The IMSA Scholarship and Innovation Committee was established in August, 2019 by Dr. José Torres based on report recommendations from Research Fellow, Dr. Page as a way to deepen a culture of scholarship, research and innovation across the IMSA community. The purpose of the committee is to create and communicate a shared vision, meaning and support for scholarship and innovation at IMSA, continuing its long tradition as a leading learning laboratory.

Motivated by Google’s technology specifications on Android devices, we consider firms’ decisions on production timing in a co-opetitive supply chain comprising a manufacturer and an original equipment manufacturer (OEM), where the manufacturer acts as the OEM’s upstream contract manufacturer and downstream competitor. We consider the market acceptance uncertainty of key product designs. If a firm decides to implement ex post production strategy (PS), it can delay the production until the market acceptance uncertainty of its product is resolved. Otherwise, ex-ante production strategy (AS) is implemented. We find that, due to the co-opetition, PS does not always benefit either the manufacturer …

Traditional CAHPS-style emergency department (ED) surveys result in excessive variability when assessing individual physician performance. The objective of this study is to measure the variability of a brief, electronic survey (e-survey). The study team also measured the association of individual physicians to demographic data, physician and patient factors, and a physician burnout assessment tool. Data from SmartContact (SmartER, La Grange, IL) is a next-day, e-survey that takes about 30-seconds to complete. Purpose: The purpose of this mixed-methods study was to identify and describe critical startup factors of high-growth technology startups as identified by women founders in Seattle, Washington.

Methodology: This mixed-method study identified and described 15 women founders of high-growth technology startups in Seattle. Participants were chosen based on specific criteria and recommendations of a sponsor and expert panel. Interviews were conducted with the participants and they completed an online survey.

Wireless networks are becoming the norm in the society, where hotspots afford users access to the internet through mobile devices. Unknown wireless networks, open public networks with unknown identity, pose threats as hackers can gain unauthorized access to users’ private information stored in their mobile devices. Despite the imminent dangers, individuals continue to use these networks. This study explicates a self-regulation theory to investigate the antecedents of deficient self-regulation (DSR) and its effects on habitual use of technology. High industry visibility, coupled with exponential social media growth, has provided the incredible potential to either widen or narrow the perception-performance gap. I recently came across a CNN article1 that discussed social media’s impact on mental health. It highlightedthe findings of a UK-based study conducted by the RoyalSociety for Public Health, and involved around 1,500 young people aged between 14 to 24 years. Entitled#StatusofMind, it reported that out of many popular social media platforms, Instagram demonstrated the most negative effects on users’ mental health, evoking in them feelings of inadequacy, anxiety, depression, loneliness, worthlessness and body image issues. Snapchat came closely behind, followed by Facebook and Twitter. YouTube, on the other hand, was found to have a positive effect on mental health.

The Olympic Games are a major undertaking that promise both large costs and potentially large benefits to host cities. This paper lays out the potential economic benefits of hosting the Olympics and details how, in the vast majority of cases, these gains are unlikely to cover the costs of hosting the event. The ideas are then applied to the experience of Boston in its ultimately unsuccessful bid for the 2024 Summer Olympics.

Modeling Green Ebusiness Adoption Among Small And Medium Tourism Enterprises In Tanzania, Juma James Masele

This study was set to model Green eBusiness adoption among SMTEs in Tanzania, right from sourcing, operations, and to end-of-life-management. The study employed the use of Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) to analyze quantitative data collected from 240 respondents selected from 80 SMTEs in Dar es Salaam, Kilimanjaro, Arusha, and Zanzibar, who were in operations for at least three years.
