Learning-By-Doing In Non-Homogeneous Tasks: An Empirical Study Of Content Creator Performance On A Music Streaming Platform, Yang Li, Yanni Ping, Yuyun Zhong, Ram Misra

Department of Information Management and Business Analytics Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works

With the development of high-speed internet and better mobile connections, online streaming platforms with user-generated videos are becoming popular. The success of these platforms relies on content creators who can effectively enhance user engagement (e.g., subscribing to a content creator’s channel). As opposed to homogeneous production scenarios (e.g., assembling automobiles in a factory), creating user-generated videos is a more complex task in which learning might happen. In this study, we empirically test the effect of prior experience on content creators’ performance. Furthermore, we examine the role of specialization in learning. We use a dataset from NetEase Cloud Music, one of …

Time-Phasing Rdt&E In Air Force Acquisitions, Trevor A. Bills 2023 Air Force Institute of Technology

Time-Phasing Rdt&E In Air Force Acquisitions, Trevor A. Bills

Theses and Dissertations

Time-phasing describes the process of estimating expenditure profiles for multi-year RDT&E acquisition programs. The AFCAH states that one approach to producing a time-phased estimate is with the use of S-curve distributions. These S-curves are most typically modeled as Weibull, Rayleigh, or Beta distributions. Many prior studies have been completed to better understand which of the three distributions is best suited to time-phasing RDT&E programs, and what program characteristics significantly explain variance in the distributional parameters. Those prior studies utilized either contractor-supplied data or SARs, and typically found the Weibull to be the best performing distribution. This paper makes novel use …

Rethinking The "Phillips Curve" In Nigeria: Assessing The Unemployment-Inflation Nexus In A Non-Linear Framework, Oba Efayema Obukohwo, Hilda Enoh Olele

Bullion

The need to boost economic growth through policies that will simultaneously enhance employment and price stability cannot be overemphasized for a developing economy like Nigeria. This study thus seeks to ascertain the nexus between unemployment and inflation in Nigeria utilizing unemployment, and other control variables between 1980 and 2020 within a nonlinear framework, the study invalidated the inverse relationship. The study thus proposed that government should formulate and implement policies that will stimulate growth through an unemployment-inflation decelerating trajectory.

An Analysis Of Escalation Forecasting For Ppi3364, Jacob T. Smith

Theses and Dissertations

The accurate forecasting of escalation is vital to generating useful cost estimates. This research investigates various methods for their accuracy in forecasting an index, PPI3364, which measures price changes in aerospace product and parts. This is done over two different spans of time: fiscal years and FYDP (five out years). Also, this study of methods for forecasting was conducted from the perspective of the practitioner in the PPBE process. Global Insight is the current source for forecasting escalation for the aerospace products and parts industry, but there are concerns, expressed by the Air Force Cost Analysis Agency, regarding the accuracy …

The article explores the reasons behind this decline, including demographic trends and the changing landscape of dental practice. It emphasizes the importance of adapting to the evolving needs of younger dentists and non-owner practitioners while …

Aligning Dod Cost Analysis Competencies To Third Party Standards, Helga D. Leite-Evora

Theses and Dissertations

In an attempt to improve certification training programs, the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) of 2020 mandated changes to certification requirements for all acquisition related career fields directing the implementation of certification programs based on nationally or internationally accredited third-party standards (NDAA, 2019). This research focused on DoD’s Defense Acquisition University’s (DAU) Business Cost Estimating (BUS-CE) Program’s compliance with the NDAA. The study has one major research question that focuses on determining how well aligned the Defense Acquisition University’s (DAU) BUS-CE certification program’s competency model is to its relevant third-party standard, the International Cost Estimating and Analysis Association's (ICEAA) Cost …

The Effects Of International Defense Sales On Aerospace Prime Contractor Profitability, Gregory T. Sanders 2023 Air Force Institute of Technology

The Effects Of International Defense Sales On Aerospace Prime Contractor Profitability, Gregory T. Sanders

Theses and Dissertations

Faced with declining defense budgets following the end of the Cold War in the early 1990s, US defense contractors needed to explore other sources of revenue outside of typical domestic defense sales to survive. Expansion into the international defense sales market was one of the avenues pursued by defense contractors attempting to capture profits (Deutch, 2001). However, not many studies have been found assessing the relationship between international defense sales and profitability since then. This research examines the relationship between international defense sales and profitability using data collected on the top five US defense contractors from 1994-2021. Time-series analysis is …

The four types of scholarship in the Boyer framework are relevant to teaching or training at any level of post-secondary education, both directly in terms of knowledge and indirectly through the impact of enthusiasm [2,9]. This outline is a simplified introduction to the salient features of the system, with some general examples of what each type could mean in practice. The boundaries of the types are fluid and can overlap in theory and in practice [4,6].

Lumina Review Of Learning Frameworks: Tools For Building A Better Educational Experience, Tony Shannon

International Journal for Business Education

A reason for summarising this document (Travers et al, 2019) is that the Lumina Foundation in the USA is one of the few educational think-tanks which seems to be aware of the effects on the workplace from the exponentially accelerating growth in soft-computing, especially artificial intelligence, which will be seen in the next fifteen years (cf. Jankowski and Marshall. 2017).

Uk Universities Face Their Toughest Test, Andrew Jack 2023 Global Education Editor, The Financial Times

Uk Universities Face Their Toughest Test, Andrew Jack

International Journal for Business Education

The School of Oriental and African Studies seemed a symbol of stability when it celebrated its centenary in 2016 by taking over and renovating the University of London’s imposing Senate House building in central London. It was a bold move to lure the best students. But just three years later its future has become much shakier, with its undergraduate intake down 40 percent and a £7m operating deficit. “The competition is brutal,” says Professor Stephen Hopgood, Soas’s international pro-director. “We are small and specialist, and if undergraduate fees are cut, it’s going to be very hard for an institution of …

New Evidence On Employee Noncompete, No Poach, And No Hire Agreements In The Franchise Sector, Peter Norlander

School of Business: Faculty Publications and Other Works

This paper presents new evidence on anti-competitive practices in the franchise sector. Drawing from a corpus of Franchise Disclosure Documents (FDDs) filed by 3,716 franchise brands in years 2011- 2023 (partial), I report new information on franchise brands’ use of inter-firm non-solicitation (“no poach”) clauses barring recruitment between firms, no hire clauses barring employment, and franchisor requirements that franchisees use employee non-compete clauses barring workers from joining competitors. Regulatory actions that restricted the enforceability of anti-competitive clauses began to appear in FDDs in 2018. While non-solicitation and no hire clauses have declined in use, the use of non-competes remained stable …
