This case study examines the association between an arts education and social-emotional learning (SEL) and attempts to identify if an increased social competence positively affects behavior in the classroom. Education policies are explored as well as outcomes of SEL through art programs. Organizations promoting the SEL such as CASEL and educational plans highlighting art/SEL integration from the UChicago Consortium of School Research are studied. In this action research study, I examine different ways to re-engage students in the study of art history. This research addresses how student participation in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) project-based learning (PBL) education activities encourages underrepresented minority student achievement in STEM career field trajectories. Seven New Mexico high school counselors and 12 STEM organization personnel were interviewed during this study. Their responses represent the nuanced professional voices where New Mexico public education intersects with STEM student interest and cultural influence.

For students, STEM PBL can foster deep integration across educational disciplines and enhance STEM career trajectory interest and readiness. STEM education converged with PBL methodologies has the ability to leverage community support while broadening student networks. …

This research draws upon the work of Scott McCloud to establish a framework for the theoretical applications of the gutter. Most prior research focuses on the gutter within the page. Lola, a hand puppet, tells her story of being constructed in a university’s special topics class for the purpose of encouraging older adults who may be experiencing loneliness and isolation. Lola is introduced to an elderly woman who bonds with the puppet. Engagement with the puppet encourages positive emotions that contribute toward resilience and subjective well-being. Lola’s story supports the idea that feelings of happiness and positivity attributed to puppetry may be instrumental in memory retention and overall socio-emotional health.

This research explores a curriculum, delivered on Zoom, that blended art education with art therapy to support educators’ well-being during the COVID-19 pandemic. To understand the restorative aspects of collective artmaking and reflection, I established a series of artmaking workshops for educators via Zoom. As an artist/researcher/teacher, I made collages as an arts-based inquiry method. I found that participants needed a safe place to express, create, and share in a community of others who have similar needs, desires, and experiences, a respite from the early, terrifying days of the pandemic. In this article, I share insights from research and experience working as a teaching artist and mentor inside and outside traditional institutions. I investigate how relational and contemplative pedagogies promote and sustain authentic relationships of reciprocity. Students and their professor created a method of arts-informed research (AIR) in the practice of community-based art education to bring community members together, separated by age and distance. Essential features of this method included analyzing how local artist Elizabeth “Grandma” Layton addressed issues of ageing and mental health in her art and the direct engagement of participants in coloring her line designs. This study investigates the speaking anxiety levels of EFL students enrolled in English medium classes (EMI) in a private university. Factors causing students’ speaking anxiety and potential strategies to reduce the speaking anxiety were also examined. Eighty-nine EMI students from ten undergraduate study programs were the respondents of this study. Data were collected by using Horwitz et al.’s (1986) anxiety survey. Findings showed that EMI students exhibited low-level English-speaking anxiety. The cross-tabulation data demonstrated that students perceived comprehension apprehension as the paramount anxiety factor. However, the word lotus is also present and used in the context of Buddhism in Indonesia. Based on this fact, it is suggested to add a new meaning to the entry.
