Filipino College Students' Views On The Value Of Phisical Appeal To Political Leadership, Jonalou S. Labor

The South East Asian Journal of Management

Musings of thirty-six college students from three higher educational institutions in the Manila, Philippines were used to look at the constructs of physical appeal and its power to influence leadership. By thematically analyzing the musings of the students, the research found physical appeal concepts that are associated to leadership. The study revealed that the students perceive leadership in two ways: from “within” the leader such as skills and knowledge, and from the “outside” where leadership is associated to goals, to influences, and to authority. The Impact Of Social Capital On Crowdfunding Performance, Lady Aprilia, Sigit S. Wibowo

This study aims to analyze the effects of social capital—namely structural, relational, and cognitive dimensions—on crowdfunding performance using Kitabisa.com as a case study for 2013-2015. Using robust ordinary least squares methods, we find two important results. Structural dimension, which is measured by Facebook friends owned by an entrepreneur, affects crowdfunding success. The cognitive dimension, which is measured by the number of words that are written by entrepreneurs in the platform, also affects crowdfunding opportunities in order to wage a successful campaign. With a robust recent history of reform and opening, joining of the World Trade Organization, and negotiating a myriad of regional and global trade agreements, Vietnam has emerged as a promising destination for foreign direct investment (FDI) and cross-border mergers and acquisitions (M&A). In this paper, we provide an overview of Vietnam’s inbound mergers and acquisitions and review the two main driving forces of inbound M&A, which are the legal framework reform process and the equitization of State-owned enterprises. We close by providing directions for future research in the area of cross-border M&As.

By incorporating institutional theory with the dynamic capability perspective, we investigate how emerging-market firms’ organizational capability to acquire resources through political networking with government officials complements their absorptive capacity in enhancing incremental and radical innovations. We further investigate the conditions under which the complementary effect matters. On the basis of a survey of 108 senior executives in China, we find that political networking capability complements absorptive capacity in overcoming resource constraints and organizational disadvantages in enhancing firms’ innovations, and the result is more effective in improving radical rather than incremental innovations.
