Many students struggle to find creative expression within the school curriculum. Indeed, since the 1990s we have seen a rise in average IQ but a reduction in scores through the Torrance Test for Creative Thinking (TTCT) (Kim, 2011). In the course of this project several methodologies for creative problem solving will be described and several lessons will be described that will both explain and model these methodologies of creative problem solving. Research into these strategies demonstrates that creative practices allow students to manage stress and anxiety while fostering mindfulness, reflection, and self-expression. Art educators can create safe and supportive environments by incorporating therapeutic activities such as drawing mandalas, doodling, and engaging in collaborative projects. These methods prioritize the creative process over technical achievement, allowing students to communicate complex feelings that may be difficult to articulate verbally.

Embracing a qualitative, mini-case study approach, the study

details hands-on experiences collaborating with different

organizations across Providence, Rhode Island during a year-long

This unit covered concepts such as color theory, composition, and how to create the illusion of depth within a piece of art. This paper examines the impact of the performance and embodiment of Dungeons & Dragons characters on their player’s self-development and self-confidence. Since 2011, multiple studies have found that school field trips to art museums and other cultural institutions produce measurable improvements in standardized test scores, academic engagement, and substantial improvements across a range of factors including empathy, critical thinking skills, and creativity. In this qualitative, critical narrative inquiry, the professional identities, teaching philosophies and practices of three teaching artists are explored. Teaching artists carry multiple professional identities and utilize them to best navigate pedagogical potential within and across educational contexts, inside and outside schools.
