Parenting is a demanding and stressful responsibility that leads to increased feelings of stress, anxiety, and depression among caregivers, which research has found to be significantly related to social incompetence and behavioral problems in children during early childhood. However, certain parenting practices such as parental emotion regulation, mindful parenting, and parental reflective functioning have been found to support children’s socioemotional development, and in particular emotion regulation. However, similar regulations for alcohol alternative beverages are less explored, which could allow alcohol alternative products to create awareness for alcoholic beverages among youth. Given the prevalence of screentime, its impact on child development has become a question of key concern for researchers, practitioners, and policymakers, as well as parents. Recent attention has focused specifically on the potential negative effects of screentime on young children’s development of self-regulatory capacities. These negative effects of screentime could be particularly detrimental for children in poverty, who face stressors and forms of environmental adversity that can compromise self-regulatory development. Functional Family Therapy (FFT) is a family-based treatment program for youth with externalizing behavior problems, often involved in juvenile justice and child welfare systems. FFT is an evidence-based program and has been implemented across many states, including the state of Virginia. Objective. The present study performed a program evaluation and observational study of the implementation and sustainment of FFT in Virginia, during the first five years of implementation. Method. This paper was written to bring awareness of how the legal system does not take into consideration those who suffer from substance use disorder, as well as ACEs. Brian Luke Burijon’s battle with addiction while incarcerated was used as an example of how the legal system’s one-size-fits-all approach is flawed. Mr. Burijon opted for a treatment he did not feel was ideal for him because the alternative was to remain incarcerated for a long period. Mr. Burijon was unable to tolerate the treatment at the facility and left early, which resulted in his overdose death.

Self-control has emerged as a key probabilistic construct in understanding adjustment, well-being, and life success. The present study tests the links between adolescent perceptions of maternal and paternal conflict and self-control. Teachers have difficulty delivering Tier-2 intervention programs for preschoolers at elevated risk for socioemotional and behavioral disorders with high intervention fidelity (Durlak, 2010; Sutherland et al., 2018). Several proximal factors that impact program fidelity have been identified, which may undermine program effects (Domitrovich et al., 2008; McLeod et al., 2022; Sutherland et al., 2018).
