In this respect, understanding both intangible and nonlinear dynamics is a requisite to the proper exploitation of e-commerce. The e-landscape is a new edge of chaos where order and disorder co-exist. It could be a goldmine for those who swiftly recognize structure in this highly disordered territory. IIMB Management Review

With companies today increasingly becoming networks and with the growth of outsourcing, teleworking and electronic commerce, work is being undertaken by multi-functional teams and project groups whose members are based in different places. These 'virtual' teams are held together by shared visions and values, common opportunities, and compatible goals and beliefs. While Coulson-Thomas is enthusiastic about the possibilities of the virtual organisation, he draws attention to potential pitfalls and underscores the need to think through aspects such as the stability of virtual relationships, protection of intellectual property, and the development of a common code.
