This interdisciplinary thesis between the Home Economics Department and the Speech and Drama Department presents a detailed study of Eighteenth Century English costume. Stage costumes were designed and constructed for a production of Oliver Goldsmith's She Stoops to Conquer at Central Washington State College. Patterns, fabric selection, and total costs are considered for the project.

Recommendations include double listing of classes to promote continued cooperation between the two departments.

A slide-script presentation was created to be used as a stimulation device for secondary students who may wish to work in media such as painting, jewelry, batik and printmaking.

nature is the central figure. She is the heart of a spiritual union

between nature, the supernatural, and womankind. Her purpose is to

encourage faith in the forces of good, natural and supernatural, which

govern all life. She and her companions are modeled after earthly

mothers and grandmothers in honor of their grace of spirit and goodness

This study concerned 50 secondary students in a school art program in a juvenile detention institution. These students were administered a nine-item, five-choice pretest-posttest questionnaire to measure attitude changes toward art and school as a result of a varied, short term art program designed for their needs. The program was structured to be motivational and to insure success for reach individual student. Pupil attitudes toward art and school were found to be more positive in all areas.

This thesis proposes to develop a one-year sculpture program for high school art students. The intention is to present a reference and guide for those teachers interested in establishing their own sculpture program.
