Teaching American adolescents in public schools presents a unique challenge: how to foster an instructional environment that simultaneously encourages intrinsic desires for lifelong learning, allows for the development of self-determination and autonomy, and teaches students appropriate academic skills. It was hypothesized that relying mainly on extrinsic motivations would be associated with more problematic outcomes for students while relying mainly on intrinsic motivations would be associated with more desirable outcomes. Research often examines some of these potential effects, such as how giftedness impacts performance in school or attitude regarding academics. Decades after the landmark United States Supreme Court decision of Brown v. The Board of Education of Topeka in 1954, the push continues to make schools a safe and welcoming environment for Black and Brown students. Black students in particular are continuing to be oppressed and marginalized in PK-12 educational settings. This poster aimed to describe part of a doctoral dissertation research study that comprehensively investigated school psychologists’ record review practices. Record reviews are a crucial part of the psychoeducational evaluation process (i.e., RIOT method), and there is relatively little previous research literature on this topic. This poster describes the following results: when record reviews are conducted, the amount of time is spent on each part of the RIOT method for initial and reevaluations, and record review approaches. This study will encompass K-12 academic institutions in the state of Kentucky during the 2018-2019 academic school year, with an in-depth analysis of data submitted to the Kentucky Department of Education by the 171 participating school districts. For those with feelings of social anxiety, university can present unique challenges. Socially anxious students can face functional impairments such as interpersonal and academic deficits, as well as social maladjustment due to a shift in their social networks. Despite this, there is surprisingly little research exploring their experiences at university using qualitative designs. The present study set out to explore how a small sample of undergraduate students experienced feeling socially anxious at university. Despite evidence demonstrating that mentoring may be an effective intervention for neurotypical students, there is limited literature investigating the impact of mentoring on outcomes for those with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Using a comprehensive review of the available literature, the present specialist project provides a summary of available mentoring literature which implemented mentoring programs with students on the autism spectrum. After eliminating irrelevant literature from an initial search, a small sample of relevant articles were reviewed (N = 8). Writing is an essential skill for students to have now and later in life. Many students’ writing skills are not proficient for their grade level due to writing being overshadowed by other core academic subjects/areas. Written Expression Curriculum-Based Measurement (WE-CBM) is used to identify those at-risk for poor writing performance, as well as to monitor students’ progress towards reaching an academic goal. This study examined how student performance changed from fall to winter on typed and written responses using WE-CBM. Classroom management strategies are used to create effective learning environments by reducing problem behavior. When classroom management strategies are not being implemented correctly it can create negative outcomes for teachers and students. By providing antecedent and/or consequence-based procedures treatment integrity can be improved. The purpose of this review was to examine literature on the effectiveness of antecedent, consequence, and combined procedures on teacher treatment integrity of classroom management strategies. Results indicate a significant increase on teacher adherence to classroom management interventions when a treatment integrity procedure is implemented as well. Limitations and future directions are discussed.

The purpose of the current study was to examine Native American children and caregivers' perspectives of family and cultural strengths using photovoice and to identify lessons learned from the first‐ever implementation of intergenerational photovoice with Native Americans. Participants were Native American, low‐income caregivers (n = 6) and their children (n = 12) between the ages of 10 and 15 who participated in six photovoice sessions. The themes that emerged from photos and group discussion included myriad challenges faced by Native American families including exposure to community violence, substance abuse, and criminal offending and incarceration. Two thirds of children experience some form of a traumatic event by the age of 16 (Cavanaugh, 2016).
