The University of Nebraska added $4.5 million in leased space at Nebraska Innovation Campus Friday, bringing its total lease commitment at the research and technology park to $7.8 million. The NU Board of Regents approved a plan adding 117,000 additional square feet of space tothe campus and moving the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Food Science and Technology Department to the campus in 2015. Nebraska Innovation Campus will open for business this summer as the first two buildings and a four-season greenhouse go online. Construction on the former State Fair Park continues as the two buildings — the former 4-H Building and new Companion Building — are scheduled to open for a June move-in. Departing from prior research analyzing the implications of social structure for actors' outcomes by applying either an ego network or a global network perspective, this study examines the implications of network communities for the invention productivity of firms. Network communities represent dense and nonoverlapping structural groups of actors in a social system. A network community lens helps identify new ways to study firms' access to diverse knowledge inputs in a dynamic system of interorganizational relationships. The early phase of diffusion plays a critical role in determining information technology (IT) success in a market. Takeoff, the transition point from the introduction to the growth phase in the IT life cycle, is viewed as an acid test for whether a technology will succeed. We develop a theory to understand global takeoff for digital wireless phones that can be extended to other technologies with related characteristics. Drawing on technology dominance and product life cycle theories, we build a model that consists of standards, market competition, technology costs, and technology substitution to explain takeoff and subsequent market penetration growth. …

Radio frequency identification technology (RFID) has allowed for tracking of individual clasts implanted with passive integrated transponder (PIT) tags through sedimentary systems, providing recovery rates much higher than older sediment tagging methods such as painted or magnetic clasts. However, preparation of natural clasts for PIT tag implantation has been time-consuming and dangerous with rates of catastrophic failure of clasts of ∼66% or more. Moreover, failure rates increase as clast size decreases. The authors present an improved methodology that provides nearly 100% success rates and allows for drilling of clasts down to 23 mm along the intermediate diameter. The gripping and …

Western Kentucky University Library had a large two-level, but largely unused lobby that had once been the library’s entrance but had been closed as a new entrance was created. By 2002, it sat empty and all but devoid of human traffic just outside our Reference area. Also, in 2002, Reference statistics were down, as was Circulation and library usage in general. Dean Binder believed that with the renovation and development of this former lobby, the library would realize an increase in campus visibility and library usage would increase.

This study presents an investigation of the relationship between internalization of ISO 9000 practices and the development of intellectual capital within organizations. We posit that intellectual capital, which comprises of human capital, organizational capital, and social capital, leads to improved processes in an organization. Process improvement, in turn, results in superior operational performance. Using a sample of 321 ISO 9001 certified organizations, the hypothesized relationships are tested by means of the structural equation modeling technique. The results of this study lend strong support for the hypotheses and show that performance benefits from the internalization of ISO 9000 standards occur mainly …

This research examines the adoption and diffusion process of Information Technology (IT) management innovations—ones that focus on the organizing logics and governance of IT activities. IT management innovations are inherently important to organizations as they can dramatically transform the way businesses are organized and operated. This case study examines a University-wide tablet program to assess the primary users’ (students) acceptance and satisfaction of the implemented technology. Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and user satisfaction research acted as the theoretical foundation that directed how to assess students’ attitudes and beliefs toward this newly adopted technology. Wixom & Todd’s (2005) Integrated Model of User Satisfaction and Technology Acceptance, served as the conceptual model to examine how students’ acceptance and satisfaction of the tablet related. Small business owners and small business managers tend to favor different information technology (IT) governance structures. Such differences can lead to ineffective management and control of IT in small businesses. The purpose of this correlational study was to examine the extent and nature of the association between owner-manager separation in small businesses and the structure of IT governance in the businesses. Agency theory formed the theoretical framework of this study. Data were collected using a web-based survey and randomly sampled 3,697 small business owners and managers located in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. This study explores the current state of innovation and high-tech entrepreneurial initiatives in Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Previous research showed that institutions’ environment, faculty empowerment, organizational trust, early stage capital, innovation centers and innovative teaching practice had a major effect to support innovation and foster tech-entrepreneurship. We present our conceptual model. The final section explains the current state of research and implications for future research are discussed.

An Extensive Analysis And Testing Of Wedding Dress Fabric, Margaret Krdu

This material analysis explores polyester satin, polyester chiffon, nylon tulle, silk organza, and silk taffeta that are utilized in the wedding gown industry today. Each of the five fabrics are extensively tested in the laboratory to determine cover factor, drape, abrasion, crocking (wet & dry), stiffness, tensile strength, and seam strength. These fabric properties are usually considered to have significant effects on the garment performance. The results from these tests are analyzed, giving a better understanding of each fabric’s individual characteristics to help dressmaking designers further their knowledge and better construct their wedding dress garments.
