well as cutouts for the effect of creating spatial illusion or imaginary space.
