Nonsyndromic hearing loss (NSHL) is a genetically diverse, highly heterogeneous condition characterised by deafness, and Gasdermin E (GSDME) variants have been identified as directly inducing autosomal dominant NSHL. While many NSHL cases associated with GSDME involve the skipping of exon 8, there is another, less understood pathogenic insertion variant specifically found in Chinese pedigrees that causes deafness, known as autosomal dominant 5 (DFNA5) hearing loss. Flat epithelium (FE) is a condition characterized by the loss of both hair cells (HCs) and supporting cells and the transformation of the organ of Corti into a simple flat or cuboidal epithelium, which can occur after severe cochlear insults. The transcription factors Gfi1, Atoh1, Pou4f3, and Six1 (GAPS) play key roles in HC differentiation and survival in normal ears. This study aimed to explore pediatric dentists' perspectives on obesity-related interventions for parents of young children. A web-based survey was administered to 210 American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry members. Findings revealed that respondents considered it important for various healthcare professionals, especially pediatricians and nurse practitioners, to engage in obesity-related parent education. Strong consensus existed on educating parents about the link between early childhood caries and diet, soft drink and fruit juice consumption, and healthy snacking. The study also found positive attitudes correlated with increased engagement in objective weight determination, data collection, and diet/nutrition counseling.

Women of reproductive age (WRA), females 15 to 49, are at an increased risk of ID and anemia. This pilot study examines the beliefs and preferences regarding fiber use in enteral nutrition (EN) among physicians and registered dietitians (RDs) for hemodynamically stable critically ill patients. A total of 30 RDs and 12 physicians participated. The majority of both physicians (80%) and RDs (83%) supported fiber use in EN for these patients. All participants with over ten years of experience and all Certified Nutrition Support Clinicians (CNSCs) endorsed fiber use. Despite expectations, no significant difference in support was found between RDs and physicians. Introduction: This study aimed to investigate the association between early childhood feeding practices and picky eating behaviors in children aged 5-10 years.

Methods: Forty-three parents or legal guardians of children aged 5-10 completed the Child Feeding Questionnaires (CFQ) and the Children’s Eating Behavior Questionnaire (CEBQ) to assess parental control in child feeding and child eating behaviors, respectively. Logistic regression was used to analyze the relationship between the exposure and outcome variables.

Results: Infants fed store-bought food didn't differ significantly in picky eating from those fed self-made food, challenging conventional assumptions. Additionally, while socioeconomic status and parental education didn't show significant …

This study investigated the impact of combining Intuitive Eating (IE) principles with magnesium glycinate supplementation on adults aged 18 to 49. Participants were split into two groups: one practicing IE alone and another receiving magnesium supplementation alongside IE. Results showed significant improvements in body satisfaction, stress levels, and overall health among those receiving magnesium. Qualitative data indicated enhanced body awareness and well-being with IE. This suggests a promising synergy between IE and magnesium supplementation for better health and quality of life. However, further research with larger samples and longer durations is warranted.

Introduction: This study aimed to investigate the influence of hydration status on hand grip strength in a sample of the general population.

Methods: Fourteen participants (4 males and 10 females) aged 18 and older, were recruited from the Loma Linda University area. Participants underwent multiple clinic visits, where they were randomly assigned to either optimal or suboptimal hydration conditions. Measurements included hand grip strength using a dynamometer, extracellular water ratio via bioimpedance analysis, and urine specific gravity.

Introduction

Growing interest centers on the association between circulating ketone bodies (KB) and cognitive function, notably in aging and neurodegenerative diseases.

Methods

Associations of plasma KB with incident dementia and cognitive performances were examined among Multi‐Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA) participants. KB were measured using plasma samples collected following an overnight fasting at Exam 1 (2000–02) and detailed cognitive testing at Exam 5 (2010–2012, N = 4392), Exam 6 (2016–2018, N = 1838), and in MESA‐MIND (2019–2021, N = 2060).

BACKGROUND: An increasing body of evidence suggests that neuroinflammation is one of the key drivers of late-onset Alzheimer's disease (LOAD) pathology. Due to the increased permeability of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) in older adults, peripheral plasma proteins can infiltrate the central nervous system (CNS) and drive neuroinflammation through interactions with neurons and glial cells. Because these inflammatory factors are heritable, a greater understanding of their genetic relationship with LOAD could identify new biomarkers that contribute to LOAD pathology or offer protection against it.
