Supply Chain Integration Configurations: Process Structure And Product Newness, Christos Tsinopoulos, Carlos Mena

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to explore the configurations of supply chain integration.

Design/methodology/approach – The authors use qualitative data from manufacturers shortlisted for the UK’s Manufacturing Excellence awards over three years. Detailed processes and policies of 68 manufacturers are analysed.

Findings – Process structure and product newness require different supply chain configurations, which change as products mature. Supply chain integration is dynamic, and the extent of collaboration between suppliers and customers will be different at different moments in time. The authors define and discuss four key supply chain configurations: customised; ramp-up; recurring; coordinated.

Retail purchasing groups consist of small, independent, specialised stores that join together and collaborate on purchasing and other areas. In comparison to large-scale corporate retail chains, often labelled mega-retailers, retail purchasing groups are based on collaborative external integration between a central unit and the independent, local dealers. The overall purpose of this research is to explore the specific characteristics that underscore a retail purchasing group. We develop a model to enable engineering professional services firms to improve the management of their competitive resources, i.e., skilled engineers, to be better able to respond to customer demand. The model was informed by semistructured interviews with senior executives from engineering, information technology (IT) services and technical consulting firms. As a result, we capture many of the complexities associated with the resource planning process in the professional engineering services sector. In the resulting model, the key attributes of supply, demand, and operations constraints are identified. Based on information obtained from the interviews, a number of test firms are created.We …

A different type of Executive in Residence course focuses on using multiple industry speakers to provide a unique learning environment for today’s Millennial majors. This article presents a case study of the acquisition of a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) system to replace an outdated telephone system at a Midwestern financial services company. In the Midwest retail office of ABC Financial Services, the old Private Branch Exchange (PBX) phone system was incapable of handling customer inquiries during the busy tax return season. The first part of dissertation tests whether the asymmetric price transmission exists for the unleaded gasoline price and the high speed diesel price in Thailand and then tests the hypothesis whether the government policy (the oil fund), the monopoly (the marketing margins), and the adjustment costs (the inventory) cause the price asymmetry. The study employs the monthly data of West Texas Instrument crude oil prices, unleaded gasoline prices and high speed diesel prices, the oil fund, the inventories of unleaded gasoline and high speed diesel. Supplier development (SD) has been intensively and increasingly used in practice and studied in academia. Many studies find that SD can generate operational, capability-based, attitudinal, and financial performance measures for both the supplying firm (supplier) and the buying firm (buyer), but very few studies systematically explain why SD yields supplier’s performance improvements and, in turn, buyer’s performance improvements. Using a meta-analysis approach, this dissertation finds that SD does lead to positive outcomes, but SD is found to have very weak or even negative relationship with performance improvements in some cases. We present in this paper a simulation-based approach to evaluate the risk associated with supply chain disruptions caused by failures in some supply chains nodes and measure the impact of such disruptions on supply chain key performance measures (KPIs) of interest. The proposed framework enables analysts and managers to repeatedly assess the risk to their supply chains based on various simulated scenarios and identify the most critical nodes whose disruption will have the highest impact on the KPIs of interest. Supply Chain Information Technology (SCIT) is a key enabler of effective supply chain management (SCM) activities. In 2013, $300 billion was spent on SCIT by firms globally, an increase by 1.8% and 3.8% compared to 2012 and 2011, respectively. With such significant investments, firms face risks of eroded financial performance if SCIT does not perform as expected. يهدف البحث الى يفحص العلاقة بين توزيعات الارباح والقيمة السوقية للاسهم المدرجة في سوق العراق للاوراق المالية , ومدى تأثره بالقدرة الربحية والتدفق النقدي الحر والرافعة المالية . وقد تم فحص هذه العلاقة بأستخدام تحليل الانحدار المتعدد .تكونت عينة البحث من 42 شركة مساهمة مدرجة في سوق العراق للاوراق المالية موزعة على قطاعات المصارف والمالية والخدمات والصناعية خلال الفترة 2010-2014.اظهرت نتائج البحث وجود علاقة ذات دلالة احصائية بين الارباح الموزعة والقيمة السوقية للاسهم في القطاعات عينة البحث كما بينت نتائج البحث عدم وجود اثر للرافعة المالية على العلاقة بين الارباح الموزعة والقيمة السوقية للاسهم .
