A Simulation-Based Approach To Solve A Specific Type Of Chance Constrained Optimization, Lijian Chan

We solve the chance constrained optimization with convex feasible set through approximating the chance constraint by another convex smooth function. The approximation is based on the numerical properties of the Bernstein polynomial that is capable of effectively controlling the approximation error for both function value and gradient. Thus, we adopt a first-order algorithm to reach a satisfactory solution which is expected to be optimal. When the explicit expression of joint distribution is not available, we then use Monte Carlo approach to numerically evaluate the chance constraint to obtain an optimal solution by probability. Do Competing Suppliers Maximize Profits As Theory Suggests? An Empirical Evaluation, Ehsan Elahi, Roger Blake

This research compares results from laboratory experiments with predictions from theory for decisions made by competing suppliers. We consider a supply chain in which a single buyer outsources the manufacture of a commodity product to suppliers not on the basis of price, but rather on service. Three different criteria on which suppliers compete are evaluated: 1) a guaranteed specific inventory fill-rate, 2) guaranteed level of base-stock, and 3) a parameter optimizing the supply chain in the buyer’s favor. Our results show that in most cases, suppliers’ decisions are significantly different than the Nash equilibrium, meaning that they do not maximize …

In light of the decline in social acceptance of walking and biking to school, there is a critical need to examine issues impacting school transportation decisions and to identify strategies to promote healthier behavior. In urban areas with high volume freight corridors, factors affecting school walking decisions can be complicated by increased truck and rail traffic. This paper presents findings from a study of urban neighborhoods in a major southeastern city, including those that are adjacent to freight corridors. Perceptions of neighborhood residents are compared in the context of existing infrastructure and network characteristics (urban vs. urban freight-centric). The results …

This article introduces readers to a relatively new self-assessment tool for measuring the readiness and effectiveness of supplier materials management and logistics processes in the automotive industry. The tool, the Material Management Operating Guidelines/Logistics Evaluation (MMOG/ LE), was developed by the Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG), and Odette International – a European alliance of automotive companies. The article begins with an introduction to the topic of quality and materials management assessment systems. In many industries, corporations have changed the organization of their production from a vertically integrated model to a model that is often characterized by outsourcing-shifting business activities to external parties -and offshoring, where production occurs at sites overseas. The global value chain (GVC) for an American corporation often involves several tiers of suppliers. One end of the GVC is often occupied by a multinational buyer (MNB), such as a large brand name corporation. تهدف الدراسة الى تمييز الدور الذي يمارسه التمكين النفسي في السلوك الريادي . تضمن التمكين النفسي اربعة ابعاد هي : المقدرة، المعنى، الكفاءة الذاتية والاثر. تمثلت عينة الدراسة بـ (80) تدريسي في ثلاث كليات في جامعة المثنى . اظهرت نتائج الدراسة وجود مستوى جيد من التمكين النفسي المدرك من قبل عينة الدارسة في كل الكليات المبحوثة وكانت القيمة العليا للتأثير ، المقدرة ، المعنى والاستقلالية . السلوك الريادي ايضا بلغ مستوى عالي للمتوسط الحسابي . اما اهم الاستنتاجات التي توصلت لها الدراسة هو وجود تأثير مهم للتمكين النفسي على السلوك الريادي .

تَعمَلُ المعلوماتُ المحاسبيةُ المتوفرةُ عَنْ الفرصِ في مواطنِ اتخاذ القرارات على تعزيزِ موقف متخذي القرارات الإدارية ليتمكنوا مِنْ الاستفادةِ مِنَ المعلوماتِ عَنْ الفرصِ المتوافرةِ في حالةِ تعدد طرائق التقييم وتعارض نتائجها, فعندَ إعداد الموازنات الاستثمارية مثلاً, توجد عدة طرائق لتقييم المشاريع، وإنَّ كلًّ مِنْ هذهِ الطرائق يوصل إلى نتيجة تبينَ أنَّ مشروعاً ما هو الأفضل مِنْ بينِ المشاريع الأخرى, أي إنَّ كلًّ مِنْ هذهِ الطرائق تعطي نتيجة مخالفة لنتيجة الطريقة الأخرى، وهذا ما يُعرَفُ بـ النظرية الضبابية (Fuzzy Theory), إذْ تَحصلُ الضبابية في حالةِ نقص المعلومات وعدم وضوحها ولاسيما المعلومات المالية, إذْ أنَّ هذهِ النظرية توفر أكبر استفادة ممكنة مِنَ …
